Sorry to hear that mate.

Given the availability of managers currently I think it’s a relatively sensible appointment. If he gets us up he gets a shot at a more longer term gig and if he flunks, well we say goodbye. He’ll have a job getting this mediocre squad Flitcroft has put together up with our best defenders out injured but I wish him luck!

Presumably his ‘style’ of football is dour and organised?

Get me Raybans out.

Very little any new man can do in my opinion. So many long term injuries and generally shite players thanks to Shitcroft. And his inability to sign a decent keeper at every club he’s been at.

Went through 12, I believe, at Bury.

Nothing wrong with this appointment.
I'll start with the good at Southend. Good with blooding young players into the team and encouraging youth players into the first 11. When he got his best 11 out on the pitch his tactics and style of football were very good. When the team clicked it was excellent, last season after Christmas the run to nearly getting into the playoffs was superb, the football easy on the eye and the tactics spot on.

The bad. If there was a player aged over 32 and once played in the Premier division then Phil would try to sign them, didn't matter if they turned up crocked, I think Phil bypassed the medicals for these 'stars'.
When he couldn't get the best 11 onto the field and form took a turn for the worse he more often than not decided to play horrible hoofball and set up 4-5-1 in an effort to bore the opposition into giving us the points. It rarely worked and as soon as he finally switched back to 4-4-2/4-3-3 the team looked instantaneously better.
I saw somewhere else someone say he isn't easy to like - I would agree, he was far from a bad manager for Southend but nobody misses him. Took time out to link himself to every job going, especially ones in the North East or linking up with Big Sam. His literal sprint to the local press when Sam was made England manager to publically ask for a role on his coaching team was embarrassing.

An aside to this appointment. I'd be interested to know what is happening with his shares in Southend United. His last contract was incentive led and included him getting lots of shares in the club and the potential for his investment into the new stadium plans (should that ever happen). I don't know if someone bought them back off him when he was sacked, but is there a conflict of interest should Swindon be promoted and he ends up managing against a team he has a stake in.

Word has it that Flitcroft bottled it with the injuries we’ve got. He knew he’d be out on his arse at season’s end.

Charmless nerk

If that's the case then you can have Michael tongue and Danny Pugh of us or have you got enough ex vale players now.
