Good blog JJH (although it's Graham Potter, not Darren haha)

Just a few personal predictions rather than do a whole table.

  • West Brom to finish in the bottom half.
  • Brentford to be the play off gatecrashers.
  • Reading and QPR to be in real relegation trouble.
  • Rotherham to escape relegation (I like Paul Warne)
I'm sure most of them will crash and burn.

Top 8 no order, Middlesbrough, Preston, Brentford, Nottm Forest, Derby, Stoke, West Brom, Leeds
Middle 8 no order, Bristol City, Swansea, Sheff Utd, Sheff Wed, Villa, Norwich, Millwall, Blackburn
Bottom 8 no order, Bolton, Rotherham, Wigan, Reading, QPR, Birmingham, Hull, Ipswich

I think we will finish about 13th (higher if only we had improved CM) but looking at it there is absolutely nothing to worry about this season. Stoke and Boro look good on paper but they'll be dull and won't trounce the division. Doubt Forest will match Wolves or anything close. Bielsa will probably turn out shit. Derby West Brom rookie managers. I think it's a year for those teams building over a number of seasons- Preston and Brentford.

Relegation Fears: Bolton, Rotherham, Bristol City, Wigan, Reading

A handful of predictions. Low confidence, as we all should be, it's the Championship, after all.

We'll take a few games to get going but we'll get promoted.

Woods is a cracking signing in fairness, about as good a central midfielder as any at this level.

Think this looks accurate. Of the also-rans of last season, think Brentford will make the play-offs. Sheffield United will challenge again too imo

Seems for the moment the bid has been rejected.

Yeah I think Sheffield United will run it close as I said, made some smart signings.

Not saying you're wrong tipping the Millers to finish bottom, it's obviously going to be tough for us. However you are wrong in saying we relied heavily on Kiefer Moore. We were 16th when he made his last league start for us, he did start in the 1st round of the cup though and we lost to Crewe.

Don't think you can look past Stoke and West Brom for autos.

Derby, Forest, Blades, Middlesbro in play-offs.

Relegation battle. Millers, Reading, Hull, Bolton, QPR, and Swansea.

Surprise teams Brentford and Birmingham.

Unknown quantity. Wednesday, got a starting 11 that could easily make the playoffs but no back up, so a few injuries could leave them on the brink.

Again very highly - he started the season superbly under Warburton but didn't get much of a chance under Karanka. I wanted us to sign him when he was at Rangers he's a good player.

For me it's a madness the general consensus of this summer window so far was Stoke good, Swansea bad.

Stoke have appointed a bum manager and with the exception of Etebo & perhaps Afobe, their signings are names who've already met their peak & proven not to be good enough for the PL and opted for Stoke on the basis it's their next best payday. That is not how you get promoted out of this division. You get success firstly by appointing a legit manager like Potter and then signing yet to be realised talents who are chomping at the bit to prove themselves.

Ince & McClean - combined age = 55. combined cost = 17m.
Celina & McVey - combined age = 44 . combined cost = 4m.

IMO, Ince and McClean are much better bets if your aim is to go up this season. Celina and McKay are potentially better bets if you are buying into potential and long term growth, and don't have the budget for the bigger guys.

Ince, like Afobe, has been there, done it before with this league. If your aim is promotion, those are the guys you buy, not Celina or McKay.

Ince & McClean are bums. Celina & McKay will score & assist many more goals.

I do agree that McClean is pretty shit. But Ince is quality and has shown it in this league many times before. Easily far better than either Celina or McKay.

Nah, Ince is gash also. We had Scott Sinclair in this division and whilst he's nothing special he easily outscored & out-assisted Ince's best season at this level. At 26 & being English if Ince was any good he'd be at a good team - he isn't because he's a bum.

Never seen Ince play well tbh.

Can't wait for us to beat Swansea on Saturday though.

Not being a dick but I've looked up our fixtures for as far as October and I think we can win every single game.

What's the record for most games won in a row from the opening game?

You're finishing outside the top 10 though.

How is that going to work, exactly?

Brentford will win the league in my opinion. Just wish I got around to saying it a week ago.

Brentford will do well but I wouldn't read too much into the 5-1 game. Rotherham are a truly awful side, and will once again be this years whipping boys. Shows how bad L1 must have been last year if they were promoted.
