Not a fan of it (Although I haven't heard much uproar from Salford about it - have you?).

To suggest because they've changed kit colours (when most clubs have) they are less deserving of being in the football league than Accrington, even though they'll secure much more fans is a bit strange. They've been around for longer than them and have better attendances. So I'm all for them coming in and Accrington getting back to back relegations.

Although - I would rather Hartpool, orient, chesterfield etc all were promoted over Salford. But if it was a straight swap, I'd take Salford over Acc all day long.
the difference is that Accrington have a history, although not a glorious one, whereas Salford are just another vanity project with no long term sustainability. Once FFP hits them they will struggle as they have no fan base to exploit.

I hate Man U and anything associated with them so I've got no time for Salford who are basically FCUM MKII. So it's only logical that I pray and hope they screw it up and fail to go up, this season and next season and the one after that ad infinitum. But this Salford dilemma isn't really as black and white as some like to think.

All clubs have thrown money at it to get promoted one time or the other. They' re only doing what loads of other clubs have already successfully done before them inc. Hull, Bournemouth, Swansea to name a few. And what's more, people say said clubs are 'proper' clubs. Christ I really do hate this proper club thingy. What makes a club proper and another one not? Founding date? How well supported the club is? Were a FL side back in 1987?

But I digress.

I thought it was going to be the same story when we had two sent off on the first day, but then last night was the first one since then. Unfortunately Tom James was also sent off in the first game so he will get a four match ban now. We'll definitely appeal though.

I see that Yeovil decided against appealing in the end...

Yeah, Way says he couldn't take the risk of it being unsuccessful and the four game ban being extended. To lose our best player for 4 games is a killer but 5 or 6 would be a massive blow to our hopes of staying up.

He hasn't appealed it because he knows it should've been a red.

Did the site go down again on Thursday? I'm pretty sure I checked it then (can't remember what time of day) and every day since Friday, with the exception of Wednesday, with no luck. No wonder I had so many posts to catch up on, much to my surprise.

Anyway, decent and unexpected point for Notts last week, but the next two fixtures are hardly the most ideal for building on that result. Still the form book goes out of the window during this late stage of the season, and one thing in their favour is that in League 2 everyone has a chance of beating everyone, whereas a team in a similar situation in the Premier League would have basically no hope.

Personally I think fans are the key criteria, and lack of them the thing that sets Salford apart from the likes of Stanley, Crawley and FGR.

You can always argue that a small club getting into the football league is good because it will bring their fans joy. Doesn't matter if there aren't many because it's what football's all about. Take the fans away though and it just becomes meaningless, because usually when we talk about it being good to see Stanley doing well we're thinking of their fans. No fans, no point.

And that's what Salford are. No fans, them getting promoted will bring nobody joy... Apart from maybe Paul Scholes. They get decent attendances, but ManU fans on a jolly don't count because they don't really care about Salford, and there really don't seem to be any genuine Salford fans in existence anywhere because before the class of 92 got involved they were just a one man and his dog type crowd and that man and his dog are no longer interested now it's just a mini Man U. Why bother investing yourself emotionally in a club that are trying to be Man U when you can have the real thing?

Time for an update, first in 2 weeks for various reasons.

29 - Morecambe(31)
-----------------------------------------------------
28 - Macclesfield(32)
27 -
26 -
25 - Notts County(31)

Forthcoming fixtures:

17th - Crawley(32) - 37 points. Northampton(A), Macclesfield(H), MK Dons(A), Grimsby(H), Mansfield(H)
18th - Cambridge(31) - 35 points. Tranmere(H), Cheltenham(A), Yeovil(A), Grimsby(A), Oldham(H)
19th - Cheltenham(31) - 35 points. Grimsby(A), Cambridge(H), Port Vale(H), Mansfield(A), Bury(H)
20th - Port Vale(31) - 33 points. Morecambe(H), Tranmere(H), Cheltenham(A), Notts County(A), Mansfield(A)
21st - Yeovil(31) - 30 points. Oldham(A), Forest Green(A), Cambridge(H), Morecambe(H), Lincoln(A)
22nd Morecambe(31) - 29 points. Port Vale(A), Oldham(A), Lincoln(H), Yeovil(A), Forest Green(H)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
23rd Macclesfield(32) - 28 points. Colchester(H), Crawley(A), Bury(A), MK Dons(H), Exeter(H)
24th Notts County(31) - 25 points. Mansfield(H), Newport(H), Tranmere(A), Port Vale(H), Cheltenham(A)

So, working our way from bottom to top of this relegation dog pile, every year people think the team that gets cut adrift at the bottom are gone, but then a sudden burst of form puts them right back in it.

Thats Notts County, with 4 points from 2 games against Lincoln and FGR. A win against Mansfield and then they are right behind Morecambe and Yeovil. Got the quality to stay up, can see them doing it based on their recent form. Macclesfield got a draw against Crewe, but dropping points like that at home won't keep them up, especially with their next run of games, most of which are against promotion chasers.

Morecambe lost to Bury, no disgrace, but they can't keep losing at home. Massive game for them at Port Vale next week. Yeovil keep losing, but no end in sight for Way. Crazy how their owners can't see the wood for the trees there and are apparently letting him drag them towards the conference possibly. 2 huge home games coming up for them in the next few weeks.

The Vale can't buy a goal and have the worst goals scored record. But hey, I'm sure that push for mid-table will start any day now. Very close to a must win game for them against Morecambe next Saturday. Cheltenham seem to be relying on their home form, only 1 defeat from their last 8 on their own patch. Get something at Grimsby and their next 2 home games look winnable.

Cambridge also are leaning on their home results. They'll need to improve that away record with 3 straight road games coming up. And finally we have a new entry in Crawley. They are falling like a stone and when your chairman is releasing massive statements, things clearly aren't all that well off the pitch either. I doubt they will go down, but they could face some tricky fixtures in April if they aren't careful.

Huge game next week for us. Beat Morecambe then we can breath a little better as we will be 7 clear minimum.

Need to start scoring and expect us to set up more positive at Vale Park in the next two games which look very winnable.

Our January signings have made a huge difference, along with Boldewijn being fit again. We’re a completely different team to the one that lost at Yeovil three weeks ago, it’s just whether we’ve given ourselves too much to do.

We cannot stay up the way we are playing. Another shit result today and the manager won't do anything.

Is Darren Way ever going to get sacked?

He's shit!

Really prefer you lot not to go down.

We've a mountain to climb but we have had a really good transfer window and at last seem to be playing like a team that gives a shit. Combine the new signings and the virtual banishment of the collective disgrace that was our first team until a fortnight ago and it's effectively a new team built on the fly.
We have to shrink that gap and just get back into the mix in good time to ease the pressure.

Cheers but no he won't ever - and I mean ever - get the sack while our current board are in charge.

Matt Worthington, who we signed a couple of weeks ago, went ballistic when he was subbed today and gave Darren Way a piece of his mind as he walked off. Gave the tunnel a huge whack with his boot as well. Probably broke it lol. That's him out of the team forever.

Apparently Ryan Seager has also fallen out with Way. We signed him a couple of weeks ago, he's a Yeovil lad and I don't reckon he'll play again. Way said when that he was giving him a second chance by signing him. FFS.

With 3 players out for the next game and 2 more ostracised we're in even more doodoo than we were before.

I just can’t see there being 2 worse sides than us.
Changing the manager will do nothing, there is no quality in that team.
None.

You'll have enough to stay up, especially if you can keep Pope fit. You didn't play too bad yesterday and on another day could have nicked a point. I've seen far worse at the Abbey this season. Yeovil easily the worst I've seen.

No way will Notts go down based on yesterday. Far too much quality. Can see them going on a run. They'll be out of the bottom 2 in 3 or 4 games and won't drop back imo.

Currently would say Yeovil and Macc most likely to drop although I hope Yeovil don't.

What a nice man, the key is no collective injuries then I agree entirely with your view. got a feeling Yeovil and Morecombe

Hopefully we will but right now I’m struggling to see where the next goal is coming from for Vale. Opposition teams look so comfortable against us as soon as they score once it’s game over. Worst thing is we’ve had the whole of January to address it and once again failed miserably in this window.

Chris, thanks for the kind words alas we are unfortunately playing high flying MTFC next up who we never beat! So defeat there but then hopefully with a run of kinder looking games afterwards we can at least get back involved in the mix instead of being adrift and looking dead certs.

Very early days but looks promising

Behave yourself,

If it had not been for your Cup Tie against The Mancs you'd still be in the Conference hell-hole

With goal difference still 5 points adrift of safety and a huge 8 behind clubs who are panicking !!! That is a sobering league table for me and my fellow pies after yesterday’s great result and performance
