Well that’s just fucking silly isn’t it SMH.

I’ve only attended one FA Cup final and it was your win against City. The things I took away from that game were: Aguero was class but couldn’t score, Gareth Barry is done at elite teams and Callum McManaman absolutely tore City a new arsehole.

I can’t remember much else bar a ginger bagging the winner from a corner and singing you are my sunshine but you could see Aguero was class in person that day. The fact you did a job on them doesn’t mean we can ignore their quality, despite a lot of it not shining through on the day.

I can hack Tom Ince, Richard Keogh etc but not Sergio. You could half pay attention to any MOTD and see his quality.
Not for me. Didn’t get a sniff on goal all game. Tevez was City’s most dangerous player by a country mile and would have scored if not for Joel’s miracle save. Mancini subbing him off after an hour was madness and a key contributor to us winning. Maybe you mistook Sergio for him?

Think you’ve taken the ot a bit too seriously pal, I never said Aguero wasn’t class, I said I haven’t see him play well against Latics.

The notion that Aguero is overrated was always silly and it looks even sillier after the past few matches.

That's not the point of the thread.

It's players who are highly rated but have never impressed you in a live game.

SMH acknowledged that Aguero is class.

In defence of Keogh, I think he has been in the running for our POTY every season he's been at the club, winning it two or three times in the process. I'd say he's got my vote this season too, especially when you consider that he's been carrying the defence for the most part this season. Tomori and Bogle have finally starting growing with game time, so the workload for him is easing up ever so slightly.

I can't think of any defender in the division that has been as consistent over the past decade, especially considering he won both Coventry's POTY awards during his two seasons there too. Not to mention that since he joined us we haven't finished outside the top 10 and usually are in the top 6 teams with regards to goals conceded. He's had a very good career at this level, but a duff clearance in the playoffs has been the hallmark of his success.

If Richard Keogh is so good and all why has he a) never played in the top-flight, and b) is still playing for Derby, a team who have bottled promotion year on year for pretty much the past decade.

Why are they the markers for being a good player in this league?

He's a Championship player, playing to a Championship level for a Championship team. Consistently he's good for this level, you see it as a team bottling promotion every year where on the other hand we've not finished in the bottom half since he's been at the club. He might not be good enough for that next step up but he's decent down here.

There's an absolute clanger in him for sure but show me a defender that's squeaky clean in this league.

In order to 'bottle' promotion you have to be in the right area of the table though? I wouldn't, for example, say Ipswich or Reading have bottled promotion this season because they're in the relegation zone.

I'm not even saying that he would have been a good level Premier League defender, but he's spent 10 years at this level barely missing a game and consistently getting his name in the running for the POTY awards, winning it four years out of 10. He's a very good player at this level who doesn't seem to get the credit he deserves outside of the managers that select him.
