North Ferriby United football club was wound-up at a court hearing this morning. Consequently 85 years of history has ended.

We would like to thank every single player that has played for our fantastic club, with every manager who has led us to success. From playing in counties leagues, to treble winning seasons, to playing in the Pinnacle of Non-League Football. And of course, THAT day at Wembley.

Whatever you do now, we will only say one thing. Carry on supporting Non-League football. It is the best in the whole world. But for now, that’s it. See you all soon.

There were some great memories made by North Ferriby United a few years ago, seeing that FA Trophy win, that promotion to the National League, even their first win in the league against Torquay, the joy the club brought, 85 years of history over for an £8k debt

Sad to see this - remember them winning the trophy (think Wrexham sacked their manager the day after?)

Very sad news. One of my favourite away days when we went there in April 2017. Won 3-0 which coupled with Dover losing virtually sealed our playoff place. After the game their fans shook hands with our fans and wished us all the best for the playoffs.

One of the friendliest clubs I have visited, shame to see them going under this way, for such a relatively small amount of money in the football world

Liquidated over a £7k debt. Were the fans made aware? This could surely have been crowdfunded if so, including from other clubs. Really sad news.

Always a shame when a football club folds completely, more so for the supporters who may have been going for decades.

Shocking, if the bbc had bothered themselves and covered this im sure we could have banded together and saved them ... we did it for widnes rlfc a few weeks ago and they needed 300k. Sadly the bbc think plucky little salford are the countrys only non league club

Such sad news and all seems so avoidable if the figures are accurate

For me it’s hard to feel sorry for them as it was a pipe dream always destined to end this way.

Teams like NFU, gulden, Salford and co have badly inflated the conf north wages to stupid levels.
When you play next to an allotment in a residential cul-de-sac, you need to remember that. Guiseley hot on their heels. :£

Probably the most famous picture ever taken at their ground, following yer man's wondrous goal there in 2011.

Like everyone else sad to see them go, but I suppose they were a victim of their own success. If they'd not had all those (assisted) promotions they'd probably still be plodding along at step 4. The only team we've got a 100% record against.

I remember they played what looked like a 12 yr old at full back, against Jamie Vardy and Lee Gregory when we went there- he lasted about 20 minutes before the boss thought better of it. :fl:

How kind of you to be so sympathetic. A tin-pot club, in a tin-pot league....just like you

You've been whooshed anyway but why weren't their 'fans' asking questions when they were suddenly in the Conference on 300 crowds? Why weren't they asking then how sustainable it all was and whether they'd have a club in 5 years? I'd want to know what the plan actually was.

If they can't afford £7k then I'm sure the club isn't as important to the area as everyone on here is making out. Funny how this Non-League giant doesn't have a single fan on here isn't it.

They might have some genuine supporters but sorry, got no time for clubs like this where fans are happy while on the ride but then get everyone to feel sorry for them when it's over and they've done nothing to save it (it's usually tinpotters who feel sorry for tinpotters). See Gretna.

And talk of other clubs fundraising to help save them? What the fuck? I didn't agree with that when we were shaking buckets around to help Chester in their latest crisis and I don't now.

I wouldn't have bothered if you hadn't collected for us. We exceeded the target by over £100k, but not all Wrexham fans are as bitter as you mate.

Loved visiting that ground, lots of character and proper non league ground.
Surprised they have gone under ,thought the post office in Ferriby made that much money from Lincoln fans queuing to keep them going for a decade.

Shame a very friendly club with very little support to raise £7k in unpaid debts. All is not lost Les Hare the former club chairman is heading up a bid to create a phoenix club, gathering a consortium to create new North Ferriby community club who won't start at the bottom.

Raising the 7/8k wasn't the issue but the owners and lack of working capital means that had the fans raised/paid it they were just bailing out the folks killing the club.

Would it be enforceable to have a rule in the National League, that at the start of every season clubs have to submit plans proving they will be living within gate receipts and advertising income?

NFU were not in the National League at all this season!

But their current plight is linked to last membership. And no reason it couldn't apply to leagues below.

That may not have been the full level of debts, though. The £7k is just the figure that took them to court from one company.

Didn't they try and get some sort of wage cap in a few years back but some Chairman voted against it (Fenty at Grimsby was one, I think).

Hardly a surprise it's gone this way. They were paying City wages on a Village team, with no prospect of any growth.

True. If they are reformed at Step 5 that should be more sustainable for them.

That’s the dream. Will never happen though.

Utterly barmy considering when we visited in the league back in 2011, the income from that one game would've made all the difference on a £7.6k debt.

They were destined to plummet once the money ran out, but it's quite the tale when their derby with Lincoln City two years ago turns into 68 places down the non-league ladder last week, and bust this week.

I'm afraid though, that it's the other side to the laissez-faire coin of the FA that allowed them, along with Rushden and so many others in the past, to prosper right until the money goes, and it always does. There are teams like Crawley and Solihull who represent big enough areas to cope OK at a higher level after the initial boost, but places crowded out with competition such as Hyde or Leigh, and villages like North Furby or Wesham, will live that way on borrowed time.

For what it's worth, credit to the Furby faithful who have stuck with them to the end, and to the club for giving us Heath, Carroll, Denton, Nicholson, King, Clarke, Hone etc without whom we may have gone nowhere ourselves in 2016.

We won ugly every week that season but Heath was brought in for ONE job- get us back up. The fans never gave him the credit he deserved, and still does, for that very difficult achievement. Did I say difficult? Well let's have a look- Stockport currently in year 6 down there, Kidderminster in year 3, York in year 2 and likely 3, Darlington in year 3 and certainly 4, Hereford will be there for at least a 2nd yr, Chester too, possibly. He said getting Halifax up had been harder than getting Ferriby up too, given that he was starting from scratch with 4 players.

That sounds familiar. Heath doesnt know how to win with some flair as any players with a bit of trickery or flair are just cast out in to the wildness
