Anyway Bailey down the left, Sterling right, Kane middle. Harry sandwiched between Jam!

It looks like they have British passports but were not born in the UK.

British passports implies they are available for all of the home nations. As it turns out he is available for none.

More of a stretch than Januzaj. England will have to settle for just one Jamaican winger.

Looks like Jake Livermore was selected for his past reputation rather than current form.

Except he kinda has neither on his side.

Wonder if he'll go the World Cup.

hart, livermore and welbeck shouldn't be anywhere near the squad. lallana and whilshere too if he were going off current form like he said. pickford is shite as well. happy to see mawson included and i reckon he'll excel at international football.

I still can’t decide on who to pick for the number one spot:

Pope - Good shot-stopper, but doesn’t seem to be the level of an England number one.

Pickford - Mr. Overrated from last season hasn’t looked as assured this time around.

Butland - Probably the best overall, but he’s playing for the side second from bottom in the Premier League. Is it his fault? Probably not, but that Leicester mistake the other week was bad and a relegation before the World Cup won’t fill him with too much confidence.

Hart - Experienced, but past it massively. Reminiscent of a 2010 David James and shouldn’t be in the squad.

Welbeck always performs well for England. From a wide forward position I don't think anyone we have has a scoring record that comes close to his.

Fuck his scoring record. Look at the opposition he's scored those goals against. His goals came in routs vs the likes of Malta, Moldova, Lithuania etc. Literally the only decent team he's ever scored against is a 2012 Belgium side. It's the Rooney argument again, except Rooney actually performed at a domestic level unlike Welbeck. 13 goals in 4 seasons as a forward gets you a regular spot in the England team I guess.

Gareth Southgate is a fucking hypocrite picking players who have barely played after saying he only picks players who are playing regularly and in form.

He is no better than Roy Hodgson, he just says the right things then does the opposite. So expect a tirade again after we exit the workd cup early again.

Hodgson is a good manager all said and done. Don't think he's any good at coaching an international side though. Southgate is awful but hey ho what choice did the FA have?

Who can we call up that will perform at a higher level in that position? It's not like he's keeping Sterling or Rashford out of the squad or something. He consistently performs at a good level for England, I don't think we have the luxury of leaving players like that out of the squad, which is why Wilshere should have been back in it before now too.

In terms of the World Cup, the only certainties I think you can say are:
----------xxxxx-----------

Walker----xxx-xxx---xxxxx

-----------xxxx----xxxx-------

Sterling-----Alli--------xxxxxx

--------------Kane--------------

I think you have to start them 4 courtesy of the partnerships they've built up at club level. Beyond that, I think it's all up for debate. I'd imagine Stones, Dier and Henderson will probably start too but not everybody would be in favour of that.

Formation wise is also up for debate but most teams in the Premier League play with a back 4 so I think you have to go with that. That immediately makes life difficult for Cahill to be in the team or even squad as he's been reliant on a back 3 for several years now. He'd get too exposed in a 2.

Prediction wise, I think Southgate may start with this:

--------------------Butland-------

Walker----Jones-----Stones----Bertrand

--------------Dier------Henderson---------------

Sterling-----------Alli---------------Rashford

------------------Kane--------------------------

Partially tempted to say Jones and Smalling since they play together at club level but I think he'll go for Stones, plus Smalling doesn't seem to be in favour. Also, would personally prefer Wilshere over Henderson but can't see him leaving Hendo out.

Vardy is a certainty. As is Maguire. The first because after Kane he shits on all the other options, and actually out performs the spurs man against the bigger sides. And the second because he is probably the best ball playing English cb around, so yeah, fuck you Stones. He's too fucking slow though, but his stock seems to have really risen. Him n Stones could be very good if we had a forward thinking manager.
Kane, Vardy and Rashface for the striker roles is more than enough.

Should Alli be a certainty though? For the 11 I mean. Lingard has had a better season for me playing in the middle of an attacking mid trio.

Possibly not. But then I think he'll play him courtesy of the fact he does have a good understanding with Kane. Lingard has had a good season and is a Southgate favourite so I imagine he'll be close to a start or immediate backup for either Alli or Rashford's spot.

Any England fan with common sense could do a much better job than those 2 c***.

Every manager England ever has now is shit at picking the right players and systems etc

Sterling, Rashford, Lallana, LinGOD, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Young. That's probably who I'd call up right now and take to the WC to cover the 2 wide forward positions, with Sterling a definite starter and then a choice between Rashford and Lingard for the left side, assuming Alli will be preferred in the middle. Demarai Gray should be in with a shout of making the latest squad ahead of Welbeck as well, but he's not been involved to this point. 6 is more than enough, they're all much better players and they all cover various positions. Lallana and Ox can play in the middle, Lingard and Sterling can play as a 10, Rashford can play as a striker, Young can (does) play fullback. Welbeck is useless anywhere other than on the left (where I think he's rubbish anyway) so if he's not starting there I don't see the point, there's more versatile players with far more ability to include in the squad. Either there are more deserving strikers missing out due to his inclusion or his inclusion is a waste of time as there's already multiple superior players in the squad to play on the left . That's how I see it. I reckon they'll all end up going, along with Welbeck.

I'd much rather include those versatile players at his expense and instead take a midfielder who offers something different to the others instead of Welbeck. Wilshere and Lallana being the only ones in contention who offer creativity and invention from a deeper position. None of the others have that spark to change a game.

There's always the chance that weasel faced numpty will go in to the tournament with a midfield 3 of Dier, Henderson and Livermore and none of the debate over the front 3 will matter as we wont be able to supply them anyway.

All of the players you mention are still in the squad, though I don't think any of them have performed at a higher level for England than Welbeck. It all might be beside the point of course because Southgate looks to be playing with a back three and no wingers.

I would set up like this, personally.

Christ, that's incredibly defensive.

Rose should be nowhere near the line up after the season he's had as well.

Yeah, that's sort of the point. There's already plenty of options for his position, all of them currently performing better than him. Rashford and Lingard will, or at least should, be ahead of him for the left side without doubt. So it's a waste of a slot taking him imo. Leave him out for a creative midfielder or another striker, or both considering we wont be taking 4 keepers. It all boils down to me thinking he's shit and you disagreeing though, so we wont get anywhere with this.

I don't think that's a terrible lineup to use if they make the knockout rounds tbh, but if Dier is in the 11 he could play as a sort of half back, dropping in to the defence when England lose possession, rather than playing with 3 dedicated CB's + a very defensive, and not particularly mobile, midfielder in Dier. It's similar to how I wanted us to play at the last tournament, though that was mostly due to a lack of options on the wing at the time. Either way we should absolutely be exploiting out wing backs athleticism going forward. No way we should line up like that against Panama and Tunisia though.
