He can't fund it so he's no good to Ilkeston.
Reading back through this thread Ardley has been pretty shrewd signing a decent sized squad that's adaptable. Only Slocombe and Wooton don't have real cover of they're injured.

Agree that we don't have cover for those two, and they are clearly both key. I guess that's where a loan signing might come into play instead of having yet another permanent signing. Already have a little too big a squad, once again.

How are you Notts lads coping down in the basement? Any particular highlights? Any eye-opening "WTF?" moments so far?

Hadn't seen that. Doesn't surprise me as he was getting stick from Ilkeston supporters as time went on.

He probably needs time to write his book anyway!.

Personally I’m enjoying this season far more than quite a few previous ones! Obviously it helps that we are doing well, with pretty much automatic promotion form after a dodgy first three games in which we took just one point. It has also helped that most teams have brought good followings to ML, as I said in another thread we’re probably averaging more away fans at the Lane than at this point last season.

No real WTF moments from me, but then I haven’t been able to get away yet. I’m sure the likes of Jacob are better placed to answer that. It’s pretty annoying you usually have to wait until Monday at the earliest to watch the highlights tho.

We've a better team than last season, some heart, spine and increasingly belief. The standard has been surprisingly high, not seen a single team play hoofball although I missed Solihull which was pretty bad by all accounts.
the only WTF moments have been some tackles that down here are fine but free kicks all day long in the League. I actually like that there's allowable physicality rather than refs blowing for everything and nothing.

In that case hurry up and get yerselves relegated again, you'll love the NLN. The only yellow cards given out are for cowardice in the face of the enemy

Been easily the most enjoyable few months supporting Notts for ages. Obviously coming through the chaos of the summer has helped, as has having a decent team, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised by almost everything in this league tbh.

The away followings have been pretty much the same as we got in League Two (obviously the odd huge one from Mansfield etc aside), away games are much more enjoyable, the standard of football is surprising and I would say more teams try and play a passing game than in League Two (only Solihull have been noticeably negative and physical), even the refs have largely been pretty good.

Maybe our minds will change if we get stuck here, but early impressions are that it’s got a bit of an unfair rep. I’m enjoying it.

Have Notts County been getting all the good refs???
The rest of us have to put up with refs that don't allow any physicality and blow for everything and nothing!

Non league is pretty good for a lot of reasons. It's probably great to be here for a season or two then go back up and never come back down. I don't recommend staying here 12 years and counting. You basically find yourself slowly turning into Barrow/Southport.

No. Bromley away a prime example, stop start throughout. Heard the recent home game at Meadow Lane had a shocking ref.

But tbh it's poor football so why expect anything other than matching poor officials!?

you missed Workington off that list too... If you (Wrexham) don't get your finger out this season you'll be fully paid up members of that list and down in NLN...

Yeah the guy against Torquay had a shocker. But I’ve seen much worse in Leagues 1 and 2.

I’ve probably not seen as much as the some of the other Notts fans, but I think there’s a definite and noticeable drop in standards from league football. More free kicks ballooned out of play, more ponderous attacking play, and definitely worse defending(witness the clearance that set up Brindley’s goal against Torquay).

We’re doing well so all good atm, I could see how it would definitely start to grate a bit if you’re down here for more than a couple of seasons.

Worst ref was the one against Stockport right at the start, had me very worried but since I think they’ve largely been okay. Would agree with the number of like errors made as well, that’s definitely higher.

oddly one of our best was probably in the away game at Stockport - Rebecca Welch, who also refereed our pre-season game with Blackpool

Don't use us as an example of general NL defending. We are disastrously error prone at the back, as evidenced by the fact that we have scored the most goals in the division but only have a plus 3 goal difference!

Don't worry, we all knew he'd make a dick of himself sooner or later.
How can a man with no money be "in" for another club.
No doubt he'll go for Nolan as manager too. :woot:
