Just noticed we’re 9th and 3 points off the playoffs. Considering we’ve won 2 in 6 (albeit the last 2) that’s quite surprising. Cambridge and Oldham next so a good chance to make it 4 on the bounce.
It's incredibly open and most teams look at things similar to yourself.
We for example took 4 points off Plymouth and Mansfield ( granted they are struggling ) but then a so called easier run yields a powder puff defeat at Macc and a grim home draw with Stevenage.

Cue all the doom and gloom because we are definitely getting zero points from Bradford and Crewe away and rarely beat Oldham.

Mind you I thought the 11/10 Bradford was a licence to print money, fortunately payday is this Friday so I abstained.

Anybody can beat or lose to anybody else , the league is consistent in it's inconsistency

Its interesting, Vale hadn't won away, beat Bradford who won 4 in a row at home.

Orient win 4-0 Saturday, lose 4-0 Tuesday, Exeter flying now getting thumped twice in a week and sliding fast. Salford seem to go from one extreme to the other week in week out.

Literally anyone down to Scunny who have improved lately could challenge still, there is only really Walsall, Oldham, Carlisle, Stevenage and Morecambe who you'd look at say will likely struggle.

Taking away our first goal due to a shambolic decision from the ref, we still absolutely battered Leyton Orient first half and would have won that game comfortably. For a side who scored four on Saturday, Orient never really threatened until the closing part of the game. Massive three points, unbeaten in 5 in the league and the scum imploding even earlier than usual. Roll on Saturday

After sleeping on it I feel like the players deserve a lot of criticism for the lack of quality in the final third on both ends of the pitch, we should have won last night comfortably but the problem was the lack of response from the management team after we went 1-0 down too.

Saying that, Dempster cannot put the ball in the net for them, nor can he help those two ridiculous mistakes that led to the goals.

He’s gotta get a win against Walsall.

It wasn’t a bad showing like that against Cambridge but the problem for dempster is that it’s Groundhog Day. It’s the same defensive mistakes, it’s the same tactical nativity and he clearly had no ability on how to solve it.

This side is good enough for automatic promotion, yet here we are in 18th.

I actually hope we don’t beat Walsall (not that I believe we will anyway) as a win will kick the fan down the road until we’re dreadful in the next game.

We’ve had a good showing at port vale (where yet again the same mistakes cost us the win) we had a very lucky win at Grimsby - we managed to still concede against the 9 men of Oldham and his first half tactics nearly cost us the game at forest green.

Personally I don’t understand how he still has a job

Because your trying to make your hatred of the Vale a 2 way one when barely a single Vale fan gives a toss. Our interest is Sjoke (only need to see the hatred in the paint pot last year), so suggesting a comment had an underlying dig at Crewe when it’s nothing do with Crewe is pretty funny.

We’ve helped keep you top tonight, enjoy.

We'll see if it's still a 'one way street' when Vale take the obligatory 1-0 win in two weeks.

I understand Sjoke are your derby, but Port Vale/Crewe are your rivalry and it's the first games both set of fans look at when the fixtures are released.

So wrong there mate can't speak for any other Vale fan.
First game i looked for was Salford, followed by Plymouth away. Then Boxing day. Then Crewe.

Sjoke and Vale is the rivalry, the hatred is 10 times anything else, we sing about them, they sing about us, the derbies are absolute carnage usually and only had to look at the intensity in the Checkatrade last season.

Crewe is a local game where we take a big crowd so a good away day, similar to Macclesfield or Burton and there is a bit of added spice but can't say I take any interest in where they are unless it directly affects the Vale. We've been to busy directing our hatred towards Norman and our survival to hate Crewe, any interest on other clubs is generally enjoyment at Stoke's demise the past three years.

Vale - Crewe got a bit more interesting after Donaldson's dive and Micky and Dario trading abuse and Crewe fans celebrating when we went into Administration but its more died out now. Artell is detested but that's more to do with his 'time' at Vale and has been quite a comical character since with his bitter outbursts.

There isn't the same edge when we play Crewe, at one point a decade ago Shrewsbury were more of interest. 12pm KO's and loads of trouble.

I would guess this is why our fans are getting inpatient as the chance to potentially meet the lardies next season in L1 is a huge carrot!

Ah good, a Crewe v Vale debate, that hasn't been done in a while.

Happy with a point from last night. Frustrating that we don't get to see the penalty incident because the camera is pointing in the other direction. Got to say, damn sharp eyes from the lino who spotted not only Hunt's initial foul but Robinson's reaction, if that is indeed what happened.

Thank god it didn't matter in the end. How the ref can give such a pivitol decision on the basis of what the lino saw from 40 yards is baffling though. Also glad the Vale won, not just to keep us top, but because I was dreading them coming to Gresty Road a week on Saturday and getting their first away win. Thank god that won't be happening.

I wonder how many Vale fans looked for Plymouth away second?

Its a good away day (last day of the season so weather will be better!)

Personally I look who we've got first, Boxing Day and Last!

The Grimsby number 6 did a good job, pretty much every ball went towards him and he dealt with it each time.

More impressive for us last night I think was our number 25 Mattie Pollock (fish puns already been done to death).

The lad has only recently celebrated his 18th birthday but he's impressed me every time I've seen him play and he was outstanding last night. I reckon we could have another Ryan Bennett on our hands here.

The relatively poor standard of the match officials down here is encouraging players to dive at will me thinks. Saturday had that Cobblers penno vs Salford (as pointed out by JJ1532) and Alabi going down like he's been shot for Orient's fourth goal at Grimsby, while last night had that pathetic dive by the Bradford lad vs Vale.

Pity there's no footage of the Col U one as it sounds dodgy as well.

We've played all of the current top 9 now... our record against them isn't great... only 1 point (a goalless draw at home to FGR), of the others, Northampton and Crewe have also come to Brunton Park and won, the other six were all away defeats so that's a good chunk of the more difficult games in this division out of the way.

Of teams outside the top 9, our record is significantly better. Played 6, won 4, drew 1, lost 1

Can we avoid relegation? Performances are getting worse in spite of my attempt to put a more positive spin on results.

Of course that's only the current top 9 and you could argue the teams up there and in part up there because they've had the fortune to play us and been gifted three points. Orient are currently 17th but if they beat us at the weekend then they could also jump into the top 9... then what?

from what I've read it was a bunch of younger bradford fans making monkey noises at an older bradford fan.

Not good at all, especially when you'd think clubs in cities such as Bradford would want to try and entice fans from the different ethnic populations in their city to games.

Hopefully the perpetrators get caught and banned from football grounds.

I'm still trying to figure out how the Cambridge player missed that rebound from the penalty last night.

It was far easier to score!

Pretty drab game last night but great result for Port Vale.

Very soft penalty but the ref made up for it allowing the Vale defenders to play at wrestling the second half, wouldn’t have changed the result like that was on us. Terrible first half Vale were the better team but created little except the goal and a chance from a corner.

Even without the undeserved penalty I felt if we improved second half we could go onto win, and we did dominate second half having probably 18 of our 20 shots then but again so wasteful we keep missing chance after chance this season it was always going to cost us eventually. Then we go pass a cross field ball which they go intercept and go onto score with their only venture into our half in the second half.

Not end of the world we’ll play worse than we did second half and win games comfortably, but we have 7 out who walk into our squad and 5 who probably walk into our starting 11 and most in this league it’s getting beyond a joke now. I fear for us Saturday if Pritchard and Connolly are still out as they’re massive to the way we play and are our biggest creative outlets in the side.

The atmosphere was awful from both sets of supporters, you could here the keepers moaning most of the night!

Yes he did do well in fairness, I didn't realise he was that young either!

Sorry I don’t get why a rival team is often known as “the scum.” I want us not just to win but hammer Exeter on Saturday, but why use such strong terms? After all, they are fans of a team possibly because their dad was, they were born there or moved for work. The same as why you and I support the greens.

If you look at this forum there are sensible posters of all the teams, including Exeter, and there are some for whom the word sensible does not apply.

Anyway, enjoy your visit to St James Park

You wouldn't realise that by the size of him. A right bloody unit for only 18!

What's he supposed to do? If the linesman was actually watching them and is convinced he saw a foul, the ref (who was looking elsewhere) is hardly gonna tell him he was wrong.

Perfectly happy with a point last night. Colchester were very well organised and were happy to let us have pretty much all of the ball but they restricted us to very few chances. In fact, they probably had better chances than we did (even before the penalty). Great save by Will Jaask. He's getting better with every game.

You’re from some town deep in the midlands, you have no affiliation to the local area and I can guarantee I know more Vale fans than you do.

Seconded. I want to win on Saturday as much as all other argyle fans, but leave calling other football fans ‘scum’ to the classless Pompey fans who so often use it to refer to Southampton.

Funnily enough it’s usually those throwing that insult around who personify it. As we saw on tv last season when matey assaulted the player at Fratton.

No, let’s pin it on Boris. It’s an easier narrative to follow.
