Massive thanks to Oaf and Munkiki for running the game, I'm sure when it started you didn't expect it to take this long, but there were plenty of ideas and variations to keep it fresh.

Yeah that was an outrageously epic game. Disappointing to have weeks and weeks of getting absolutely nothing but that's part and parcel so well done Stags. We thought getting Pingu would be huge for us and it turned out that was our last good week!

Cheers Oaf/Munks!

Summary:

GAME OVER

1FF Wars has finally reached its end. With Laras victory at Hogwarts, STAGS are able to take Jurassic Park off of 3DD, meaning that they now control every territory in the game. Congratulations to STAGNIFICENT!

3DD can feel hard done by, when it reached the final two they looked like clear favourites. But you need luck to succeed at 1FF Wars, and for whatever reason, week after week, 3DD were getting absolute fuck all on that side of things. Still, 2nd place is nothing to be ashamed of and after such a long journey they can be proud of their efforts.

Some stuff:

The game lasted:
156 days in total. That's 22 weeks. Which is staggering... I have to admit, I didn't actually think it'd last anywhere near that long

Which is why I've got to say I have an absolutely amazing amount of love for those of you who took part so passionately to keep it going for so long. Without the enthusiasm you all kept right up until the end, the motivation to keep 1FF Wars going simply would have been non existent. It is a mother fucker to run, but it always feels worth it when I see how into it you guys get. Even when people are having a go because I've cocked something up, like I always say, it just shows that you care, which at the end of the day is the most important thing to me.

Of course, a fucking huge thank you must go out to Munkiki. I know it sounds cliche to say, but I literally mean every word of this: Without Munkiki 1FF Wars wouldn't have been possible. Heck, it would have been a disaster if I'm honest. He kept things accurate, corrected a whole multitude of errors on my part that everybody else had missed and kept this game going when I wasn't able to. I feel pretty confident in saying that without him helping me, I don't think 1FF Wars would have reached an end, there's no way I could have kept it up on my own for 5 damn months. He's not been around for a while as of late, but for when you do come back Munkiki: THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Again, thanks to every single player who took part to make 1FF Wars feel like it was worth the effort of running. And once again, congrats to Stagnificent, who stuck at it and managed to pull off a victory, even though it seemed unlikely at a time.

I think getting to the point where it looked like we were gone helped us in the end. We changed strategy from being very cautious and playing for the latter stages despite not being guaranteed to get there to a very agressive, live on the edge and try and not be the next team out strategy. That was when our luck started to change. We bought characters we wouldn't have bought near the start and ended up with some cracking abilities (Heskey for example). Super Meat Boy was our best player of course but Captain America ran him close, that man just would not lose once he got going, maybe he used the embarrasment of losing to Elsa early on to get himself going.

My biggest regret with 1FF Wars is that factions and leaders weren't really as big a deal as I hoped they'd be. People didn't really seem to try to collect multiple characters from factions and when they did get some, they weren't really characters who benefited from it. About the only case of it I can think of really is Ash Ketchum with other Pokemon, and at one stage that was absolutely dominating the lightweight fights.

I was just saying to STAGS about the Street Fighter characters, for example. There was Ryu, Ken and Sagat all with single use abilities that did a guaranteed 1HP of damage... and then M.Bison had a leader ability that allowed those other SF characters to restore their abilities. A team with all four of them on would have been deadly as fuck.

The best one though, was Mickey Mouse. He was the most expensive character in the game, but buying him basically gave you the keys to the Disney empire...

His abilities were based upon the fact that Disney are such juggernauts and buy every fucker out. Basically, you gained 50k per week for each other Disney faction member in your team... and there were a fair few Disney faction members in the game. He also had access to an exclusive shop that only Mickey Mouse could enter... in that shop you could buy other teams characters off of them for £1m+the characters value, buy territories for £1m or... if you could reach the sort of crazy money it'd require (and with 50k per Disney character coming in each week, maybe it'd be achievable with enough of them...) for £10m + the value of the 3 most expensive characters, he was actually able to entirely buy out a team, eliminating them from the game and taking all of their characters, money and territories for themselves.

This game turned the self proclaimed forum game king to the forum game chump. (That Grandstand performance)

As for character abilities, please reveal what the £1m Death Star did that we decided against buying when we were at our highest.

Also Yoda's ability!

Also, was there a way to kill Dr Manhattan other than Death Match?

He died after five rounds no matter what. We were going to try and sell him after four rounds but it never transpired.

Well, that was inevitable!

Thanks to Oaf, the brainpower behind the whole thing and I can't even imagine how long it took to plan and run. I certainly wouldn't have had the desire to do it but you did and you made it brilliant, as per.

Thanks to Munkiki too, you kept it running smoothly when Oaf was away and were picking up his mistakes. You were a big part of it too and that shouldn't be overshadowed at all. Hope all is well.

Stags - well done. I thought you were dead and buried at one stage but you came back stronger than the Undertaker ever did. Unfortunately for us the only person that could beat Captain America appeared to be a Disney princess that was unjustly beaten earlier in the game. Your competition was great and your competitive nature made it. Worthy winners.

The other teams - Again, you all made it brilliant. The banter, the deceiving, the downright outrageous claims, and the effort put in. You guys all made it good fun to be a part of!

3DD. Lee, Veggie, Magic. It was a pleasure and I hope we team up somewhere else someday! You three committed brilliantly and all bought so much to the team (even if it took Magic three months to realise why was going on ;)). We literally had everything go against us at the end, and we couldn't have done much more if we played this another 20 times. Thanks for making a great team!

As for character abilities, please reveal what the £1m Death Star did that we decided against buying when we were at our highest.

Also Yoda's ability!

The Death Star basically started a Star Wars inspired sub plot. In short, it took 10 weeks to charge... and when it starts, all other teams have to say whether they wish to "submit" or "rebel" to it. After 9 weeks, all of the teams that rebel then have their characters go on a mission to destroy the death star... if they succeed, it's gone, no problem. If they failed, then one of the teams who chose to rebel would be randomly chosen as the target and all characters had a 50% chance of taking 2HP damage, and then it'd start up another 10 week countdown.
If teams chose to submit, they'd be able to be immune from suffering this fate... unless ALL other teams choose to submit, in which case one team is chosen at random to take the blast with no chance of fighting it off.

Probably a bit much putting it at a 10 week count down.

As for Yoda, he'd basically give somebody Jedi training, like in the Empire Strikes Back. They'd gain 5BR and also join the "Light Side" faction. Though actually, just looking through, the only real benefit of having lots of Light Side factions would be if a team had Obi Wan... his ability "if you strike me down..." meant that upon his death, all other Light Side faction members on your team gain 2BR and heal 1HP.

The Dark Side faction was a hell of a lot cooler, really. You had the Emperor, who's leader ability meant that each time a Dark Side faction member won a fight he'd get a "manipulation token"... when he got 5, you could select another team and steal a random character with 15BR or under, and they'd join the Dark Side faction. And then, if teamed up with Darth Vader, Vader could become immense... his ability meant that each time a Dark Side faction member joined the team he'd gain 1BR and it allowed him to break the 20BR cap. So he could have become unstoppable.

Hm. Other cool abilities... well, Cartman's was pretty fucked up. If another team had a parent/child partnership (to be fair there weren't many, but a lot of them were probably from the Star Wars characters...) he could instantly kill the parent, grind them into chilli and feed them to the child.

Vince Mcmahons ability had potential to bring in a lot of money as well. He got 100k per week per WWE faction member (there were 5 in total, so a potential 500k a week!) and for each 4 wins a WWE faction member got he was able to get a guaranteed WWE faction member in the offers.

Commander Shepard from Mass Effect was able to lead a ME2 style suicide mission to attack another teams HQ directly, potentially eliminating a team in one go... in the same sense, V from V for Vendetta could do a proper gunpowder plot to try the same thing.

The Golden Axe seemed to be in this from the start, but if 3DD had ever managed to sign Death Adder (the main villain from The Golden Axe!) he would have gained 6BR from it, instead of just the 3...

James Bond had a lot of lives. He started as "James Bond (Connery)" and then every time he died got "recast", bringing him back as each Bond in order...

Zippy was indeed a character, with his "Nip from the Zip" ability. Though I'm not sure if he was even offered once...

Sin, from Final Fantasy X, was unkillable. Literally. He'd simply go away for a few weeks but always come back.

The "COD pro" was pretty cool as well. He had killstreak rewards, as in he'd get better stuff for consecutive victories. It eventually leads to a tactical nuke, where he'd be able to select a team and have each character take 1HP damage.

The Elder Wand from Harry Potter was in it, and if equipped to an order of the pheonix character or Voldemort it gave them an 8BR boost!

Gordon Freeman, a huge character last time around, had a new ability this time that would have actually been ideal for 3DD at the end. Basically, the less characters/money/territories your team had, the stronger he got, and he could go over 20BR... he was the sort of character you want when you're basically fucked and can drag your team out of trouble.

Ra's Al Ghul had his Lazarus pit, enabling characters to come back from the dead...

The Joker basically took over a team if they made him their leader. He'd pick your fights/characters for the fights, but if they won they'd have a 50% chance of doing 2HP damage for a win instead. And he also had a "why so serious" ability that meant that any time any players swore in the thread, he'd be able to dish out 3hp randomly across their roster. Proper troll move

Batman was able to intimidate characters into not taking part in battles, sort of like Zuul.

The Hulk was able to switch between The Hulk and Bruce Banner this time around...

Voldemort was really cool actually. He could create Horcrux out of items and also use the 3 unforgivable curses, each with different effects.

 Zuul was just an absolutely near game breaking power to get as the first power in the game. Later on, when rosters had like 10 characters each, it wouldn't have been that big... but coming at a time when rosters just just starting out meant that they could stop teams from being able to take part at all.

Can't put it better than HOD really. No luck at the end but thought we played as well as we could. Looking back, I don't see much we could have done different. Big credit to Stag as they were almost out and one point and to come back and win was a top effort.

Just want to say a big thank you to my 3 team mates. I can honestly say it's the best 'team' I've ever been a part of. When Wars was announced, I knew I wanted to team back up with HOD as we were on the same wavelength in the TFF version. I straight away decided I wanted Veggie Legs and Magic having played against them in other games. Neither of them disappointed. Veggie is excellent at playing devils advocate and really got us considering all possibilities every week. Magic took a while to understand and his single word answers gave me an unintentional laugh at times but from then on he was an excellent strategist. All in all, I hope to play with them again. Top stuff fellas.

And thank you to Oaf and Munks. Oaf, you have created this monster, and whilst it doesn't run perfectly at times, it's a beast of a game and your effort to make it work and the prep beforehand is just fantastic. And Munkiki dedicated so much time to making the weeks run smoothly, especially around April/May time.

And finally, thank you to the opposition. Aside from Joex4 usual flop, all 5 teams made this a very memorable game. From Spirederman's breakdowns, to Last Request's deception, to T6's money making and Stag somehow winning, it was just brilliant.

Well done everyone.

Already said thanks to Oaf and Munks in our PM but will do so again here.

Thanks, Oaf and Munks.

Well played 3DD. Honestly thought you had it won but it seems we got loads of luck in the final stretch. I'd be gutted in your shoes. You were a great team.

Few things from my perspective. Aye, we were all but out when we were down to Meat Boy and Jesse Pinkman. As SUTSS said, we changed our mindset there to one of just buying someone who can do some damage (to anyone) before we go out... to then trying to outlast SBF, then GNC, and then realising we could maybe get 2nd ahead of T6...

Couldn't see a way to win when you had Pokemons coming into LW fights at 15BR and Kev coming into MW fights at 20. Had to try to grab as many hitmen and poisons and whatever else as we could. Also thought we were done when you got Pingu. Especially when the big-hitter we created lost in the semi to T6's guy.

Speaking of Pingu, I thought you could've used a combination of him and Kirk to grind down Captain. There was a point where we'd overspent, again, and really needed to win bonus fights. If you'd made the bonus fights Normandy Beach for a few weeks, with 2 or 3HP Captain vs 5HP Pingu, we'd have had to think long and hard about putting him in there. Dunno if this crossed your mind and you decided against it for any reason or not.

SBF were grinding us down too by forever zuuling Manhattan. As Natch said, he was going to fuck off whatever happened after 5 fights so we just wanted him to fight - even if he lost. Coz he was on a massive wage. But they wouldn't let him in anywhere! And I think he was only 6+6 btw? Nowt special by the end. But yeah, that took more scrimping and saving of poison and whatnot to kill Zuul.

Another big moment was getting the two weapons from GNC in exchange for just enough cash for them to keep Wolverine. Real bargain there. I sent GNC a pretty shit opening offer - i.e. just enough - and they just accepted it. Completely unexpected. Those weapons were vital in the end and it also stopped 3DD from getting Wolverine at the time.

Really glad Captain made it to the end coz he was our first signing back on page 1. Woulda been nice if he'd been the one to beat the turtle at the end but whatever. We were as surprised as anyone when he came back from the dead that time too. Can't remember why right now though, or what the criteria was for that.

Anyone know how many game weeks were before and how many were after the apocalypse ones btw? Thought we'd be finishing soon after those but seemed to go on almost as long again.

Anyroad, well played 3DD and everyone else, thanks Munks and Oaf, and thanks also to SUTSS, Natch, and Dave. It's been great. But I'm kinda glad it's over.

Glad I really made the effort to understand/get the hang of things despite feeling very lost at the start. Got very into it and enjoyed it immensely. Partly down to my teammates being top guys/players and not wanting to be a shitty outcast  Haven't been in a team where everyone has contributed the whole way through really so kudos to the other guys. When the next one happens in 2022 I hope we can get our revenge :bg:

PS. Fuck off Emile.

We were worried about what Time Turner would do. Had theories of it taking someone (Captain) back to his starting stats. Glad when it was just what the Flash was already doing anyway.

What was that Hired Gun ability you had at the end btw? Must have been shit if you never bothered using it.

It was only for protecting other Breaking Bad characters if they get forced into a fight, which was pretty disappointing in the circumstances.

Aye, that racoon we bought was just a punt on his ability and that turned out rubbish too. We coulda shoulda got Ken that week instead.

Am interested if there was anything worth mentioning you thought we could or should have done differently, looking from your point of view, that we may have missed. Obviously lots of little things but owt major that sticks in the mind?

Can't speak on behalf of everyone but by the latter stages I think we both had a fairly accurate understanding of what each other would do. I can't remember thinking of many occasions where you acted against expectations.

Possibly earlier on but I really can't remember that far back!

You were overly wreckless at times. Prof X was a good example. GNC offered us to him in what was in fairness a good deal, we said no but we knew you guys would take him.

He was a heavyweight, but a poor one, and the rosters by that stage were too strong to be able to build him without Xaviers. In the end you were spunking 115k on wages for 2 16BR characters. Wasn't the best move!

Nothing stands out in general though. You were smart with Captain A but we had a chance to kill him and missed it, which was probably what lost us the game in the end, along with the horrendous luck.

Yeah Prof X was a bad move. I found myself feeling like George Osborne promoting Austerity at times but the decision to go for it seemed to pay off on the whole.

I think with Prof X the idea was to get the price in the auction up. Just no one else wanted him.
