Wembley is a terrible stadium for these kinds of matches.
Even at sell-out international matches the atmosphere is fecking awful. It's too spread out generally, the lower tiers were simply built too far away from the pitch.
I'd frankly rather the league playoff finals were held at stamford bridge or selhurst park or some shit. At least you wouldnt be half a mile from the pitch.

The SISU boycott didn't seem to affect the Ricoh attendance for the cheap game v Accy this season (28k)?

I see 30k sold now, which makes the low home turnout (13k) in the semi at the Ricoh all the more perplexing. More than 17,000 so far going to Wembley than went to the home play-off semi-final? Christ I would hate to be sat next to one of those.

If we had made the final , I would of been in a club Wembley suite with 19 friends and family. Gutted about that more than not getting (possible) promotion.

For us, the novelty of Wembley has warn off. Most can't afford to attend both Twickenham for Exeter Chiefs, who can seal the Aviva Prem for a second year running, and Wembley, a souless ground. Although I will be at both, I know many regulars at SJP who will only be attending Chiefs. A much bigger game for Exeter as a City and for those who like both egg chasing and football and aren't made of money. It's annoying it's not the same as last year, as those attending both will now have to stay over in London for two nights, unlike last year where City played the day after Chiefs.

I bet the vast majority of regular home fans will be going Wembley, no need to try and defend the turn out, it’s not a big appeal like some make out Wembley to be.

It's a national thing, it is frightening that educational levels have dipped to the point when it is almost second nature.

Neither is staying away. As I have said before, I don't think many are officially boycotting, they are just staying away as they have become so disenfranchised and can't face it. Many have fallen out of love with the club. They should be back, but they aren't. Our crowd in the semi was awful.

The idea that if these fans went every week we would be higher is a bit of a myth. SISU lost the Ricoh due to a lot of reasons not because of crowds. They didn't move us to Northampton because of crowd numbers.

SISU failed to invest when we still maintained crowds over 17,000 and won't invest any money from these playoffs.

Much bigger occasion with much more appeal than watching us suffer an another Wembley defeat with Tisdales boring tactics. I'd arguably have gone to Wembley had Chiefs not be playing there. 2 nights in London & tickets for both along with everything that goes with it (Drinks, food, travel). You're looking at well over £500 each. It's hardly an excuse, we'll be taking 30kish to Twickenham and we actually have a chance of winning.

'we' I don't even know what the Chiefs are but they are not interchangable with Exeter City FC attendances.

Like I said, it's pretty obvious the vast majority of season ticket holders/regular home fans are going to go because they are the most loyal fans.

It was you that had the so called "low turnout" of home fans. 13k home fans at Meadow Lane. There were 14.5k home fans at the Ricoh.

The two unknowns next to me for that game was a little disconcerting before kick off but they seemed alright throughout the game. Weren’t newbies. The same can’t be said for the random loudmouth sat two rows behind me. Knob!

13,000 Notts fans at the Lane was a beautiful sight that’s for sure. Its very rare that the regulars can play spot the empty seat but was a tough game that day

No - there's a clear difference between a normal attendance boost for a big game and 30,000 people coming out of the woodwork that don't bother going to normal games. I'd take 10k proper Exeter fans over them tbh.

These people going are still fans though, they just aren't loyal supporters.

I have many family members going who haven't been since Wembley last year. They are all ex-season ticket holders who have found things better to do than watch the most depressing club in the country.

Do I think they are bandwagon fans? Yes.
Do they still follow the club? Yes, just not in the way a proper fan would.

I'd love all these fans to come back, but it would take years. I don't think our home crowds will increase too much if we do get promoted.

Might be a day out for Coventry, but it's a very long day for Exeter fans and train tickets are a lot more expensive. As a result, many are either going up for a few nights or not going at all. I do think that those who went last season and saw us underperform will think twice about going again.
Not me, I'll be there and making a weekend of it!

I don't think anyone has trouble accepting that a play off final at Wembley is a more attractive game than a league match on a Tuesday at the New Lawn, it's just that those type of fans annoy the hell out of those that actually follow their team through thick and thin all around the country no matter what. Fair weather fans are among the worst type of football fans in my eyes. Fair enough if you can sell out a Wembley allocation as that's a hell of an achievement, but it shouldn't just be 40,000 fans for a game at Wembley when you can barely get 10,000 for important league games.

Every club has them mind you, we sold 35,000 for Wembley when we went in 2008 and our home attendances are barely a third of that at the best of times.
