As I said to Luke you can swap the teams in 16th to 21st around do all season, so I put us in that bracket at the moment, I just put us in the bottom of it at the end of the season when there is nothing to play for with 3 games left. I hope to be proven wrong and maybe even push into the top half because Slade is half decent but at the same time could quite easily see Fenty sack him at Christmas because we are 12th, 5 points of his target.

Oh and yes I am miserable and fallen out of love with both Grimsby and football in general last season

I'm afraid you've got to help me out here. What happened last season then? The only thing I can think of is that you lot were just outside the top 7 but Fenty decided not to risk going for it. I thought you lot were relatively satisfied with a comfy midtable finish in the end, it's definitely preferable to being a top 5 Conference side but with only one ridiculous automatic promotion spot up for grabs.

I don't think we'll struggle. Even though Slade has never won promotion, he usually makes his teams solid. And I'm struggling to think a more experienced defence than ours (experience doesn't always equate to good though). Upfront is where we're lacking though and unless we're planning on sharing the goals, the playoffs are beyond us.

Nothing really to do with on field issues, most fans would have been happy with mid table (well the majority anyway) it's Fenty who wasn't. Like I say he brought in Bignot to build for the future then sacked him because he was signing players (who Fenty presumably authorised) for next season not the current one.

Wasn't just that though, the whole B team issue, where Fenty basically said at a fans forum that it didn't matter if fans boycotted because they were still making money from it. I take that as basically saying to hell with fans, if the Premier league offer all league 2 clubs 5 million a season next year most would happily let B teams into the league and play in empty stadiums.

Just the whole stigma around the club after all the good work and coming together after losing to Bristol in the play offs, all went out the window last season. Back in the league, back to the old ways of player/manager turnover and bad pr.

Even the trust are now asking for members views on their future and whether they should stay on the club board as they can't influence decisions and have to back the board on whatever they decide in public such as on B teams, when they really want to be organising boycotts etc.

To be fair, I felt that the two optimistic and romantically driven punts in my (less than reliable) forecast were us in 3rd and Mariners in 18th. I can see them finishing below Accrington and Morecambe with their encumbent managers.

I never realised that. Nor did I realise Robins has never been promoted either.

One of the contributors on our forum has done a piece on all the L2 managers (both individually and collectively) - http://www.lincoln.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=499156

Our squad just isn't good enough to make any sort of dent in the league this season, it's significantly weaker than last year. We've downgraded on more positions than not and as far as I know our most exciting signing has never made a professional appearance. Our defence looks decent and we have a couple other good players in midfield, being Osborne (out til Christmas) and Jones (probably be played out of position) but the rest of the squad is underwhelming. We've signed too many gambles and barely improved on any position.

I don't think we're in any danger of going down but coming in to a season that was meant to see us have a crack at the playoffs, it's already looking bleak and we've not even kicked a ball yet.

Christ, you two are a laugh so far.
I learnt to stop caring too much about the outcomes of football a while ago so I'll still go to games and I'll enjoy them like I have for years, but I see a lot of Town fans on social media and the like thinking we're going to make the playoffs. I just don't see any evidence at all that we will, nor any that we'll even finish higher than last season. I hope our gamble signings turn out to be great and help us make a push but it all remains to be seen. Just my opinion. UTM and all that.

Oh I agree, I don't think we'll make the playoffs because we just haven't got the players. I just think it's slightly unfair to say we're weaker than last season; I mean Vernon started our first game last year! Oh wait...

I don't think we're monumentally weaker but I would say we are even if a little, which is still a bit disappointing. Especially when we've been linked with some half decent names and attracted none of them, for whatever reason I don't know and I am a little sympathetic towards that; we're back to being that small club in a shite area with a decent looking budget that in reality is peanuts compared to some others. But fuck it, it's still better than the conference.

Crewe 19th!!! You're 'avin' a laugh.
I'm going to be honest, Crewe was a tough one and I ran out of spaces! Good starting XI but a young squad overall.

My top 12 will be the teams in the mix. Will be suprised if Mansfield and Luton don't go up.

Never made it. I'm friends with him on FB, so I can confirm he is alive and still a Mariner though.

Just edited mine. Had Barnet too high, Stevenage too low and swapped around the bottom 5. Made some minor changes to the play off positions too.

Anybody else when they do these always struggle to remember the odd club you forget even existed? Port Vale was mine.

I feel like one of Mansfield or Luton will mess up the automatic spots, hopefully it's the latter.

Feel like Exeter and Stevenage are going to be under-rated.
