It's an odd one. And it must be said he was a clear second favourite to Alun Armstrong who we went after first. If I'm honest neither in my opinion are what we need right now.

The club needs a steady hand at the helm someone who can do things to budget and thus maybe has good connections to clubs across the country where we can get loan signings on the cheap. And offer players dropping out of those academies a shop window to get back into the full time game.

Most of all though if we don't have the money to go out and buy the best the league has to offer we have to be tough to beat. Solid when out of possession. This is something we haven't had under Gray for the last season and a half. If you're not conceding then all you need to do is score one to win.

I don't know who is left on the list of those that applied or expressed an interest. But I'd certainly like to see someone like Ronnie Moore in charge. Oooo well the search continues and we'll see who we get.

Fucking Hell Darlo must be in a bad place if they think approaching Nuneaton for their manager Tommy Wright is a good idea! He got Corby relegated from this league, flattered to decieve last season and is struggling this season. Even more surprised that he himself turned them down after a full interview apparently.

Strange.

Good, he kicked the ball away when we were awarded a throw in :sna: We are in a bad place it's called Blackwell Meadows.

David McGurk has also turned us down.

In fact, it looks like he impressed the most in interviews and was first choice, and then we went after Armstrong, and then Wright.

So that's 3 rejections now.

It's getting to the point that we'll have had so many managers recently I'll start forgetting their names.

They were dead men walking even from their appointment to be fair, even more so than most of the other managers we've appointed.

So let's have a sweepstake to see how long Kevin Davies lasts as manager, 6 month? Nowt against Kevin Davies of course seems a canny bloke just that Southport need to keep up there average of 4 managers a season

They were sacked on the 26th September.

aaah i never even seen that anywhere.

To be fair i am unsure if it will do much unless they bring players in........many of us on here thought Southport could be a good relegation bet just before season started and it wasn't down to the manager, just down to them simply looking a pretty weak team.

Davies has a lot of hard work to do.

Not sure about Big Kev as a manager but John Dreyer is a very good coach, Grayson kept him on after replacing Westley, although Steve Thompson came in as first team coach when we got to the Championship. Was a shame to see him go, I think if KD has any success at Southport then Dreyer will play a big part.

Great player back in the day too. 100% application and determination.

If anyone fancies an upset tomorrow, I would look at what odds you can get on Town losing at home to Leamington. Couple of key absentees tomorrow, a lack of a front line and a poor result in the cup at home to Trinity the previous Saturday does not bode well.

So.....days after rejecting Darlington Wright rung the Nuneaton chairman at 6.30 pm tonight saying he had changed his mind and has joined Darlington after meeting with club representatives again

Nuneaton chairman not happy - Wow. Just off phone with @Official_NTFC chairman who is on family holiday in Spain. Said he is bruised, hurt and disgusted by move..

Former Southport manager Dino Maamaria in as Assistant to John Ashton at Nuneaton

Absolutely huge game tomorrow for us at Tamworth. Beginning to get rather pissed off and disillusioned at the moment. Desperate for a result really for a number of reasons. Not sure McDermott is tactically up to it and is very naive though. Hope to be proven wrong
Lose tomorrow and then I will begin to think McDermott is not up to it and things are going to get a lot worse before they get better.

I know the feeling DSL! I've been up and down the country like a fiddlers elbow, to watch a load of garbage. Well and truly pissed off.

We haven't won in the league since August 28th. Oh well, it's only Blyth today, should be an easy 3 points given they've just won six out their last seven league games and are the division's top scorers. Like last year we're always good and competitive - but not ruthless enough to bag enough wins. Bring back August.

Hearing mumurs this morning that we are close to managerial change. Seems John really is on thin ice. Defeat today may be curtains.

Sort've shows just how tight this middle area of table is and how quickly it can turn from good to worrying.

Seen it at Curzon last week. On 45 mins we'd won only one in last 10, we're 4 points off drop and had played 2 games more than rest.........by 90 mins we have lost only one in last 8, are 7 points off drop zone and looking at play-offs.

For some in that middle just a run of tough games can turn whole season

Spennymoor are a proper dirty team. Falling over at every possible opportunity and completely conned the ref all game topping off with them getting a penalty in the 90th minute after O'Connor stood next to their striker. No claims for a penalty by anyone the ref just pointed to the spot.

Another game another crap refereeing display.

Another big 3 points for us against FCUM today in appalling conditions, and another goal for Nick Haughton. FC finished yet another game with 10, they are certainly very physical, but it doesn't seem to be doing them much good. Time for Marginson to go I would gave thought. On now to Spendymoor next Saturday.

Another good win, albeit against a poor FC side, next up spennymoor away, a win would be great, but it will be tough

Tamworth 2-3 Alfreton (Styche 29,45) (Robertson 18,40 Westcarr 89)

Oh yes! That was so much better!

Really enjoyed today. A trip to Tamworth is always a pleasure and credit to both sides for serving up a really entertaining game in tough conditions.

Never side covered themselves in glory defensively particularly in the first half but that added to the entertainment!

Brody Robertson who has been nothing short of atrocious so far this season was a revelation too. First he showed great strength and compsure to run on and finish on 18 minutes. Reece Styche leveled for Tamworth after he was given too much time to move inside and fire past Elliott. Robertson got his second 5 minutes before the break after Daniels punished an error from Regan Upton by unselfishly putting it on a plate for Robertson. Tamworth before the break though as some really poor defending allowed Styche to latch on to a long ball and blast past Elliott way too easilly.

Regan Upton who had a terrible first half and was lucky to not be sent off for a clear elbow on Jennings was rightly subbed at half time for the hosts.

The second half was much more low key and tight until Craig Westcarr stepped up in the 89 minute to fire past Rowley through a rook of players to give a much needed and deserved win.

Brought back real memories of our 3-2 win at Tamworth in the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round in 2015/16 with John Johnston scoring in the final minute in very similar circumstances.

Credit to John and players for producing when it mattered. It was clear John was fired up and understood the importance of todays win after the final whistle. 3 extremely tough games coming up now. Glad we picked up the 3 points today.

Curzon 2-1 Boston............and into the play-offs.

A hard game really to report on. The weather was so horrendous that frankly it ruined the game as a contest and was simply down to who could cope better with conditions. Strangely the wind was so so strong that it made playing into the wind better than playing with the wind because it was easier to adapt.

First half was a case of Boston doing absolute b*gger all except hope something got carried in the wind. Think they frankly ditched any attempt at gameplan or tactics and decided on whack, whack, throw, whack, whack throw.............wind ended up too strong so they created almost nothing first half. We had 2 great opportunities and scored from one, should have scored from other.

Second half worked in reverse, Boston finally played it better and had an approach, got their goal and it looked like they would push on for the winner. But we dug in, worked harder, scored a good goal and then killed them off and really they never looked like adding to their first goal.

Big big win. I felt this was a massive 7 days for us, playing 2 clubs in the bottom 4 back to back. If we could win both we go onto 26 points and looking comfortable, which would allow us to have a real go at the FA Trophy......first job done today, need to follow it next week.

Flanagan has done it again early season with a sneaky addition.....last year was Adam Morgan, this time its Ritchie Baker who has really helped us going forward.

Not so sure it was a deserved win. We played the much better football and must of had 70 percent possession in the first half but we gifted you two goals with defensive errors.

Second half more even and you grabbed the winner. Decent enough game but don't think either team did enough second half to warrant winning the match.
