Quality win today from us considering the lack of preparation we’ve had due to injuries and a lack of players.

Team started off and showed they’d never played together. With only 1 player starting that started the Rotherham semis game. Coventry were the better team for about 55 mins until we made our subs. Unsurprisingly, bringing on a few first teamers made a big difference. They changed the game and we finished our chances.

Scunthorpe did a job on us.

We were far the better side but a few chances from Scunthorpe was all they needed.

We played some very good stuff but lacked a cutting edge.

Very easy in the end for Peterborough against Bristol Rovers...although with a previous 9 of W7 D2 L0 in our favour it was most probably everyone's banker of the day...decent enough start though even if we never really got out of 1st gear.

You had 10 minutes extra to get a point when we were depleted, I’m not sure how you can really argue you deserved something, a bit embarrassing to say the least.

Deserved a point from the game at the very least, gifted two of the goals to Doncaster through terrible defending and complete lack of concentration.
We got punished for not taking our chances in the first half when Southend were well on top.
Was a good game though and thought the Doncaster keeper played a blinder, plenty of positives for both sides to take.
Notably Southend really attacked the Doncaster right back, likewise Donny did the same to Southend. I agree with their scouting, Demetriou is our weakness defensively.

After the game I stopped to talk to James Coppinger as it's unlikely we'll see him again at this level. Said he's going to see how the season goes before he makes a decision on whether he'll keep playing. I hope he plays at some level as he is still a class act.
Also spoke to the Donny keeper as my son is playing keeper and has decided we now have to speak to and get the autograph of every keeper from the games we attend!
Told him he played exceptionally and maybe should think about not being so good in the return fixture. Very nice guy to speak to.
Good luck to Donny for the season.

Close game for us against Walsall. Bit sloppy at the back but thats to be expected with a new back 5. Shame both their goals came from set pieces. Great for Edwards to score on his return from beating cancer. Have to say Ladapo and Ashley Smith Brown looked handy too. Bring on the season

We looked like a bunch of villagers against a Barnsley team that were bigger, stronger, faster, fitter and better.

Very impressive front two. The left midfielder scored the same goal twice and then they eased off, and you get the impression he would still be scoring that same goal now with everyone at OUFC powerless to stop him if they hadn't.

We offered nothing. Defence looked scared. Midfield missed the team bus and never arrived at the game. The Barnsley centre backs were utterly untroubled and turned up for the second half in smoking jackets, ready for a sit down meal to talk about how great they were.

Honestly I didn't see Wigan last year, but we played Blackburn on the last day of the season and Barnsley were better.

This was Panama vs England stuff.

Looked good today especially 1st half, should have had more goals but 2 was more than enough as our defence stood firm against a pretty toothless Accrington attack

I think Gillingham are in for a rude awakening today.

How'd that go?

If we had got beat, it would hardly have been a rude awakening. We got tubbed 5-1 last week by Colchester. Yes, you heard right. Colchester.

How did you guys find Pompey? Tad better than Div2? Or you lot unlucky?

Hahaha considering you didn’t get in our half first half it’s fair to say we did deserve something from that game just because we didn’t score in injury time doesn’t mean we didn’t deserve a point you clown. Good away win for you lot. Survived the first half and second half you took your chances at the end of the day that was the difference between the sides because if we took our chances first half it would of been game over.

We looked pretty poor especially in the first half on Saturday but a win's a win, brings up to 7 home wins since the end of the 2015/16 season.

With some key players back and hopefully 1 or 2 in I hope Luton away on Saturday is a better yardstick to gauge this season.

Back down to earth with a bump for us after losing at home for the first time in 2018. As the Gills fans on here have said we offered little up front but I thought we improved in the second half. I think a lot of fans (myself included) just thought we'd win this game without too much trouble - perhaps the players thought the same...

I expect a few more comings and goings before the transfer deadline.

Why did you think you would win without much trouble?

Did you forget you’re now in a higher league playing against a Gillingham side who were excellent in the second half of last season?

Their manager said more or less the same post-match - suggested that as we lost our last pre-season game 5-1 at Colchester last week that he and his players more or less expected to turn up and win.

We're not a big name in this division, but we're certainly more than capable of giving anyone a bloody nose if underestimated. But being underestimated by Accrington does smart a little :bg::lol:

That 5-1 defeat was mentioned on our forum and many were saying "we should be beating them" together with us having an unbeaten pre-season we were very confident.
We've been underestimated and proven people wrong ever since we got into the League so I think we had a taste of our own medicine.
Bristol Rovers away then Charlton at home next up - we should be beating the likes of Charlton :bg::bg:

When are football fans going to learn that pre season results mean Jack shit? We only won one and it was quickly forgotten after Saturday. They are for fitness and match practice, not result orientated. Same with some of our lot though, you'd have thought we were relegated after the last friendly. If anyone thinks players give anywhere near 100% then they don't have a clue, trialists can often stand out for that reason.

We didn’t score a single goal against the EFL teams we played pre season so as said before they don’t really count for much as fans

Just bought tickets to watch us at Coventry. The reason I am posting is that I know it's a bit off a ball ache getting to the ground from the train station. Can't really be bothered messing around with getting on and off buses in a place I hardly know. How much is a taxi or are there any other easier ways of getting to the Ricoh?

If you read up, there's a train from Coventry to a station by the ground

Ye no worries mate. Looked on that football grounds guide but it never mentioned anything about trains to the ground.

Really looking forward to that game - are you coming up to this one? I'd imagine Charlton will sell out their allocation.

I think we're overdue another meeting in one of the cups...
I still remember us being 2-0 up with 5 mins left and losing followed by John Coleman cancelling his birthday party!

We won't, no trains from Euston that day so you've gotta go the long way via Leeds and feck that.

What an awayday that was. Losing 2-0 in the 82nd min, to then being 3-2 up 10 mins later - Michael Boulding, Barry Conlon and Peter Thorne the scorers - what a time to be alive.
