The right decision, made about 3 years too late. I also doubt the resign story, I suspect the club finally grew some balls and it's more a case of him being told it's resign or be dismissed, albeit on nice terms.

Massive decision now as to who will take over. Wenger controlled everything, that doesn't work with modern football so a significant change is required at the club. I'd say we might see a drop off in quality from Arsenal in the next 2-3 seasons but that's happened already.

It's also imperative that Wenger leaves with a clean break rather than any moving upstairs bollocks. That will make the new manager's job difficult to say the least.

I'm struggling to think of anyone who is obviously suitable that is currently available or will realistically leave where they currently are to join them.

Yup. Howe or Dyche could be good choices if they want to go the long term route, with the possibility of a short term downturn in quality whilst they adapt. Would be good to see a British manager get it.

When he signed the 2-year contract at the end of last season someone on here suggested both parties knew and agreed he'd only be there for one more year but they gave him 2 years to avoid all the will-he-won't-he again this season.

I thought it sounded plausible at the time and still do now. It's just a feeling really but I (like to) think it's more likely than the decision being made now, be that by the club or the man himself.

Dyche wouldn't suit that role. His defensive brand of football would have them flocking to Arsenal Fan TV before he'd even be appointed. Howe wouldn't be a bad shout, but it's too big a jump for him I think.

Rodgers would be hilarious, such an overrated manager who's hugely padded his reputation in the one horse race that is the SPL. He'd crumble in a league with actual expectations and challengers.

I doubt they'd be able to pry him away, but I'd go for Simone from Atletico Madrid. Failing that, Ancelotti is free to go and get now. He'd be a fine stop gap option.

Has been a great manager and had a great career, over the last few seasons he's still had them winning silverware it's just that Arsenal fans are a set of moaning dick heads. That Arsenal fan tv sums them up. Where they go from here who knows, I expect they'll want to go for a longer term appointment but that's probably not going to bring immediate success, and their moronic 'fans' won't give the new guy that luxury.

Get Eddie Howe, if he wants it. I'd back him to succeed.

Anyway, a decade late really and Arsenal will likely be a serious contender again within five years. Which sucks for us and everyone else hoping to regularly finish in the top four. But then again, it never is the six horse race it's branded to be because of one or more clubs underachieving so provided we do as well as we should, we'll be fine.

I'll miss him, he's a funny guy to have around. Peak was when the big four at the time were managed by Mourinho, Benitez, Ferguson and Wenger himself. Talk about not making them like that anymore.

Tara, Arsene.

Eddie Howe or Sean Dyche would be David Moyes replacing Alex Ferguson all over again.

Howe would suit Arsenal more with their style of football but then if they want to improve the defence Dyche can do that.

Will the new man be the next David Moyes though ?

Howe wouldn't really. United were champions and regular trophy winners, not to mention regulars in the latter stages of the Champions League. Arsenal haven't finished in the top four for two seasons once this season is finished, have a last 16 CL mental block (even if they could get in it) and their trophies consist of a couple of FA Cups in recent years (and before someone posts the usual predictable shit, I'm aware it's more than Liverpool recently).

There will be far more leniencey in terms of the transition because Arsenal are starting from a lower position and there is less expectation, or at least in the short term following Wenger leaving.

Plus Howe is a far better manager than Moyes with far more potential.

I just feel that Arsenal will be able to attract a far bigger name than either Howe or Dyche, despite their recent known struggles and especially if they win the Europa League this season. Just like Liverpool were able to attract Jurgen Klopp when you finished sixth the previous year with a mediocre (for Liverpool’s standards) squad to boot.

Howe and Dyche are also good managers, but they’re good managers for their clubs, just like Moyes was at Everton. Dyche is working wonders at Burnley with that team, but they’re all workhorses. You can’t take the likes of Ashley Westwood, Jack Cork, Stephen Ward and Ashley Barnes to Arsenal, in the same way that Moyes failed by spending big on Fellaini to Man Utd. Therefore, it will be a completely different setting for Dyche, and a transition in management that has seen many before him fail to do.

Meanwhile, Howe has also built a squad that will run through walls for him and is a bit better tactically than Dyche, but that stint at Burnley will always leave doubts and it could be that Bournemouth are helping him as much as he is helping them to be a successful manager and he may not get the same freedom (e.g. transfers etc at Arsenal).

Edit: I’ve just realised you didn’t mention Dyche.:ffs:

Tomas tuchel . Please don't do what united did and bring in a British manager with no winning experience at the top level. Then again would be funny if they did. Shithouse of a club .

A sad day actually, we've took the mick out of him but it will be strange not seeing him there next season. We'll also have to start taking Arsenal seriously again. Don't think next season they'll progress much no matter who they get in as a completely new side is needing built; but after that if things are done well, they'll be back up there.

With Ferguson and now Wenger gone (or about to), it's the end of an era. Now all we need is for Mourinho to fuck off. Rafa can stay though, I like him.

Imma show him this is my stage
And yet you don't make a point to the contrary ??
His whole wikipedia page is a bloody point to the contrary: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Tuchel

He's a hype job. Three weeks ago the "news broke" (read: agent told everyone and someone actually bothered to write it out) that he TURNED DOWN Bayern. This man with a grand total of one (1) trophy to his name turned down one of the biggest jobs in world football with trophies guaranteed and a realistic shot att winning the Champions League (overlooking the fact that there's no reason to believe he can regularly win anything)? No way, José, it's a sales tactic. He tries to make it out as if he's in demand, which seemingly PSG the dumbwits have fallen for. Don't take their seemingly genuine interest as a token of talent in Tuchel though, we're talking 75 billion for round of 16-exits and balls so raisin that Neymar does whatever the fuck he likes. The only winners if it's true is AS Monaco as they'll get a realistic chance of winning the league when Tuchel's "vision" is figured out five games into the season.

Now, I don't really mind Tuchel, I mean sure there might be a great manager in there somewhere beneath the vest and the confused frown but I don't see it. Fact is, he's achieved nothing (bar one DFB Pokal with the greatest Dortmund side of the past 20 years) and he shat himself when he came up against Klopp. He shouldn't be held as a better option than Dyche or Howe because he has shown no signs of being that. And this bothers me because it's media logic abused by a loud mouthed agent and it annoys the fuck out of me that it works.

Did well with Mainz, getting them in to Europe twice (?), signed some good players, developed some good players. Cleared out the deadwood and fixed the mess Klopp left Dortmund in, despite their best players being sold against his wishes (having been promised they wouldn't be sold), signed some outstanding young players. Played wonderful attacking football with a 63% win rate. Watzke fucked up big time by going behind his back and fucked up even more by letting him go. Dortmund are a mess now. Dunno why he's going to PSG though. Fuck PSG.

Ah, and there it is. The old Klopp left Dortmund in a mess chestnut. Tuchel simply can't be discussed without someone coming out with it.

Why are you so defensive about it? It doesn't even involve your club. It's honestly really fucking weird to me. A large part of Tuchel's good work at Dortmund was solving the problems Klopp left him and getting the team back to winning ways. He did really well turning them around, especially considering the high player turnover (and the quality of players that left the club). This is something that actually happened. Of course it gets mentioned when his credentials are discussed.

I don't fully agree with my good mate Beelo mate, I think he's gone a bit over the top in his criticism. But I do agree we need to see more of Tuchel at a high level before any real conclusions can be drawn on his ability.

As for Arsenal, I think they'll go with a relatively big name manager rather than the likes of Howe or Dyche. Ancelotti maybe. Vieira or Arteta hopefully, that'd be fun.

A large part of Tuchel's good work at Dortmund was solving the problems Klopp left him and getting the team back to winning ways. He did really well turning them around,

The side underperformed but still got to Europe despite being in relegation form for half the season; and Klopp obviously realised he did as much as he could with Dortmund so a fresh face was needed. Tuchel came in and did fine to stabilise them for a bit especially after losing more players, but he didn't get on with the powers that be and left as soon as he could. The rot was beginning to set in on Dortmund's strategy, and they now are a shadow of the team they were under Klopp.
