So this game looked fantastic in the initial trailers, but in this last week before its released it was found that the reward system was totally ridiculous.

Those who haven't been following, this is my brief rundown:
After paying ~£50 for a brand new game, EA have included numerous microtransactions. These are often used for cosmetic items in Overwatch and Team Fortress 2 etc. The idea here seems to be you buy an in-game currency which you can unlock characters and weapons upgrades rather than gain them through playing the game.
This is already a bit of an affront to the consumer, and the effect of this is it basically becomes Pay to Win. Pay to Win exists usually in free mobile games, along side advertisements for the producers of the game to make money. So even after paying a premium price for this, they are still using the tricks of free mobile games to squeeze out a bit of extra revenue.
Further to this, it became clear that to unlock a Hero purely through gameplay would require the player to spend upwards of 40 hours playing the game. And on top of that, it limits the amount of credits you can earn through offline gameplay.

They have backed down on a few things, but it is extremely offputting and concerning for the future of games in general.

edit: just realised I typed conspiracy rather than controversy.
I guess the conspiracy comes this morning when they said they are removing all microtransactions for the time being. I'm sure they will be introduced soon after all their Christmas sales.

It's a bunch of shit, and disappointing because BF2 looked so promising in the early goings. They looked like they'd fixed a lot of the things that were wrong with the last one, funnily enough one of those things being a blatant rip off money grab attempt where they gave us half a game and expected people to pay for a shitload of DLC... and then they went and tried to rip people off even more this time around!

FUCKERS.

I just want a good modern Star Wars game that isn't trying to drain my wallet. This is seemingly too much to ask.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
EA has been doing that for a long time.....clearly you log never used to buy the golf games which used to be great.....then you would get less and less courses included in the game and numerous extras you could 'purchase' once that happened i started to lose interest in game and stopped.

think wrestling games have done similar also.

I refuse to pay for games that require further payments to avoid completing the game being virtually impossible, or at the very least doubling the required playing time. This is just the latest example. Unfortunately, as I've touched on in the Things We Hate thread, this type of scamming bullshit is becoming more prevelant and will only get worse.

What makes it even worse is the cost of these games on release. £50-£60 before you have even paid for the additional content? They can fuck off. I'll do what I always do, wait 12-18 months and get it for less than £20 when it comes on offer on PSN, depending on how much it needs additional content to be playable.

I've said it before, downloadable content has ruined the gaming industry, the only way it will improve if there is a mass exodus of either the game the first place or the post sale content. But, unfortunately, there are too many gullible idiots.

Sports games were EA's training ground with regards to in-game purchases. Ultimate Team being so popular encourages them to try it on even more. I've always let it slide because UT is only a small part of Fifa games. Really when they're pulling in so much cash from that, they were bound to try to export it to other platforms.

What annoys me is they stripped career mode down and tried to cover it with transfer negotiations
