Best awayday in League Two?

What do you rate as the best awayday?

With Orient now relegated the only London trip is Barnet for beers in Central London beforehand.

Luton always have a good atmosphere and their away end is is full of character give me that over an identikit soulless stadium any day of the week.

Carlisle for me, great pub stop on the way old school ground and usually not a trip for the happy clappers and the it's my seat brigade you get at higher profile awaydays.

For me the restrictions on pre match drinking have spoilt our local derby at Mansfield. Strange really as they hate chesterfield it's more a rivalry out of circumstance than outright hatred.

Crewe, Barnet and Orient were my top 3 last season. Notts is good but I do that every other weekend anyway.

Notts is a decent one, Chesterfield not bad either. Had a good weekend in Lincoln not so long ago too.

Notts away is the best for me, decent pubs, their fans are decent so not likely to enter a war zone and we usually take decent numbers. (Decent away end too).

Chesterfield and Wycombe are alright too. Looking forward to Mansfield too as only played there once in 25-30 odd years and from what I recall it was decent when we went there in 2003.

I'd probably go with Notts, I've never been to Meadow Lane but I've been out in Nottingham before and it's the only really big city club in the division. Lincoln and Exeter I hear though are nice places to visit and wouldn't mind doing those some day.

As for Barnet, I'm not sure, I've been out in London before, and had some good nights out but you spend a fortune, takes an age to get around if you're staying near to Barnet, I can't imagine it really feels like an away day because you aren't mingling with the home fans, and your contingent doesn't exactly make an impression on the local nightlife, and it's not so head and shoulders above the likes of Nottingham that all that expense and inconvenience feels like a worthy price to pay.

Maybe for us, Morecambe ranks fairly highly, it's not as bad as people make out it is, nice sea air and beach, or you can head into Lancaster and we take good numbers.

Notts is a great day out for us but not far so not a proper away day, we take that many the locals don't bother us.

Have to say Crewe was decent Saturday no hassle and ground is a weird design but decent.

It's Notts County. We're probably alright if you get us early on or late in the season, but Cleethorpes is pretty grim through late Autumn and Winter.

None of my favourite trips are in L2 any more. Single best away trip for me was Hartlepool (weekend trip, to Newcastle.) Used to like doing Brizzol Rovers, Portsmouth, Sheffield clubs, Orient etc.

Many of the grounds in L2 this year aren't near anywhere good to drink/eat, e.g. Wycombe and Yeovil are on industrial estates. At least there is nothing as awful as Oldham in the middle of January this year.

Notts County for me too. Enjoyed Exeter last season.

Shame we lost Blackpool and Hartlepool, two decent trips.

Depends if you mean the football ground or town or the whole experience. Have always liked Cambridge, nice city and a good local game atsmosphere in a tight little ground. Coventrys stadium is awful for atsmopshere a typical souless new stadia. Highfield Road was a lot better. Notts County is fine for the pre match experience and the stadium ain't bad. Problem is the stadium is too big for the size of the home support which affects the atmosphere.

Cambridge definitely has the best selection of pubs, pain in the arse walking to the ground from most of them though and that road is a nightmare before/after the game if you opt for a taxi. Also the end behind the goal is miles away from the pitch which is a bit shit (the bit down the side is great though when they give it to us).

Vegans, hippies, eco warriors, leftists and so on. Plus, or so I'm informed, their owner also likes to help out the Labour Party with donations every now and then. The St. Pauli of English football IOW, although that coveted title will be in jeopardy if Dulwich Hamlet ever make it to the FL.

Then of course, there's THAT HILL, which of course does wonders for aiding one in getting rid of that protruding beer belly and unsightly man boobs.

I have been to around half of the grounds in this division, admittedly only a couple since starting to follow Rovers, and the two that stand our for me are Carlisle and Exeter. I rate this on the friendliness of the locals I encountered during my visit and the general feel of the ground itself, little or no evidence of psychopathic idiots with violence on their minds at either of them. Went into a pub near the ground in Exeter and it was pretty welcoming, the locals seemed genuinely pleased to see opposition supporters, not always the case as a travelling fan. At Carlisle I stopped in a chippy on the way back to the station, to fortify myself for the long journey home, the lady serving must have taken a shine to my cheeky smile and friendly demeanour as she gave me the biggest piece of fish on display...accompanied by "you look like you could do with a bit of feeding up!". To be fair, and give a balanced opinion, all the others have been fine too...regardless of any local rivalry or otherwise.

Dave Drew (think his role was vice chairman actually) only stood down so as to not have a conflict of interest over the new ground, and he was always a supporter long before it was going to get him any sort of voter brownie points. Then there's the Sea Shepherd logo on the shirts as well. Used to see a couple of their staff at away games round London.

I would highly rate FGR as an away day although I'm not sure how good it would be in winter. In winter, I'd say that bigger city clubs such as Exeter City, Cambridge Utd and Notts County (NB I have never been there) would be more appealing as away trips than somewhere like Nailsworth.
Stevenage would certainly be near the bottom for most League 2 club fans although for me the fact that it is the nearest fixture that we have to a derby gives it a lot more appeal.

Can't really split Carlisle and Notts, both with decent pubs and decent grounds, also easily done by train.

Got to say always thought I'd enjoy Crewe as an away day, it's a bit of a dump as a town but plenty of pubs near by, don't get much trouble, plenty of pubs close to the ground, and the train station is in spitting distance. The ground isn't the worst and over the last few years you got a gift wrapped 3 points.

Nobody's mentioned Swindon - bastards. Proper ground in town, easy walk from the station, loads of pubs, generally no hassle from home fans (although don't quote me on that).

Is that stripper still performing in the Wycombe pub. Not the same one as the last time I went hopefully - tits round her ankles by now.

David Drew got back in at the past election - he and the Tory bloke have been fighting over the seat since 1997 and the majority has never been that big when either has one.

I loved Notts as an away day until my last visit when I was chucked out for, well I'm still at a loss what it was for, by some proper jumped up stewards. Although I more than made up for it by going back to Hooters to down a few jugs and avoid watching us get tanked 5-0.

Crewe has always been a decent away day, I'm ashamed to say I've not yet done it on the train yet though.

I've always liked going to Yeovil, especially as I usually get there early so manage to get a drink in the marquee they erect.
