Something to do with having an original copy of the Magna Carta in the Cathedral.
I love the absurdity and sheer randomness of bye laws in this country.

Sunday coming up, I'm off to Chester with my crossbow.....

It was a strange atmosphere when I went to watch us at Highfield Road as it was your first season out of the Prem and your fans wanted Strachan out.
So much so in fact that before the game we were in a pub chatting to some Coventry fans and they all said they hoped Grimsby would win so Strachan would get the sack!
We duly obliged 1-0 (despite you hitting the post twice late on, proper hanging on we were) and Strachan was sacked that weekend, no need to thank us. :bg1:

I vaguely remember this game...

My favourite away game in L2 would be Port Vale, Titanic brewery tap the Bulls Head is a classic matchday pub with fantastic beers and ciders.
If i had to take the misses to a game it would be FGR(bast@rds lol), gobsmackingly beautiful part of the country.
By far the worst venue would be Stevenage.

I enjoyed my trip to Vale too when we played them in the cup 4 or 5 years ago, their away end generated a cracking atmosphere even with only around 450 - 500 of us in it.
On the downside I dropped off the wife and daughter in Stoke to go shopping (she thought there would be plenty of choice for them with it being a City) before me and my lad went to the game, and my wife is still having nightmares about it.........

Oh and the area around Vale Park being a complete shithole made it feel just like being at Blundell Park. :bg1:

She must've walked around with her eyes closed then if she couldn't find anywhere to shop nearby. There's tons of choices. 10-15 minute bus journey to Hanley from Stoke, or Tunstall a bit further, the other side of Burslem.

I've been to Stoke before, I'm assuming he didn't realise Hanley was the real city centre.

Sounds suspect

I don't know, that one sounds a little suspect to me. I can't believe there would ever have been a law saying you can't have a casino in the same city as a copy of the Magna Carta.

Swindon has to be the worst. Ground is a total hole.

Best away in the league is Carlisle for me hands down. Great pubs and a good city. Had a blast there last season! Lots of brilliant aways in this league like Cambridge, Mansfield, Accrington and Newport too!

Worst away is comfortably Barnet. Rip off to get in and just doesn't feel like a proper away day to me.

Notts county is always a good day out for us, this year they've managed to plan it on the same day as paddies day lol.

Exeter is a good trip as is Carlisle

Chesterfield is good for pubs also, falls on the same date as a mates 30th so we're all getting taxis in and sneaking under the radar.

Disappointed that the comfy leather sofas have been removed from Barnet's away bar.

How on Earth have they snuck that one past Notts police? That's like having Boca v River Plate in Belfast on the same day as the July 12th Orange Marches.

Notts police have no sense at all.

The other year the game couldn't take place on a Saturday as forest were at home, so they moved it to a Friday night, absolutely carnage. So 90% of the 2900 or so took the day off and got leathered. They can actually be pretty useful.

After yesterday Grimsby is my new favourite away day. Proper away end, walk along the sea front to the town where there a variety of different pubs. Decent fish and chips too.

Many may disagree, but I think it was proper old school, absolutely loved it.

I'll disagree, it's a absolute shit hole full of people trying to start a bit of hassle, it fucking stinks too.

Bit like Mansfield if you venture to the town centre actually, although the smell is better.

That decision was as ridiculous as the consequences were inevitable. There was complete dismay when it was announced as a Friday.

Just cos you get beat every time!

Better than some soulless bowl in the middle of nowhere

No one likes the Ricoh, but an away end with no roof is an absolute no for me. Kills the atmosphere. Yeovil away end would be brilliant if they put a roof on it, same with many others.

Ah, well. Things are afoot, apparently, to upgrade the ground. Some geezer whose company was involved in the new Wembley and Spurs' new ground has come on board.

But you are right - the ground is a disgrace. Or at least the 2 ends are. The Town End is to all intents exactly the same as when I attended my first game in 1968. Putting a roof on the bank has been blighted my residents complaints for donkey's years.

Anyway, I'll believe when I sit in it!

Don't really see the problem. Looks a decent ground to me. Don't know what the surrounding area is like, looks a bit suburban but not in the middle of nowhere like some.

The Swindons and Coventrys of this world really don't know they're born.

It is not a terrible ground, but the roofless away end spoils it. As I said with Yeovil, if you put a roof on it, it would be a top stand.

Tbh, there wasn't really any bother - we had a great laugh with some county fans that day - there isn't a rivalry in any aggressive sense.

There does unfortunately seem to be a bit of bother between the younger fans, and this appears to have been more from the county fans (though the smoke bombs from mansfield last season was daft)

We've not got a stand down one side of our pitch, i'm sure your ground is more than good enough
