He was in charge at Grimsby for just 154 days.

Worst Grimsby manager Garry Hill has ever seen at Blundell Park.

Baffling. Confirms bust up behind the scenes. Very worried about next season now.

Bignot. There's got to be a PUN in there somewhere.

Is this what you hinted at the other day then, GG? This is bizarre. Something must have happened behind the scenes or Fenty has someone lined up. Wenger will be out this summer and a top 4 spot down here could well swing him a much needed promotion on his CV.

Seriously though, Bignot's whole remit was changed in January to bring players in early, to get them settled so that we'd be more balanced in the summer and have less rebuilding to do. That's how it sounded to me when they were feeding us the "these players are here earlier than expected" line, at least. Will be a summer of rebuilding now probably.

Weird how Hurst gets season after season under pretty intense fan pressure at times but Bignot who, for a Town manager with his team in mid-table, had the fans on side for the most part (quite how long that was gonna last is an altogether different discussion) gets about a third of a calendar year. Okay, I think nobody will argue that Hurst is the better manager, however that was because HE GOT LOADS OF FUCKING TIME. There's less pressure and expectation on Bignot?!

Gobsmacked and quite frankly I'm fuming. Has to be something behind the scenes because if this is based purely on results it will be one of the most disgraceful decisions I've experienced from this club and there's been a few of them.

Fucked off well and truly. Was optimistic about next season but who's going to be in charge now, Russell fucking Slade I imagine.

You looked good against us, and surely a solid mid-table showing without any danger at all throughout the season of relegation should be deemed fair.

We finished 11th in our opening season back and was thoroughly delighted.

Whereas I hope i'm not doing Grimsby a dis-service, surely if you'd said before the season you'd be 16 points clear of the bottom 2 with 5 left to play most would have bitten their hand off?

Yep. I was told before the game on Saturday that he was getting sacked on Sunday, so this has actually come 24 hours later than I imagined (probably down to the weekend win). He was acting very bizarrely on Saturday though, sitting on the advertising boards watching the pre-match warm-up on his own before standing in the middle of the centre circle about an hour after full time talking with one of his coaching staff.

It appears he's pissed off one too many people behind the scenes. Basically, I wouldn't believe a word of the club statement.

Absolutely fucking ridiculous decision if this is purely on results and were we are as the statememt seems to indicate.

Have the board learnt nothing from 6 years of non league? Patience despite fan pressure and building a side led us to were we are and a solid mid table finish, with signs of building for the future.

Yet we sack them for what?

All communication from Fenty and the board this season has told me they have learnt nothing from why we originally went down and why it took so long to come back and if this is how he is going to carry on we will be back there very soon.

I know some fans didn't like his formation and team selection but the vast majority of those still weren't calling for his sacking and willing to give him next season to prove whether he was right or wrong.

I'm hearing that unrest in the dressing room played a part in this and a number of senior players had a meeting with JF about it last week.

Would like to know who the senior players are. Would guess Gowling, Disley, Mckeown and several others. Disgraceful if true.

Gowling, McKeown and those out on loan / in the reserves understandable but is it Bignot's fault they're blatantly not good enough? I'll be distraught if Disley is involved. In hindsight it seems like having permission to reassemble the squad mid-season has been his downfall, which makes it all the more worse.

If we started next season poorly and looked like we might struggle I could totally understand dismissing him in October time when his 6 month rolling contract would be up again. This is ludicrous however. He's brought in some quality players and gets repaid with the sack. All because of some players who wouldn't have been here in a few weeks time.

I've also just been told this.

Looks like Russell Slade will be appointed fairly quickly.

Could be about to get worse as Slade is already favourite for the job.

Definitely player power or he pissed off the board on a personal level.

Grimsby weren't targeting an instant promotion this season (they may have said it but that's to appease fans more than anything) and they've had an inconsistent yet decent season for their standards. You get clubs at this level who've come up from non-league arrogantly declaring that they'll get back to back promotions. But ever since promotion/relegation came in in 1987 only 9 out of the 41 teams promoted have managed to achieve that so it's quite tough to achieve on a modest budget. But I genuinely believe they were content with a mid-table finish clear of relegation after 6 years of Conference hell.

The mind boggles...

Wow. Couldnt believe it when I heard this?! Wont take long for Bignot to get another job.

Knowing Sam Jones character I wouldnt be surpirsed if he played a role in this.

What exactly were they expecting in the first season back up, particularly after selling their best player half way through it!?!

Could you elaborate? I'd be very surprised to hear he was involved but interested to know what he's actually like. He's had a couple of radio interviews and seemed like an intelligent guy. He's been our best player past few weeks and one of only 4 regulars in the side.

When he was here there were vicious rumours around that he was to sign for Barrow. After which the quality of his performances dropped off a cliff. I have it on very good authority he refused to sign a contract with us (so we could get a fee) despite us having an very good record of applying players to leave with no problems. Negotiations with Barrow then hit a snag due to the distance involved which is peculiar considering he went on to sign for Gateshead. His performances continued to get worse until he got himself sent off for violent conduct for the final 3 weeks of the season so he could on his ass. He appeared a rebellious type of player. And I believe I read somehwere he did similar during his time at Gateshead. A very good footballer but not the most loyal by any means.

Doubt he'd be kicking off shortly after arriving about the guy who has given him a chance in the FL and letting him start every week.
