Let's hope this has a happy ending and is just a mix-up of some sort. Police and Coastguard are concerned about a small plane that went missing overnight near the Channel Islands, reportedly carrying two people. One of whom it's thought to be Cardiff's recent £15m record signing Emiliano Sala, an Argentinian forward signed from Nantes over the weekend.

It's not looking good and unfortunately I can only see it ending one way. French police have confirmed that Sala was on board. Fingers crossed for a positive ending to this story!

That's tragic.
It really doesn't look very good but I pray there's a miracle about to happen.
My best wishes to all on that plane and their families.

I was only on about plane crashes today whilst I was on the way to work. I hate flying over water. Doesn’t look good for the people on that plane.

Whole footballing world in France obviously in shock. A horrible, horrible accident. Not wanting to say RIP before it's confirmed but yeah it's not looking good. Monaco have done a minute's silence this evening for the French Cup game which I find premature personnally but that's me.

Some horrible comments on Twitter of course. c***.

Seems the Police and Coastguard have called off the search. Saying in a statement that they "are no longer actively searching, although the incident remains open and they will be broadcasting to all vessels and aircraft in the area to keep a look out for any trace of the aircraft"

:(

Really awful news.

I thought there might be a glimmer of hope when there were reports of flares being sighted off a small island near to where they lost contact.

For some reason, I really thought they'd find him. I don't know why but I guess you never think of the English channel as such a large body of water. You pass over it in 10 minutes so you don't even really think about it.

Said this yesterday to someone. It’s only a small area of water really, so imagine how hard it is to find planes that go down in the larger open waters. One of my worst fears is coming down in the ocean.

Exactly. Where was it recently (somewhere in Asia) where a plane went down in water roughly 30m deep just off the beach of a city?

Jakata , Indonesia, I think you’re on about. If you are still conscious when you hit the water the impact kills you anyway. You may as well hit concrete. I usually get half pissed before I get on a plane anyway, so that eases my worries.

not to sound disrespectful but what happens to that 15 million Cardiff paid for him?

Well I guess they never paid.

Surely it’s all paid once a contract is signed & pending a medical?

It was signed. He went back to France to say his goodbyes and then was on his way back to his first training session.

Maybe the clubs will donate some of the fee to his family as some sort of geasture ?

I’m probably going to come across as a right bastard, but I hope not they don’t.

I’m sure he has life insurance & im sure they have plenty of money anyway. After all, it’s nothing down to the clubs anyway - I believe it was the agents booking? (Not that it matters anyway)

Been tweeted that the pilot was working in the heating industry and spent his weekends being a DJ. Not sure how accurate it is though.

That wouldn't necessarily mean anything though other than he might be a private chartered pilot only.

Very sad, only ever flown three times and part of that is through fears.

No fair point.

Was just thinking what happens to the fee agreed - will they just go ahead with the transaction so to speak?

Apparently Cardiff have hired lawyers and investigators into the incident now and the transfer fee has been frozen pending investigation
