That was as easy as it could have been for City, Steaua played right into their hands way too open, and were pushing way too many men forward. Was like when you put the overload option on football manager, was bizarre. Some lovely goals though from City and it could have been any score, expect the home leg to be going through the motions as they are in the group stages now. Other results tonight, Ajax held at home by Rostov, Gladbach 3-1 winners over in Switzerland against Young Boys, Dinamo Zagreb draw 1-1 with RB Salzburg, and Copenhagen take a 1-0 lead to Cyprus next week against Apoel.

Is this the official account of Steaua?

Pathetic, really pathetic. Same bad losers like Hope Solo from the US Women Team.

What's this crap with "Club with no History?"

Steaua founded 1947 as an artificial communist club.
Manchester City : founded 1880 (as West Gorton Saint Marks, since 1894 as Manchester City)

So, which is the Football Club with no History?

Congratulations to Man City and to Gladbach.

My bad. Checking twitter it appears to be a fans account, not the clubs official account.

Sorry

No need for a sorry. I am not so familiar with twitter that's why I asked. But even if it's only a fans account it's a pathetic guy who posts this and a bad loser.

I haven't seen the Steaua vs City match because I watched the Young Boys Bern vs Gladbach match but I've read that Steaua was not only hopelessly outscored yesterday, no, even their planned choreography before the match, which should remind to their sensational win against Barca in the European Cup Final 30 years ago, was manipulated by fans of rival club Dinamo. The Choreo Text says "Doar Dinamo Bucuresti" (Only Dinamo Bucharest). Not the best day for Steaua yesterday :D

Full time, a hell of a match that. I wonder how many 'outstandings' and 'character' soundbites Brendan will spout!

I'll never do that, but I like seeing Celtic in the CL. Rodgers had them running around frantically that second half and it was almost like 13/14 all over again. They'll be great to watch under him.

Celtic should now advance to the group stages, although conceding 2 Goals at home against such a team is a bit disappointing. But nonetheless I am already congratulating for reaching the CL (please, don't embarrass me now in the 2nd leg ;). Well done!

Hopefully Celtic will be drawn into a group with a german team because it would be great to visit Celtic Park again.
I would prefer Dortmund or Gladbach, not Bayern or Bayer Leverkusen.
I don't travel with those two clubs because I can't stand them

Good result and performance from Celtic last night they look to have improved under Rodgers, thought Hapoel were quite poor actually quite surprised they managed to knock Olympiacos out in the last round. Shame Celtic fans couldn't keep their political views to their selves though. Other results include Roma getting a 1-1 draw over in Portugal against Porto, Villareal were defeated 2-1 at home by Monaco, Ludogorats Razgrad got a comfortable 2-0 win against Plzen in Bulgaria, while Dundalk were beaten 2-0 at home by Legia Warsaw.

You don't like Leverkusen because of Bayer?

Monaco got a good win at Villarreal 2-1 but it could have been much better. Villarreal just swaped managers and the players were unfit but Monaco let the Spaniards back into the game after scoring a penalty. They then didn't do anything in the second half and scored a rather fortunate goal. Monaco should progress to the group stage after this result. If they do, it will be the first time 3 French clubs will be there since 2011/12.

Why can't you stand them then? Small-time club with no fans?

I don't give a damn if they have no fans (in fact they have quite a few). It's because of the UEFA Cup 2007/08 (later renamed Europa League) where we played against Bayer in the 1/8 Final and lost due to away goal rule (0-1, 3-2).

Yes, the HSV played at that time in Europe ;). Leverkusen advanced to the 1/4 final only to fail immensively at home with 1-4 against later winner Zenith St.Petersburg (and in the 2nd leg they won 1-0). It's always the same with Bayer. They have their moments but when it counts they fail (in the League or in Europe).

No disrespect to Zenith but I am sure that the HSV would have beaten them at that time. It's so tragic because it was never easier to win the UEFA Cup than in this season and if the HSV had won it, it would be one of the very few european clubs who won all 3 European Cups.
Glasgow Rangers were in the Final, too (and to the great joy of the HSV Fans they eliminated Werder Bremen on their way to the final) and it would be a final of friends because HSV and Glasgow Rangers have a friendly relationship since the 70's.

To make a long story short: I don't have problems when the HSV loses against better teams from England or Spain in European competition but I can't stand when they lose against a German Team (and Italian of course).

btw: It was one of the few seasons where Bayern didn't play in the Champions League. They had their off year and played only in the UEFA Cup, too (Bundesliga Champion 2006/07 was VfB Stuttgart)

You can't stand Bayer just because they beat you? I dread to think how much you must hate Bayern!

I'm teasing of course and get the implications that this game had (I remember PSG being quite close to a European final despite being a strong contender for relegation in those days) but you usually hate a club for deeper historical reasons. To me, Leverkusen will always be the mickey mouse of the ruhr-gebiet. A nothing club in a nothing town funded by a massive company. A shame when you have clubs like BvB, Schalke or Köln next door (3 great and massive clubs).

Hate is maybe a too strong word for it. I don't like Leverkusen (and Bayern). And yes, it is based on this particular UEFA Cup Match.

Just a bit of "nitpicking" here from me but Leverkusen isn't technically a "Ruhrpott City", it belongs to the "Metropol-Region Rhein-Ruhr ". The traditionally "Ruhrpott" is this

edit: Sorry, for the big Off Topic here ;)

Celtic have made the group stages for the first time in a few years, they lost 2-0 on the night but go through 5-4 on aggregate over in Israel against Hapoel Beer Sheeva, big result for the club and Scottish football. Dundalk got a very creditable 1-1 draw in Poland against Legia Warsaw but go out 3-1 on aggregate and will play in the Europa League. Monaco progressed against Villarreal, Porto were comfortable winners in Italy against Roma while a draw in Plzen was enough for Ludogorets to make the group stages.

Delighted for Rodgers and Kolo (who'll get to play in the CL this season after all! ). I watched it and they more than rode their luck, but somehow did it, and are back in the elite competition.
