He was a better player when they originally had him and didn't spunk 90 mill to get him back!

Also, Alexis Sanchez. Half a million per week...

10 games. 1 goal.

Sanchez makes Torres to Chelsea look like a good deal.

Sanchez is world class, Premier League proven and capable of lifting a poor side single-handedly. He's shown all of this very recently. He's also not on £500k a week.

It's Pogba that I fail to see the point of. £50k a week would seem extortionate considering his performances and that's without mentioning his previous world-record fee.

Hey Livercool.

The arrogance the English media demonstrated towards Sevilla was astounding, they are a team above Man Utd in the European rankings.

Always good to see them put back in their place. Pending the result tonight, looks like La Liga is still the gold standard and much better than the Premier League.

He's all of those things. But not so far in a United shirt and 10 games with almost nothing to show is a poor return for someone of his ability. And cost.

Mourinho's desperation to shoehorn Sanchez into the team no matter what really didn't help last night. He should have been subbed, or not played at all and Martial given a chance from the start instead. He was terrible and did nothing. But saying that, it wouldn't have changed the way United played. Like I said before Sevilla scored their first, it's almost as if United thought a draw was enough to progress. Bloody strange game of football.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
He wasn't really bought for football reasons, though, was he?

Sanchez has negatively affected the balance of the line up. I said it after his first few games and it's continued to this point. Pushing him onto the left when Martial and Rashford are far more effective whilst cutting in from the left nullifies one of United's greatest assets. Sanchez was dreadful for most of last night and Rashford instantly caused problems when he switched to the left around the 70th minute. United's best performance of the year, just last weekeed, was due to Rashford playing on the left. Sanchez doesn't need to play there, he was just as good if not better on the right for Arsenal.

I don't doubt that Sanchez will come good, but he shouldn't have been shoehorned into a team that already lacks a cohesive attacking plan before he was comfortable in the line up.

Also, after McTominay's recent displays and the high praise he's received from Mourinho, I have no idea why he played Fellaini and then brought on Pogba. Fellaini was bad, whilst there is something clearly wrong with Pogba at the moment. He was one of the best players in the league for the first few months of the season, he's lost all confidence and composure in the mean time. Why not play the in form McTominay instead of Fellaini who was a big distraction all night? I lost count of the balls looped into the box for him instead of kept on the deck. Possession given away again and again. Fucking tragic.

Opposing the pedestrianisation of Norwich city centre!!!!
Mourinho always talks his usual bollocks in post match interviews when they lose and some Man U fans seem happy to roll with it because 'he's deflecting criticism from the players', but last night was different. He really overstepped the mark with the Real Madrid and Porto remark. United being dumped out the CV is obviously most gratifying, but the manner in which they capitulated is infuriating for their fans who were accustomed to seeing their team play and with with flair and panache under baconface. Mourinho's style of anti-football is just painful to watch if you're a Man U fan. Long may it continue..

Interesting he didn't include Man U in that rant.

In fact really he just talks about Man City worrying the big teams...

Well true to a point but they will be concerned about Madrid/Barca too.

Hugh didn't get a bite on his first try in post #1054, so he gave it another go. You fell for it.

I had a quick look on Red Cafe for a laugh. Judging by what is on there, Mourinho could be sacked tomorrow and fans wouldn't give a fuck.

The majority of football fans have been wise to Mourinho for some time, and I reckon the same applies to the majority of United fans deep down. But it's great to see them finally start to wake up to the bullshit the guy is full of and talk about it publicly. He's genuinely regressed as a manager in the last 5 years. Even speaking as a Liverpool fan it's shocking to see a team of United's pedigree play the shite he has them playing.

After bringing 5 teams in the knockout stages I had hoped that the PL will break the dominance of La Liga in the Champions League in the k.o stages.

First try: ManU failed. That was lame especially with lacklustre Pogba coming in. This guy looked as if he can't be arsed. Very embarassing. Second try today: Chelsea... but tbh here I can't bring myself to keep my fingers crossed for the Londoners (it's the same whenever Arsenal is playing in Europe). I want to see the genius of Messi in the quarterfinals.

I'll be watching the match today because the Besiktas vs Bayern match isn't interesting anymore after the 1st leg.

1st try was actually Spurs. Who also failed.

Just seems to me like the mentality of many Liverpool fans is "Doesn't matter that they beat us, Sevilla beat them so somehow we're better!"

Well, not really:

"They took the game to Juventus. They were so much better that they were scary. For me, that told us the Premier League is right up there.

"Our clubs played at the pace of the Premier League with power and pace, and teams couldn't live with us."

Hugh didn't get a bite on his first try in post #1054, so he gave it another go. You fell for it.

I hadn't seen the article at that point.

Maybe you agree with Merson? I can find plenty of sycophantic articles about Spurs first leg performance.

...are they bragging about drawing with Sevilla? Or losing to them in the Europa League final?

Well we just are better epic, we've balanced a decent league campaign to look good to remain top four whilst doing well in Europe; whilst you lot bottled it over these last two legs, all the while buying up the latest superstars for ludicrous money, and getting them to play rugby.

You beat us in a match for 2nd place in a one horse race. From Liverpool's perspective it would have been nice to win it as in all games with United but far more important for United was last night's game. I've actually seen more than one United fan use Saturday's win as a consolation for the loss to Savilla and even seen one fan suggest they viewed Saturday's game as being more important. Quite amusing.

As for me personally, I simply find it hilarious the predicament United fans find themselves in. On paper 2nd spot to City this season should be something to build on. But I can't imagine a single United fan who's old enough to remember what they played like ten years ago who could possibly be happy with the insipid, defensive shit you have served up to you more often than not these days. Worse though is that there is no realistic replacement so you're stuck with him.

What ludicrous money have we spent recently other than Lukaku?

Obviously the Sevilla game mattered much more than the Liverpool game to us, but what I don't understand is Liverpool fans who seem to be placing the Sevilla game above the Liverpool game in importance to them.

Obviously there have been matches like the Sevilla one where we have been very poor, played for a 0-0 and miserably failed, but I still think Mourinho is our best manager since Ferguson, we've also had a lot of games where we've won convincingly and played well.

You don't think anything Mourinho has done since he joined 18 months ago can be counted as recent? He's spent £300m in that time.

Not heard or read about a single Liverpool fan who would have preferred United lost last night rather than against us on Saturday. Where have you read this?

You say Mourinho is the best manager since Ferguson left as if it means something. You've only had another two and one of those was Moyes.

I guess it comes down to what United fans are willing to accept. Personally, I never thought I'd see the day where United fans would accept a manager who's first instinct is to prevent the opposition scoring at the expense of his own team getting the ball in the net. But saying that, I think less and less of them are accepting that. And results like last night will accelerate that attitude towards him.

I don't think he's vastly overspent on any individual player.

I'd rather have LVG or Ferguson (obviously) than Mourinho's 0-0 play, but when we don't play for a draw we play better than we have since 12-13.
