League 2 or the Checkatrade?

The Checkatade thingy.

League 2, is proper football, part of the established English professional pyramid. I do register non-league Football, and it’s obviously a legit (albeit lowly) competition but, us Notts fans, have never watched games there on a regular basis#stain.

Probably a good thing especially when you consider some of our recent results against part timers in the glorious FA cup!

We took more to Scunthorpe last night than we used to take to Grimsby in the league. That's embarrassing. We'll probably only have a couple of hundred more at Port Vale this weekend.

The excited newbies could be excused last season but there's no excuse this year. Even Cowley has come out and pretty much admitted he won't be taking the competition seriously.

Don't know where Cowley has admitted he won't taking the competition seriously? He has admitted League is the priority but, if recall correctly, we made more changes for Carabao at Blackburn than we did on Tuesday against Scunthorpe.

We have some sterling talent in the squad at the moment (Kellan Gordon, Scotty Wharton, Bernard Mensah, Chapman etc) so a chance to see them play is good enough for me-

If we go out of the Checkatrade then so be it- that Cowley is focussed on promotion as a priority is undoubted. But the team he put out on Tuesday, in no way, would suggest he didn't go out to win.

Middlesbrough U21 at home on Tuesday... considering they took 9 fans last week to Walsall and our fans after yesterday are even less likely to attend a third home tie in 7 days this should easily overtake last Tuesday as a record low attendance... possibly no more than 500.

Loved it when we won it but it’s farcical, we get three times more for pre season friendly games!

6 changes tonight for us against Middlesbrough U21.

Actually looks stronger on paper than Saturday! Gibbons back from injury, Joyce and Miller start.

Legge and Hannant the only fit players not involved at all. Conlon starts too.

Surprised at that.

Glad gibbons is starting as it gives us some width down the right side. Hopefully dodds and miller score. I only live 2 minutes walk from vales ground but arnt attending the match as im not really bothered about this tournament but giving the result saturday we could do with winning to get the confidence back in the side and supporters behind the club and not booing ect.

2-0 with 554 in attendance. Just 18 travelling Boro fans.

Lowest ever crowd at Vale Park breaking a seven day long record.

Watched the stream, was like a training game, they were nowhere near ready for men’s football and it was slow, we never got out of gear and they were just happy it felt not to get a pasting.

Pointless.

Through though with a game to spare...

454 at Gigg with 18 from Leicester.

Just seen Vale’s attendance, seems oddly similar.

Burton and Boro under 8's are now eliminated from our group , last game in the group is now a dead duck.
Any point to this farce?
Really excited about the draw and getting to the knockout phase. Might top 1000 if we are at home.

I wonder... our chairman said after the last match against Newcastle at home that it cost the club more to open the ground and made a loss.

There was mention on claiming compensation due the match being forced on the club, yes we lost and had we won we would have got 20k but even then it wouldn’t have been enough to make the game worthwhile financially.
In my eyes when we come up against a youthside the opposition club should pay a set fee, after all we are giving their youth a “game” against a first team which they’d have to pay for under any other circumstance to get this level.

Interesting point and the commentators debated this yesterday during our game.

If we say of the 550 or so there last night say 15% are kids so for arguments sake 460 adults paying £10 then £4600.00 inc VAT gate receipts plus programmes and refreshments the club probably made about £5000 max last night (apparently £4 from ifollow goes to the club too so maybe a few paid that) once you take out the food/programme cost price to the club.

Once you take into account the stewarding and staffing costs it probably didn't make us much money at all if anything. I dont understand why segregate the away fans for this either?

18 Boro fans in a 4500 seater stand is ridiculous! Assume we had some catering in there on offer too!

I believe there is an ‘understanding’ that the EFL will compensate clubs if they make a loss. I think (although could be wrong) that last season it was actually written in as a rule but then it was changed to basically be discretionary I.e. if they thought the clubs were actively encouraging low crowds then they wouldn’t get compensated, but if they were seen to be marketing the game in the right manner then they would get compensation to balance out the loss.

Could be completely wrong though, often am (especially at home)

From the Trophy Rules:

26.5 The Home Club will bear any losses (if any) incurred in the hosting of any group Match. The League shall however be empowered to reimburse (out of the Competition Pool, and on a pro-rata basis where the Competition Pool is insufficient to meet all admitted claims) EFL Clubs for losses incurred in hosting Matches in the group stage only, at its absolute discretion.

Our last game of the group is Walsall away. When we played there in 2012 when it was the Johnstone paint trophy we took just under 1000 this time we will probably take around 100.

It is an extremely sorry state of affairs when I am actually hoping we win in this competition, if only to give the players a bit of confidence to take back into the League programme.

The fact that we'll probably be hammered by Arsenal's u23 team means they're likely to be even more devoid of confidence in time for our drubbing from Mansfield on Saturday.

Youth team prospects Danillo & Fabian Delph expected to start vs Tranmere B.

Hopefully our lowest ever competitive attendance.
