Large crowd in a shambolic competition that fans* are universally boycotting

One big night of shame.

Good win for Vale though

* not including Lincoln City FC

Very much so, although VM you will be pleased to know Port Vale supporters in the main on the night were not the perpetrators for a change.

I think you can add Sunderland to that list of "not boycotting"- over 8,000 turned up last night to watch them play you.

Only Stoke could some how come out losing in a no lose situation. Horrible club. Thought they’d come to take the piss and it back fired hilariously. Best of it is, every one of those Stoke fans in the ground was clearly bothered about an under 21 game against a team they claim to not care about.

Don’t agree with the competition one bit, but last night allowed us to take the piss out of them. I’ve had to listen to them gloating throughout my whole childhood so it was nice to embarrass them.

Also, it was a proper atmosphere at Vale Park last night. Although it did have a real edge to it. It would be chaos if drew in the FA cup or were in the same league as them.

One lardie took a flare to the ground and it accidentally lit in his pocket... cue now has scorched bollocks.

The gift that keeps on giving.

:fl::fl: That is my favourite one from it all, serious Darwin awards potential with that lad. Needed a skin graft after that.

Seems someone filmed the ones who damaged the bogs as well on camera phone and its up now on Youtube. 5am knock from Staffs police coming for that lot soon enough.

The crowd for Mansfield in the group was 4,205 compared to 9,773 for the league game against the same opposition. Less than half.

I realise that everyone else is doing better than that and that most of you would be delighted with 4k for a league game, but we can't help that we've attracted new fans in recent years who don't quite get it and that going to see the team is something people actively want to do.

They’re averaging 30,000 at home this season. I’d say almost 75% not showing up could be classed as a boycott personally.

Sunderland getting 8000 is comparable to most of us getting around 1000, so still a decent effort.

I doubt it reaches those dizzy heights.

Cant believe the muppets have even uploaded vidoes of themselves smashing up the bogs and windows! They actually done the CCTV work for us and now their faces are all over the national press!

Sjoke City... the gift that keeps on giving.

Its not been a great week for them. bless em. A sign of how far they have fallen is that Reading have sacked their manager because they failed to beat them.

In terms of the game (i watched ifollow) it is clear academies are not working at the bigger clubs.

Its worth noting that 5 or 6 of their squad had made Premier League Apps and they spent big money on the likes of the striker for instance yet we had players of a similar age who cost nothing and the difference was massive between our lads and theirs. Sitting playing U23 football compared to dropping down the leagues and getting first team football is damaging to the development.

Interestingly we also had I think 5 players from Stoke on Trent starting in Smith, Pope, Vassell, Conlon and Gibbons.

Essentially our kids who played were far more than theirs who they spent big money on.

You can’t be judging all Big club academies based on that one game surely? I assume not. I’m not sure this competition is a good barometer, take Southampton’s U21 performance vs how good their academy is and has been for a long time now

Sticking to your guns and not going to the game is a pointless gesture when you watch the game on pay per view. :ffs:

No it isn’t as Vale get the money but the attendance is one short!

So far we’ve played four... none have tested us.

The only ones who would compete are possibly Man City and Chelsea.

Apparently our crowd was exactly the same as at Accrington. Given that we have spent recent years laughing at their attendances some consider it to be us going 'to their level'
I'd say it means our fans are more discerning and get the boycotting thing.
I'm glad we lost and can get back to the real business of losing to Bury on Saturday

I’m the past 3 seasons we’ve played Leicester Sunderland and Newcastle, and lost to the lot. :bg:

It’s how seriously your team take it though. Newcastle barely laid a glove on us last season with us fielding a second string however in the main our second string is usually stronger than a lot of sides due to the crazily massive squad we’ve had!

My main point was Stoke paid 1.5 million for Tyrese Campbell and big money for a few others yet they’ve generally played u23 league games and look poorer for it whilst our younger lads like Smith, Gibbons etc have played mans football and looked miles better than their big money kids.

Essentially my point was it’s better to get these kids on loan to get the real experience needed or you get left behind.

Strange lot them Stoke fans. 4000 turning up to see their Under-21's in a competition no one (apart from Lincoln) give a toss about!

Wasn’t our U21s though!

Only reason so many turned up was because they couldn’t do with Stoke ‘taking’ Vale Park.

That was to watch their first team though. I doubt that half of the Stoke fans there didn't even know who any of their players were!

Further arrests today! Police putting images up embarrassing them even more, whilst it even got mentioned in parliament today.

Vale fans looking to raise money for the poor lady who’s car got jumped on and is likely a write off.

Damage estimated to be £75-100k and Cheltenham a week on Saturday is in doubt due to the damage done to the speaker systems.

Not one statement or word from Stoke City Football Club about the incidents and so far efforts by Port Vale to liaise with Stoke City regarding the damages have been unsuccessful. Absolute scum.

Coates in his complete hatred for Vale will do well to remember we helped them in their hour of need when the Victoria Ground was damaged by letting them use Vale Park (ironically the only time top flight football has been played in Burslem).

Not sure what powers we have in terms of getting the lardies to foot the bill to be honest, assume maybe through the FA?
