PSG have extended Motta's contract and Thiago Maia looks to be signing for them too.

There's nothing standing in our way with regards to Fabinho now.

I'd love us to be in a position to tell Madrid to go fuck themselves, definitely.

I want us to sign Matić but I think Chelsea won't take kindly to us gazumping their approach for Lukaku and as such we might actually end up with Fabinho - which is what most United fans see as the preferable option anyway.

I'm still not very excited about Perišić either.
Hahahahahahaha

I will admit I haven't watched Fabinho much but looking how United fans raved about him i reckon we got a decent player on our hands :D

As you can see, I preferred Matic.

I rate Fabinho highly, though - he'll be a very good signing for you, will add some much needed steel to a midfield I said was a little too "jack of all trade" a good few months back. He goes quite some way to fixing that.

Keita and Fabinho in midfield, I'm jealous.

£40m is peanuts, too.

Another astute signing or two (keeper, cb) and I will consider you title contenders next season.

Fabinho was a machine in that Monaco side when he was playing next to Bakayoko in 442. When he wasn't on the pitch, Monaco just weren't clicking in midfield and lost most games. He needs another hard-worker in midfield next to him though. Would like to know how the Liverpool fans reckon they'll line up next season. 442 with Keita & Fabinho in midfield? Meaning Henderson and Milner in early retirement?

Very interesting signing.

I think Fabinho will alternate with Hendo, who is quite injury prone, but been a beast the last few months. I think Fekir will come too, and he's attacking mid isn't he (haven't seen him play but saw his stats the other day). I can see many combinations and options we could play to mix it up in the four competitions we'll be wanting to compete in next season; and with Ox and Lallana to come in too, I can see plenty of creativity being added there.

Unsure what will happen with Milner if I'm honest; I love him to bits, and he seems settled; but I'm not sure if, with all those players there in midfield, he'll get much gametime, and that's why he signed with us in the first place, to get gametime (and preferably through the centre of the park). I hope he stays - he's our Ruud Gullit. ;)

He's an excellent penalty taker.

It's certainly an area there was a clear gulf in class during the Champions League Semi FInal.

Probably a slight upgrade on Can - good signing and at a decent price.

His agent is Mendes so is he just on loan to Liverpool whilst Wolves decide if we want him?

A highly intelligent footballer who can read the drop of the ball instinctively and break up the play when we need to disrupt the flow of the oppositions attack. I'm just happy we have finally signed a proper DM ,I half expected City to swoop for this fella as an option to playing an aging Fernandinho.

No they got Jorginho who reportedly was our first choice.

I think the procurement of Fabinho is yet another coup for the club and its no secret we have needed an astute defensive minded midfielder for 'what can only be described' as an uncomfortable period of years.

I'm just elated that the proverbial penny has finally dropped and the need for a specialist player to protect the back four has thankfully now been addressed.

If you cant suppress the need ,then who am I to deny you ?
Thank you. This is among my best work on the subject, and there's more where this came from whenever you need it.

I knew you'd come here all superior with your condescending tone. But for one last time I'll rise above it, as I often have, to explain to you why I should be laughing at you.

This forum has never been quite enlightened enough to appreciate Lucas' greatness. It's a shame, but what else can you ask from a forum where Lionel Messi 6/10 is the biggest consensus ever reached. It's unfortunate, because the signs were always there in plain sight.

Let's take a trip down memory lane to the merry day in july (or may, possibly august) when Benitez signed the young, talented and exciting blonde Gremio box to box midfielder. Way back in 2007, the world was quite different. Anything other than Liverpool was basically better: Nigel Farage was just a random racist, Boris Johnson hadn't been on a stupid talk show or whatever, the financial crisis was still unheard of and you could say Hitler was a c*nt without others pointing out how many other c*nts have existed without half the condemnation.

But Liverpool, we were quite the opposite. Aside from the young talented exciting blonde Gremio box to box midfielder, we were in a bad place. We had just been taken over by H&G, dickheads, and we had lost a CL-final, our last one since. To top it off, we had just signed a spanish nobody with a stupid nickname for too much money. At least according to Pagnell, unless he has changed his opinion in the past nine years. But knowing Pags, he very probably has not.

Here we are, some nine and a half years later. The random racists have organized, Boris Johnson is your secretary of state or something he's stupidly unqualified for, the financial crisis fucked us all and G-dragon probably thinks Hitler has been treated unfairly by the establishment. I'm sure we can all agree that the world is way shittier than that in 2007.

Yet somehow, we have during these very important years moved in the opposite direction. I mean, we have gone from the shambles that we were to genuine contenders right here. And we're also financially stable, we've got a bigger stadium and times are generally great.

Now, you could of course point at many factors, normally. Things are complicated. But there's only one single factor (/person) who has been a constant during these years; when Liverpool has moved in the opposite direction of a world very likely to end before Bob Dylan.

n_liverpool_fc_lucas-654263.jpg

One league cup, two times league runner up, and unless my memory serves me wrong we averaged 3,4 points per game with him in the side during the years 2010-2013. Someone will have to look it up.

The exciting box to box midfielder now leaves as an experienced, admired defensive anchor up there with Makelele, Vieira and Joey Barton. Now, the common narrative is that Lucas Leiva was transformed to a defensive midfielder because he couldn't attack; but this is wrong. It was simply a waste for us to have the ball when he was in the side; such was his defensive contribution. It is indeed said that Hodgson specifically instructed Liverpool to give the ball away deliberately, just so that we could get the best out of Lucas Leiva.

The world is going down the shitter, but we're going the opposite direction. All thanks to this man.

Brazilian. Defensive midfielder. Legend.

I'd like to say I read that with the keen eye of a proof reader ,but sadly I was distracted by the garish vest top ,I'm thinking that you deliberately made this inclusive betwixt your critique to deter the reader from formulating an inspired retort . Am I right ?

No it's to show that Lucas looks great in any attire and that 2007 was a good year for the world.

He clearly does not possess the arms to flaunt a vest ,which would suggest you're being slightly disingenuous in your appraisal . Am I right ?

Fabinho isn't a proper DM. He can do a job there but he's box-to-box.

Willy Boly, Diogo Jota and Benik Afobe have all signed permanently following loan spells last season. Means our current transfer outlay is £33m.

I went to the same school as him a long time ago. A shame his injury had halted his career at Southampton, hope he can get back to his best and get back into England contention.

Was a but unsure on Afobe but for £10million and having seen him do well in the central and wide roles under Nuno I feel okay with makong it permanent. He is currently the only striker we have so not a surprise they triggered the deal.
