Its that time of the year. Has anybody entered their county cup yet?

Alfreton enter the Derbyshire Senior Cup at the Third Round stage on Wednesday night at home to Heanor Town of Step 6. A side who have not lost a single game in all competitions in 9 months!

Having said that the gulf in class between the Conny North and the East Midlands Counties League should see us progress as we defend the title.

We play our first Hunts Senior Cup match next Wednesday away at Step 5 Godmanchester Rovers. We're one of just six teams in the competition and only one of those six (St. Ives Town) are at a higher level than us now, so we have a decent chance of winning the thing.

We've also got the Hunts 125 Premier Cup final (an extra competition that they had in pre-season to celebrate 125 years of the Hunts FA) to play against St. Ives Town at some point soon, which should be a decent chance to win our first silverware of the season.

Barnet are at home to Staines in the Middlesex Senior Cup on Tuesday night.

Hopefully an easy win but like last year I expect Brentford's B team to clean up the whole competition easily. Way too strong for everyone else.

My other club Long Eaton United travel to Mickleover Sports. That's pretty much us out.

We host Horley Town of the Combined Counties League on the 12th. There’s a possibility that we could possibly maybe win but I’m not getting my hopes up

We've been drawn at home to Pickering Town in the North Riding Senor Cup. Will be reserves and youth team and Middlesbrough's U23's will win it.

We beat Oldham in the last round, and next up in the Lancashire Cup Quarter Finals is Preston at their training ground.

Fylde also have Burnley away.

No idea why we still have these competitions.

We've got a bye against Radstock in the 2nd Round of the Somerset Premier Cup. No idea why.

Macclesfield at home in the Cheshire Senior Cup for us tomorrow night. We are charging the same prices as for the Leasing.Com Trophy, which sums up our contempt for that competition.

Sure about that?

No idea what side Sports put out but a 4-2 away win against a side 2 divisions above you is pretty decent to say the least.
I know we played almost a starting 11 bar a couple unavailable.
Shame we went out to Coventry United in the Vase on Saturday as I actually think we could have gone quite far in that.

Away at Moneyfields last night. Pre-match managerial guff was to treat as an important game. Predictably lost 4-3, despite inclusion of 7 first-teamers. Will be interesting to see managers reaction.

Well, we were supposed to play Godmanchester tonight but that's already been postponed because of a waterlogged pitch, which is pretty irritating when we've already got to fit the 125 Cup Final in somewhere in a midweek, as well as two league games most likely. May well be a slight backlog already, and we've not even gotten into winter yet.

We had signed a couple of youngsters on loan from Peterborough ahead of tonight's game, but it looks like they're going to have to wait for their chance.

Beat Runcorn Town a couple of weeks ago 7-0 (a). Fringe players Waring and Elliot scored 6 of them. Lots of youth teamers on show too. Cannot find who we play in next round.

Just seen former Notts player Ricky Ravenhill was playing for Mickleover Sports last night, also Pablo Mills and Stuart Beavon. It appears they weren't playing much of a weakened side!

We bombed out at the first hurdle in our defence of the Lancs Challenge Trophy, losing 3-2 at home to Ashton Athletic tonight. It appears we played 3 players who are dual registered with Warrington too.

We still have the Liverpool Senior Cup to endure after beating Burscough on penalties last week following a 2-2 draw.

Alfreton breezed through last night 2-0 against Heanor thanks to a first half brace from Amari Morgan-Smith.

It came at a cost though as midfielder David Lynch left in an ambulance after sustaining a nasty gash on his thigh.

I hope Lynch gets better soon. A fairly limited player but a smashing bloke and never shirked a shift whilst with us.

What's the Lancs Challenge Trophy??? How come you aren't in the 'proper' Lancs Cup?

Overcame Brentwood Town 4-2 in the Essex Senior Cup on Tuesday and will now play Chelmsford City in the 4th Round. That's the 3rd season in a row we have drawn the Clarets and they've knocked us out in the last 2.

The cut-off point for the "proper" cup is the National League. Regional league scum like us get sent to roped-off park pitches like Garstang or Holker Old Boys. I'd rather play Accrington's youth team than pick up injuries against pub team cloggers playing the biggest game of their lives, but our current position doesn't allow that.

Ah, fair enough - I remember we used to play in the President's Cup or something, that must have been when we were in Conference North. I also don't really get how Everton are in our competition but Liverpool aren't - perhaps to do with them playing in Europe?

Our game is something like 1pm on a Tuesday at Preston's training ground. Really, what is the point of having a competition that nobody can watch?!

Liverpool don't put a side out for the Liverpool Senior Cup either, something to so with their under 23's playing in the UEFA Youth League. Bit of a joke really as it's compulsory for every other senior side to enter it.

The Lancs Senior Cup should go back to being a pre-season competition like it was in the 90's. I saw us in some cracking games then, beating Burnley, and giving Wigan and Blackpool a run for their money.
