Well that's it - that is the f*cking absolute last straw.

These foreign owners are an absolute shambles.

DC was the only good thing about Bristol Rovers. We need this board out ASAP.

Shocked by that despite Rovers’ form. I always think that while managers still have the backing of fans, they can turn it around.

These owners really need to get this next appointment right and see results improve to justify this one.

I'd rather be in L2 with Clarke than L1 with some roundabout manager like Cotterill (for example).

Either way, the board told Clarke that no stadium, no training ground & no money in January - if he wants a single player in, someone has to go.

If they manage to make money for a new manager then I'm afraid people won't attend until this ownership has left Bristol Rovers.

DC turned down the Leeds job because of the promises made to him under their ownership. And what did we sign? We let Lee Brown (in team of the season so far at Pompey) go for free & we signed the reserve left back on loan from f*cking Stevenage in L2

Who on Earth are they expecting to attract for the job with that spec?

Sorry but Cotterill pisses all over your beloved ‘DC’.

He’s pissed your division, yet the same one you’re struggling to stay in?

Who are you realistically expecting?

Sure, nice and easy when he has your budgets in L1. A monkey could do that job.

DC actually knows this club through & through, Coterill is an ex-City manager, who's bad mouthed the club before.

We sign reserve players on loan from L2, I don't see Coterill managing that. Who am I expecting? I don't know, but I know I don't want Cotterill.

No need to get so offended by it

I still haven't forgiven Cotterill for selling Matt Ritchie for a nominal fee back in 2011. Just the sort of young, ambitious player we desperately needed at the time.

Having said that, we would have lost him eventually in one of our numerous fire sales as we plummeted through the divisions.

Our budgets?

Do your research. Cotterill got us promoted with a negative net spend, his recruitment is fantastic, whereas Clarke has wasted the best part of £1m on Payne, Nichols, Burn, Mensah etc who are all fucking shite.

Cotterill pisses all over Clarke and wants the job unfortunately. I’d have him back tomorrow.

Wage bill must have been high for this level though, surely? Would dwarf Bristol Rovers currently anyway.

Transfer fees are pretty irrelevant below the Championship. We spent £75k in our promotion season.

Cotterill would be a decent appointment, he's just a mug in the league above.

As above. I'm not sure how you can even compare our budget compared to yours. That is genuinely one of the most hilarious things I've read from a City fan.

And do my research?

You've literally made up numbers for players. We haven't spent near £1m at all.

Next time, do you research ;)

Cotterill is a snake and a prick.

Plus, he track record is generally quite poor since leaving Cheltenham. Ran out on Stoke, sacked by Burnley, took over an easy gig at Notts County then dumped on them in quick fashion. Took over an easy, no pressure job at Pompey where anything other than defeats were seen as an amazing achievement. Left them as soon as a new opportunity came up at Forest. Did nothing with Forest and was sacked. Went to Bristol City with a big budget, not hard to get them moving in the right direction. Then was sacked and went with another cushy assistant managers position at Birmingham, took over as manager and was sacked. And don't give me that it's an impossible job at Birmingham, both Rowett and Monk have been able to get them moving forward. That's 3 sackings and 2 forced departures in 6 jobs. Not great is it?

Oh yes, but tell me how he took over a well on their way to promotion Notts County and got them promoted. Very impressive. Tell me how he got a Bristol City team with probably double the wage budget of most of their league rivals promoted. Again, what an achievement.

A sign of the man is the fact that either he or someone like his agent edits his own wikipedia page:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Cotterill

Shows the kind of person he is. All the failures were nothing to do with him, it was boardroom politicis, injuries, a lack of budget, blah blah blah. Steer well clear of this clown.

From memory, you’ve spent £250k on THD, £100k on Mensah, £75k on Partingdon, £100k on Burn, £300k on Nichols, £200k on Payne.... those together total over a million pounds and I’m sure I’ll have missed some. Care to clarify how you haven’t spent near £1m at all?

Our wage bill would be higher yes but Cotterill isn’t a just a cheque book manager, your squad is underachieving and he took us over in the same position you’re in now. You’d be lucky to have him.

Biggest load of fucking nonsense I’ve ever read. You’ve clearly got some sort of irrational gripe with Cotterill which is clouding your judgment so it’s not even worth responding to.

Where have you pulled 250k on THD? The bloke played 10 games since 2016, not a chance we'd pay that on a LB.

All of your assumptions are complete guesses mate. Or do you have any proof to back them up?

You've also bumped up each of the figures from rumours to suit your argument - funny that.

You mentioned "£1m on Payne, Nichols, Burn, Mensah" so I am merely debating your incorrect point.

The fact still remains that Clarke made more money in transfers than he spent. He lost his best players to Top of L1 and Championship clubs, we play in arguably one of the worst stadiums in the Top 4 divisions, shite training ground standards - all while doing this on what was a bottom 6 budget in L1.

This season it was increased and I'm not saying he hasn't made some mistakes on players. Of course he has. But he's been here 4 1/2 years - only 4 1/2 months of that time he has under performed - and then he gets forced out for it.

Sorry Gassy, I know Clarke was struggling but you've just binned the only thing at your club with a modicum of respect.
I really do fear for you lot now.
As for Cott's, don't so it Steve!! A red hero and that pedestal would be seriously wrecked if he went to your shower. Bloody good Manager though.

They’re not assumptions. As it happens one of my best mates is currently working at Rovers under Tom Gorringe(?) and his old man is cushty with the board of directors and sorts club events such as the golf day with Hamer and the 90s players event last Friday with Devon White that you may have been aware of.

I haven’t bumped anything up, just gone from memory.

Christ, you’re clutching a bit now aren’t you being that pedantic? I finished it with etc as I couldn’t be arsed to list the rest, I’m sure you know exactly who the players are.

What’s your point regarding him bringing in more than he spent? Shall I add that Cotterill got us promoted with a negative net spend or is that only fit to mention when it suits your argument?

Not defending the sacking of Clarke, just the case of Cotterill. I hope he doesn’t get it, sneaky feeling it might be Flynn but we’ll see.

JJ1532's post looks pretty spot on to me.

Would be intrigued to know his win ration in the Championship, probably well below 30%.

Not sure why it’s relevant as we’re not talking about him taking over a Championship club.

Take a look at the betting market and let me know who you think would be a better option.

Probably not many, still think he's a very limited manager though and a nob to boot.

That’s pretty narrow minded. Being a manager at a football club is not easy, especially at a club in the bottom four of the third tier.

Very similar situation to yourselves when Cotts took over us. He kept us up and the following summer, he produced miracles with the transfer window. The following season is history!

He gave me some of the best football I have seen at the Gate, genuinely. Fast attacking football, winning games 6-0 and the 8-2 against Walsall. Phenomenal stuff, all in a short space of time to where we were a season before.

You could do a lot worse.

Bristol Rovers could obviously do a lot worse than Cotterill in terms of a football manager but let’s look at this from the Perspective of a gas head, a popular manager who they have adopted as their own is removed to then be replaced by a man known for his allegiance and relationship with their bitter rivals.

It would be a kick in the plums for any football fan.

I remember Iain Dowie coming to us from Palace, the fans never really got on board and it was a disaster.

Their owners aren't adverse to 'kicking them in the plums' Bobbin, in fact, I don't think they really give a shit plus don't appear to have a clue what they're doing.

Ok so you would expect 1m on players in L1 to challenge for promotion? Seriously? Have you undervalued L1 so much in your time in the Championship? Thats the equivalent of saying you could put together a promotion challenging team in the Championship for what, 5m?

Perhaps you could, but its exceptionally unlikely.

The difference is the players you can attract in. You have a stadium (sure old AG wasn't great but just one of your stands is better than anything we own ffs), training facilities, paid exceptionally well & very big crowds for the average of the division.

You could tempt a L1 player to see his contract out and sign for you in summer. We can only dip into the conference to do that. It's a bit of an unfair comparison.

Why are you defending Cotterill? Have I said anything bad about him? I just said I don't want him.

What makes Bristol City fans high & mighty to start saying "You'd be lucky to have him"?

Stop looking & talking down on people and have some respect.

Don't worry, the disaster train isn't getting derailed anytime soon.

Just to top it off they've said (roughly)

"We expect a lot of interest in the position. We'll await to see the CVs and assess"

Cotterill spent about £1m and transformed us from a side that were heading for the drop to league champions within 18 months, yet “a monkey” could do his job, so go figure.

I’m defending him because your comments are ill informed and total nonsense. The irony in you telling someone else to have some respect whilst running down Cotterill’s achievements is quite something as well.

What makes us so “high and mighty” (your words not mine) is that the way we look at it, for the reasons you’ve already listed what makes you think you’ll have top end L1 managers queuing up? Yet you have one that wants the job and you’re just running him into the ground.

I get why you or any other Rovers fan wouldn’t want him, but I doubt you’ll attract any better in your current state.

Queue some total no mark then!
The perfect scenario, just mentioned on OTIB, would be you give the job to Holloway and he takes you down. That would be hilarious! I nearly spat my tea over my laptop when I read that.

Merry Xmas Gassy! ;)
