Was he just being honest or naive during his drunken public rant?

Many a Sunderland fan might agree with him regarding the lack of pride and effort given by some players..

But is there a place and a time...should be kept in private/in house?

How would you feel if one of yours came out with such comments?

He has a point, Sunderland have only been prolonging relegation for a good 2 or 3 years now. They were shockling last season and it's clear that many of their players are happy to pick up their wages every week without really giving a damn on the pitch.

However, there is a time and place to discuss that, and it certainly isn't a good idea to get pissed after losing 5-0 and slag off your teammates to the fans. I think he has left himself in an untenable position at the club, and will probably be sold on.

I think he was being honest: it's very common when a side goes down from the Premier League to have a lot of players who do not give a shit, take Aston Villa last season or the QPR side of 2015-16 for example. Lamine Kone, Wabhi Kahzri and Jermain Lens are all players who simply do not believe they belong in the Championship: therefore have decided they no longer care about the club and just want to move away from the club ASAP. This is a bad way of going about things, not only for the club but also the player, if they can't move away in this first transfer window they will have to buckle down and put some effort in, or otherwise no better clubs (apart from ones with a horrific recruitment system) are going to want them. Grayson needs to get rid of these players for the highest price he can get, and fast.

However, there is no point for Darren Gibson to make these comments in public: it does nothing apart from ensure the members of the squad in question and all there friends hate Darren. I've no doubt Simon Grayson has noticed the particular players that are not putting effort in, and he will deal with them as he sees fit. It's also a little hypocritical for Darren Gibson to say this while he is completely off his face: hardly being committed to Sunderland if he gets himself drunk, which impacts his fitness and his decision-making (as demomstrated by his decision to make the comments in question).

To summarize, Gibson was being honest and Sunderland need to get rid of the players mentioned, but Gibson should not have made these comments.

Gibson probably doesn't realise though that it was only due to the arrival of Kone, Khazri and Kirchoff in January 2016 that Sunderland weren't playing their football in the Championship last season. Maybe they're a bit despondent at having to play alongside more recent signings like, well, Darren fucking Gibson.

Bad example, every footballer goes for a drink. It's not within five days of a game and as long as it isn't a permanent state of comatose I really don't see the problem. Gibson hasn't said anything in public he hasn't said in the dressing room I'd wager. Unprofessional comments, but it always surprises me more footballers don't say shit like that - I probably would!

If a football club will drop or release players, without notice, at the first level of success, then it stands to reason that players will either leave or stop caring when the club drops below a certain level. The blame lies with the people making decisions, ultimately; not the players.

Yes and yes.

Perhaps if someone had gone off on one in our dressing room at some point last season, we wouldn't have had a squeaky arse end to last season
