Round one
Grimsby - Derby

Round two
Accrington - West Brom
Brighton - Barnet
Carlisle
- Sunderland
Leeds - Newport

Cheltenham - West ham (Wed)

Really looking forward to our game at Brighton. New ground to visit. Will be a really tough test, but just hope we make a good account of ourselves.

Hopefully a couple of league two teams make their way through. I think Accrington have a chance of an upset.

Looking forward to our game, though ticket sales are a bit underwhelming, just under 6000 so far. I think we've got a decent chance of an upset, Sunderland aren't in great form and will surely make a few changes. They looked poor against Bury in the first round, so hopefully we can beat them.

We've got a decent record under Curle in this competition.

We've knocked out 3 teams from League 1, won away at QPR, took Derby and Liverpool to penalties at their own grounds.

I can see us taking Sunderland to extra time and pens.

Yeah I can't really think of a disappointing game we've had under Curle in this competition. Beat Chesterfield, Beat QPR, went out on Penalties to Liverpool, Beat Port Vale, went out on Penalties to Derby, Beat Fleetwood. Been some of our best performances of the last three years.

Sunderland, according to their local paper, feel they lack strength in depth, so assuming they resting a couple of first team players I think we can definitely muster up a match for them.

My mate who's coming to the game with me won't be happy if it goes to penalties... he has work on Wednesday... he works in Millom.

I'm hoping Tony Pulis might put the reserves out against us - we may have a chance then...
No idea how the ticket sales are going - hoping it'll be a decent crowd and atmosphere

I know of a fair few Rovers fans who are going to your place on Tuesday cos we play Wednesday so that might boost the attendance a bit.

Am I the only one who thinks we'll get easily beat by Sunderland? They have lots of quality and experienced former Premier league players.

I think they will get a routine 3-0 win.

you're so fucking pessimistic, put a sock in it and just enjoy the fact that we've got a great draw and are usually quite good in this competition.

Enjoy it?

We always do shit at home against big clubs in cup matches. We probably wont have any good chanes to score either.

We'll do fuck all.

Keeper injured on warm up so no sub keeper on the bench. Not a great start.

Brighton have been deeply pedestrian this half with their only good chance being one we presented to them.

So all our teams bar Cheltenham are out, sounds like Barnet might have acquitted themselves well and I see Newport were leading at Elland Road at one point. We may have lost to Sunderland but they can count themselves lucky, we hit the post and drew a number of good saves from their keeper and for long spells of the game we were battering them, they had the pace and the quicker anticipation, but we were far the more positive and determined of the two teams, and should really have had a late penalty when Bennett was shoulder-barged in injury time, but I guess the referee chickened out at the prospect of awarding us two penalties in one game. Their goal notwithstanding, Bonham wasn't really tested in the second half and after a nervy opening we grew into the game. Parkes was immense at the back and in the final ten minutes Sunderland resorted to some serious skulduggery and on another day one of their players may have picked up a second booking. Ah well, good game, everything but the result was a positive for us.

Ive got to say im very pleased with our performance againt a quality championship side, shows that we can be very competitive this season in our own league.

Good game, could've scored a few more, especially in that first half, and more than matched them throughout. Not a bad performance from anybody, Bennett grew into the game against 2 big defenders, Adams and Devitt linked up well and the defence were solid again. Parkes has been a great signing so far.

Highlight of the night was sitting metres away from the Cowleys!!

We just suffered from the absence of Akinde, we didn't have someone there to supply the killer touch.

The best thing about Bennett's performance tonight was that apart of getting caught offside once, he seemed to be permanently positioned right on the line of the last defender, and clung onto that line very well.

Excellent performance from us. Best we've played for a long long time.

Sunderland will count themselves very fortunate to be thru

Nothing to complain about other than a bit of poor finishing from us, but also credit their keeper who was excellent.

Now if only we could take that performance into Saturday!

League 2 involvement will be over at 10pm tonight then.

Highlights from yesterday. Bonham's save on 1:35 is outstanding, our defending for the first Sunderland goal was a bit slack, we just allowed them too much time on the ball. Mike Jone's through ball to Adams just before Lambe hits the post is also orgasmic. There were a good few attacks from us that didn't make the highlights, but only one real Sunderland chance, which Bonham saved, that has been omitted. Their winner was a touch of class. Also missing is the penalty shout in injury time, but I almost don't feel I need to see it again, it was that clear cut. Sunderland awarded their MoM to their keeper, which says it all.

Lots of praise coming our way from Brighton fans who felt their team were a bit lucky.

Other thing of note was the ages of our players that were involved as per someone on our forum

A 2-1 home defeat to any Championship side looks decent enough on paper, that is until you realise that Sunderland made ten changes to their starting line up. Now the question is did Carlisle play their first choice eleven or not? If they did so, then quite frankly I'd be pretty disappointed with the result if I were a Carlisle fan. I fully expect any top half L2 side to beat any Championship second string side especially on home soil.

Don't get me wrong Carlisle fans, it's just the way I see things when it comes to cup games.

That's fair, but these Premier League and Championship clubs have second strings teams worth millions - I think Khazri was over £10m himself! The chances we had compared to them probably warranted a win but sadly football doesn't work that way.

Darren Gibson for example just looked so comfortable on the ball. He's not great by their standards but at our level he was great.

The result is only part of the story though, we really should have been celebrating a win but for some luck that went Sunderland's way and not ours, and don't give us that 'you make your own luck' stuff, over the course of the season, but not in a cup game, even I may once in a blue moon hit a ball sweetly enough to beat a professional goalkeeper. One of Sunderland's ten changes was the return of Oviedo after an injury, and who you'd expect to be starting, another was a debut for a goalie who may well go on to start the next league game for them and Djilobodji is only out of their first team because he's angling for a move to a Premiership club and so Grayson has dropped him.

We did not play our first choice eleven. We left the two Millers on the bench.

And I did read somewhere, second string or not, Sunderland's midfield pairing, who barely got a sniff all game cost a combined £18m... money we won't spend in a century's worth of signings.

Thought we did alright without ever looking like causing an upset. Eisa stood out yet again and arguably should've had a penalty

Derby had their best 11 out against us whereas we just played a mixture of reserves and youth teamers* :animatedf: :ohy:
