Agreed Les. Erm, 'rare' slip up by Impish here, as improbable as that sounds ;)

I was guilty of saying the same thing when I first started out watching footy, after watching my side thrashing some poor side and thinking to myself 'oh these lot are going down next year', totally neglecting that said side could appoint a new manager/ get rid of the dead wood and make a handful of decent signings/ the current manager brings in those players that do fit his preferred playing style during the summer.

Likewise with thinking 'these lot are definitely going up next season'

Yeah I was having horrible flashbacks to our 2011 relegation team watching Grimsby yesterday. Be afraid, lads.

Still, Grimsby retain the moral high ground over us because they...er...have lower crowds and don't go in for cringeworthy stuff like banners, displays or any sort of vocal show of support for their team.

I had to refresh my memory on that 2010/11 season, and right now I'm looking at Lincoln's match results. Good god, five wins in a row (22nd Jan - 5th Feb) but then only got one point in their final 10 games???

I can see now why the Lincoln fans are thinking that Grimsby are attempting a repeat of that year!

And then followed that up by numerous seasons was it 5 or 6 not even making the top half of the NL, whilst losing to the behemoths that are Whitehawk, North Ferriby and Carshalton. When things get that bad, you can see why the city is now back in love with its club once again.

Most Lincoln fans already own a half and half scarf anyway.
One side with Lincoln on, the other side with the team they supported pre 2017 on.
Tbf, it’s an impressive upsurge in attendance. But to put it in perspective, when Oxford and Bristol Rovers we’re in the Conference their crowds didnt diminish to Lincoln’s levels.

I really don’t know what Lincoln’s crowds usually were before their descent into darkness, tbh.

Is there a ban on signing new players then?

IF Jolley does manage to keep us up (the 2 home games coming up v Barnet and Chsterfield are going to be massive), then I'm pretty sure he might just bring a few new players in seeing that we only have 4 or 5 contracted for next season.

I was thinking more about the make up of the 2 clubs at the minute, the states they're in. That will remain the same next season come what may.

Obviously he'd have a clear out yes. But realistically Grimsby Town in League 2 is not very enticing for a player to sign. Location, run down town, home fans hostile to own players, etc etc.

So can't see anyone of any worth signing there any time soon. You've only signed tripe since returning to the league. You were a big fish in the conference and could attract the better non league players.

I think you'll go down anyway so it's irrelevant really but they are my reasons.

It was very cold.

There have been some big differences between Lincoln/Grimsby sides down the years and for the most part it's been us that have been behind, but yesterday was the widest gap I've witnessed between the two - and by quite some margin. Even when we were inferior, although we just weren't a great side, we generally gave it a go. You couldn't say we didn't try or anything like that and if you're beaten doing that and you're just not good enough then you hold your hands up and accept it. But yesterday Grimsby weren't good enough by some considerable distance and there was no real 'have a go' in them either.

I'm saying that but maybe that was all they've got, I'm not sure. I wasn't 100% convinced that Grimsby were going to be as bad as Cods on here have been making out but I can now see why they were so worried, so many weeks ago.

We had Rhead and Bostwick being pretty non-committal because of being on 9 yellows and didn't even need to get close to getting a 10th and I can't really recall too many things happening in the second half. After their double woodwork hit after a wayward Eardley header, we blitzed them in 10 minutes and it should have been 4 but for McKeown's save from Whitehouse and that was the only time we really got going properly in the game. It was second gear from then on, managing the game well and running the second half down.

Looked an obvious penalty to me - didn't look like Whitehouse got much of a push.

All in all, a deserved win, but the game itself turned into a bit of a flat fart in the second half. It was like a training session. Had no derby edge to it at all.

Worrying times for the Cods. Luckily for them, it seems Barnet and Chesterfield are in no rush to put a run together. There's also Morecambe, FGR, Vale and Crewe in and around there as well.

3.5k in our relegation season so the drop after relegation wasn't that big. The drop was something that had been happening for 2 or 3 years prior, down from 5.5k.

So, in effect you’ve got back to your usual level plus 50%. Very impressive.

That banner reads:

A NEW ERA DAWNING. BE CAST IN OUR SHADOW FOR ETERNITY

We'd better win now...
The banner spoilt it I thought. That aside, a good display again. The Notts County one is probably the best so far.

What game was this one for? L7 is empty so I'm assuming it's last season? Or was it the opening day?

And another one just because I'm on the photo album on FB anyway.

Yep, not as big a increase of new support as people think. We got decent crowds before the lower ones, which are usually referenced.

Basically I know a lot of people who used to be the kind of people who'd come 6/7 times a season who are now season ticket holders. That's the real increase in our support.

We were as shit as expected.

I'm still cringing at that banner and will be for a few weeks.

Lots of families too now, honestly never seen so dads, mums and kids at matches as now. My daughter is in her 4th season of going and became a season ticket holder for the first time this season.
We more or less trebled our season ticket sales this season despite putting up our prices despite rumours of gimmicks as to why we sold so many.

I said only a handful of games into the season that we had a side that looked like it could take us down. We had a little bit of quality in Sam Jones and an in form Dembele, with an injured Jamey Osborne to return and boost us further, which was enough to help us snatch some wins, of which only two or three were actually convincing performance wise. Now that we've lost the only quality we had, this is without a doubt the worst Grimsby side I have ever seen by such a huge margin and it could easily be argued to be the worst side we have ever had. Thank god most of them are out of contract because this squad would get relegated in the conference with ease.

I'm staying positive that Jolley can work up a system to accommodate the dross we have but we've been as good as down for months. It's a hard task because nobody wants to praise and reassure their players after getting fucking embarrassed in a local derby but he has no choice. This is already a squad that doesn't give a shit, bollocking them will make them give less of a shit. We're fucked and Lincoln are going to be above us for many, many years to come and will be until we are one day rid of Honest John and co.

Ever considered that football is cyclical? We could’ve made one of these for the past 6 seasons but there many obvious reasons why we haven’t.
Of course, I'm just enjoying us being on top for the first time since I started supporting us in the mid-90s.

Besides which, if you do go down, I can't see you coming back for a while, whereas we look like we are heading in the opposite direction, if not this year then next.

You mean to say we might not actually keep this permanent happy state of success for ever and it may at some stage return to the more humdrum dross that we are used to? That's just ruined my Monday morning.

We'd considered it but it never seemed to, or likely to, happen!

Know it’s late to talk about this, but hell. We were bad, Lincoln were bad, we were just worse. Don’t remember if the air raid siren at corners is new or old, but it didn’t half do my head in.
Bit surprised tbh, the way Lincoln fans go on about their team I’d expect them to look good, but compared to the other teams around their position they seem to be missing something. It’s only one game, and it’s a derby game so it’s not like it’s indicative of anything more, whereas our terrible performance is exactly what everyone expected. Better team won, nice to see a sell out Sincil Bank for a rivalry game.

Bit bizarre. I think most have been saying we miss a bit of something and that extra quality needed all season.
