I wouldn't want Neville. He's done virtually fuck all in management and the little he has done was a failure.

Who would you have then?

Lack of a experience as manager doesn't bother me. You won't find a more experienced manager than Capello and look how that went. Plus managing club is very different to managing a national side.

I actually wouldn't have been fully anti Pardew until he did that dance in the FA cup final. There's no coming back from that.

Lads, I hope you're all buzzing after that, and so you should be! I was down in the dumps at half time and felt gutted but nothing can take away that feeling when Sturridge scored! Sheer jubilation! That's the bit of luck we need and didn't have against Russia!

What made it more sweeter was all that rubbish we've heard all week off Coleman, Bale and Ramsey. They gave it the big one all week and showed a lack of respect so I couldn't be more happy seeing them lying on their backs at full time!

Yes we made hard work of it and some would say we were fortunate. However over both games we have absolutely dominated and we deserve to top the group currently. Russia and Wales had no ambition and both came for a point. Wales especially disappointed me.

We are lacking a ruthless streak at the minute and our defence is yet to be tested but let's take it game by game and see where it takes us.

Eddie Howe, undoubtedly.

Why would you even consider Neville? He may come across as knowledgable sat in his comfy leather chair in the MNF football studio - but football isn't played on a plasma screen at 10x slow motion; so other than him over-analysing such a simple game on Sky Sports, what other basis would you suggest that Neville should even be a candidate?

The lack of an obvious alternative doesn't make him the right or even best option, nor does the fact you thought of an England manager who failed, despite having a lot of managerial experience prior.

Eddie Howe . The bloke gets a nosebleed when leaves Bournemouth. Not for me Clive.

Calm down. Hodgson is paid 20 times what Coleman is, you were always favourites. Try not to let a few tongue in cheek comments get the better of you.

Not sure Howe would be interested in leaving Bournemouth any time soon, seems very content there and could build something very special

Neville's clearly very knowledgeable about football (if it's so easy to "come across as knowledgeable sat on his..." then why do the vast majority of pundits come across as not very knowledgeable at all?) and is a key member of the current coaching set up. Continuity is a good thing, he'll have a good understanding of the current players and will no doubt have new ideas as a young coach. Joachim Low hadn't achieved much prior to being named Klinsman's assistant.

Why not?

He's a young, exciting coach who has got Bournemouth through the divisions playing eye-catching football, and even kept them there.

I'm not arsed about getting in this 'master tactician' such as your Mourinho's, or your Simeone's - I would be happy with a bloke who comes in, shows a set of balls and plays some exciting football to our benefits, which is currently the attacking side of things.

I don't think Neville does come across as particularly knowledgable despite what some think - he sits in the comfort of a Sky studio and over complicates such a simple game on a 50 inch plasma screen TV in 10x slow motion as I previously said. I think it's absolutely ridiculous.

And he achieves all that in a place where he is secure, happy and is very much the "man". It's far too early for him imo. I'm not even sure he'd want it at this stage in his career.

I'd be more than happy with him. It may well be too early for him, but such are the lack of obvious candidates for the job his name will undoubtedly be mentioned you'd imagine.

International football is a downgrade from the Premier League, I would be disappointed in Howe if he even considered becoming England manager yet. He has a lot more interesting challenges ahead of him in his club career and he has tonnes of time before he turns to the relatively cushy gig of International management.

Good clubs managers don't always make good International coaches. I tend to think you're better off with a great motivator as opposed to a tactician, because you get so little time to work with the players. At a club, everyone can buy into some master plan you have and all the intracacies of your in-game management, whilst in tournament football you basically get a few weeks to get everyone on the same page with some simple tactics you desperately hope they won't fuck up.

It has more notoriety, but it's like chess vs checkers. For the awful job Neville did at Valencia, he might be just what England need to continue bringing through this talented squad. He was a great motivator as a player and he had a language barrier in Spain that surely would have nullified this ability. He could yet be a decent manager, he was a fool to take that gig. The most important thing for the England squad is that Pochettino remains Spurs managers and keeps hold of his English talent tbh.

I think playing more adventurous teams will play into our hands as the tournament goes on, we've got players all over the pitch that should thrive with more space.

The defence will of course be a concern but we've got more attacking options than pretty much every other side at this tournament, could be crucial in swinging a game our way. Genuinely think we've got a great chance of making the semis and then who knows.

Bale the best player on the pitch? Erm

Quelle surprise, Roy fucks off the 4-3-3, plays with two strikers and we look decent in the second half.

The first half was fucking dreadful, a handful of chances notably Sterling's (how the fuck did he miss the target?) and then Hart's howler on that free kick. Shockingly bad, he got two hands to it, absolutely no excuse for letting that one go beyond him.

Walker and Rose were effectively playing as wingers in the second half, I appreciate we can't do that against the better sides should we progress but I very much like the use of the wing backs - Walker has been fanastic in both games. Absolute madness when the goal went in, I got fucking drenched.

As for the next game: you have to go with Vardy and Sturridge up top - Wilshere in the middle ahead of Alli as well. I'm shocked Alli's been so poor in the first two games given how he was in the second half of the season for Spurs, same with Kane, but they aren't doing it - so get others into the starting lineup.

Roy's a very, very lucky man - need to beat Slovenia still to top the group; we will if he starts the match how how he started the second half.
We didn't fuck off the 433 the changes were pretty much like for like though Sturridge drifted all over the place (I don't think that was tactical advice just Sturridge not wanting to be out wide too often).

I would go for diamond next game - a proper one not that ridiculous version that Roy went with against Portugal, partner Vardy and Sturridge.

No they weren't.

When Sturridge and Vardy came on it was a diamond - Lallana dropped in behind with Alli and Rooney in the middle.

Once Rashford came on it was back to a 4-3-3, but the front three were interchangeable.

By the way if I'm understanding the format correctly we stand a fairly decent chance of facing Northern Ireland in the last 16? Winners of group B face 3rd place in A/C or D.

Romania currently 3rd in group A - played 2, 1 point.

Northern Ireland currently 3rd in group C - played 2, 3 points.

Turkey and Czech Republic both on zero points, play Spain and Croatia next respectively. Both underdogs.

Am I right?

No way was that a diamond, Sturridge was much deeper and wider than Vardy, they weren't playing as a front two.

Why does Sturridge dropping deep to collect the ball stop it from being a diamond?

Lallana went in behind, Rooney Alli and Dier were all in the middle. Whether it was an outright two up top or not, we were still playing four players in central positions in the middle.

It's not like these ones to get ahead of themselves. Northern Ireland vs England would be a cracking draw, really hope it happens. David Healy part II.

When we were defending Sturridge was tracking the Welsh left wing back, and Lallana was doing what he always does drifting into holes all over the place and coming inside.

I'm just looking back at little bits on the iplayer and suppose it could be argued that there wasn't a distinctive formation for much of that second half, just a load of white shirts camped in the Wales final third.

It reminded me so much of a game between rival schools. No tactical nous, just determination & spirit. Problem is we looked a year below the England boys.
