We needed that second goal, Zlatan to the rescue.

Good work by Rashford.

Incredibly generous penalty decision there, Zlatan hattrick.

Good result.

Strange game in that we could have had more goals but the 3-0 is still quite harsh on Saint-Étienne overall as they created some decent chances for themselves, defended well for large parts of the game and were unfairly treated with the penalty decision and possibly the free kick decision that led to the first goal, too.

Least the Sainté fans had their day out. How I envy them...

Impressive result from Roma in Spain.

They must be the favorites?

Ofcourse Man U will do well as Jose likes to just be winning.

Spurs having their typical blip!

How generous of you after a 3-0. :D
A Zlattrick!

Manchester United starting XI: Romero, Young, Bailly, Smalling, Blind, Carrick, Pogba, Fellaini, Mata, Mkhitaryan, Ibrahimović.

Surprisingly strong.

ManU already 1-0 in front (Miki 16th min).

btw: Why are they playing today and not on Thursday which is the normal Europa League matchday?

Thanks. Yes, that makes sense. Looked it up on the map both cities are close (50-60km).

Half time, still 1-0 ManU. I've seen enough, it's boring. St.Etienne hasn't the class to put ManU here in danger (they have to shoot 5 Goals to advance)

Watching the Fiorentina vs Gladbach game. How do people think the Bundesliga is world class? Aside from Bayern no German side has made any continental semi final in the last 4 years. Garbage league.

Spurs will be hoping they do a bit better at Wembley next season!

Very impressive performance from Gladbach in Florence.

Were 3-0 down in the tie and now 4-3 ahead!

Zenit out in injury time but Lyon through with just the 11 goals!

I know you made the post after the 2-0 of Fiorentina. Unfortunately (for you) the end result was 2-4 because a football match lasts at least 90 minutes ;)

Champions League Final 2013 Bayern München vs Borussia Dortmund. I know that you can't stand the Bundesliga and that you favour the french Ligue 1. That's ok and I am sure you know how many french clubs made the semifinals in the last 4 years...fewer than the german ones. But I don't spout "Garbage league" about Ligue 1 because the Ligue 1 is a top5 league in Europe like the Bundesliga and I respect this.

Unbelievable, yes. After the 0-1 at home (where they should've won 3-1) and the 0-2 after only 30 minutes (0-3 on aggregate) I had only little hope. The Dane Vestergaard with a comic-appearance in the defense.
But Gladbach has under its new coach a new away mentality and suddenly it made "click", first a penalty and then 3 goals in 15 minutes. Always a rare occasion to score 4 goals on italian soil. Well done Gladbach!

Spurs are really out? Fucking hell. Wembley isn't the best location for them it seems.

Fiorentina suck

The manager isn't the problem though. They've got a bang average squad. Sure Kalinic is decent but they had Rossi and Cuadrado a few years ago. Now they have bloody Kalinic. Big difference.

Shakhtar and Bilbo went out too..

Maybe going to be pretty wide open this one depending on how much Roma/Man U or Lyon really want to win.

Today's draw will be interesting, probably wish to avoid Man Utd and Roma...there isn't a seeding for this is there, just how they come out of the pot?

Damn, Schalke vs Gladbach. On the other side one Bundesliga club in the next round ;) and both could avoid the likes of ManU, Roma or Lyon!

Other interesting matches:

Roma vs Lyon: That's a cracker
ManU vs Rostov: Lucky ManU

Celta Vigo (Spa) v FC Krasnodar (Rus)
Apoel Nicosia (Cyp) v Anderlecht (Bel)
Schalke (Ger) v Borussia Monchengladbach (Ger)
Lyon (Fra) v Roma (Ita)
FC Rostov (Rus) v Manchester United (Eng)
Olympiakos (Gre) v Besiktas (Tur)
Gent (Bel) v Genk (Bel)
FC Copenhagen (Den) v Ajax (Net)

We've drawn the lowest ranked side left in the competition and should progress but I'd rather have drawn one of the Belgian sides to cut down on the travelling.

Salty probably supports a Russian side as well so I'll just borrow his.

Lyon vs Roma is lucky for us, basically eliminates one of the few other serious contenders.
