The Palioi took over just into the L2 season, after Rob Edwards rookie manager had assembled a squad for buttons. Had the takeover been a bit earlier, who knows...
If Palios had taken over in May rather than August, I doubt we would have ended up in the National League. For one thing, we could not have appointed Micky Adams as he was still at Port Vale.

Are Oldham the new Chesterfield?

It's not looking good so far for them.

Could well be. Though it does occasionally work, appointing former players is by and large a terrible move.

Though I suppose given Oldham’s history with Sheridan maybe they’re removed from this

Our last three appointments have been former players, hilariously enough. Andy Ritchie was alright early this century.

I liked the Bunnmeister's press conference for what that's worth. He's such a lovely feller, but there's definitely some steel about him.

Quite pleased that we've managed to bring in Andy Rhodes as assistant manager.

Very highly rated by Wednesday fans whilst he's been their Head of Goalkeeping since 2010.

Disappointed to lose Andy Rhodes, done some fantastic work with our goalkeepers, will be difficult to replace him.

Yeah, very positive move. Seems like a good motivator and lively personality, so a good fit for the assistant's job. Have to think that he'll double up and do the goalie coaching here too, can't see us having a massive backroom staff? If so it'll be shame to see Carlo Nash go, seems to have done well, especially with Connor Ripley in 16/17. Ripley's struggled since he left us.

In other news, season ticket sales are at 2900, 500 up on this point last summer. Green shoots.

The fact Rhodes has left an extremely comfortable and rewarding job to come to Oldham suggests perhaps that everything you hear in the media with regards to the new ownership isn't as 'batshit-mental' as they'd have you believe it to be.

If in doubt just ask the Dale fans, they will probably know everything about your football club from wage structure to the wages other clubs are offering your transfer targets. Along with a predicted date of your club's demise.
If you are very lucky you may find your pre season friendly schedule discussed and its pros and cons weighed up in finer details. I am sure there are a dozen other things that I am missing.

As an aside I don't believe this oddness applies to the Dale fans who post on here, all of whom seem like decent posters.

They really are an odd bunch. I worked in Heywood until recently so a good mix of Oldham, dale and bury. They have such a bizarre holier than thou attitude.

That is scarily very, very similar to what our owner did two years ago now to ourselves and the players we had at the time.

One story that emerged from that season, was that one of our players Sammy Moore wanted to go out on loan to get some game time (He was 4th choice CM at the time) - The owner Francesco Becchetti called him into a meeting with the board and all the coaches and basically went mental at him, asking him why he didn't want to be around the club and why did he have to go out on loan. Dover came in for him but could only pay so much of his wages - He was told that if he went on loan to Dover, he would lose half his wages as Dover couldn't pay them and Becchetti refused to pay it as well - Which is what happened. Off on loan to Dover he went getting paid half of his wages, 2 weeks later we lost our first choice central midfielders and needed Sammy back - But there was no recall clause in the loan because our owner refused one, meaning we was left short from September till January when he came back...................

There is no doubt two sides to the story here, but from my experience that is basically what my club was doing two seasons ago. I hope it turns out better for Oldham than it did for us.

Wish I had your confidence.

The club is looking a shambles at the minute, We have very little experience of league 2, half the squad have very little experience in England.

We went down this route and it didn't really work, it might do for you, but for us we brought in too many players who'd never played in the English lower leagues and struggled to adapt.

Trying to integrate one or two can be done, 6-7 like we did is a big risk..............

it certainly is risky, we tried and failed, and once Winter kicks in it gets harder.

That's precisely why I'm not optimistic. It's been done before with disastrous consequences why would it work This time?

It seems to be at the moment if your an established player in England your out on your arse. Whether that's because of money or what I don't know

HMRC issue winding up order.

To be heard on 22 August.

Anyone still think we should "walk the league"?

When did anyone that didn’t support Oldham think that? More likely you’ll do what we did; your club is an even bigger mess than ours was.

You're right, nobody is saying that, it's a common strawman argument being used by some Latics fans at the moment.

This follows a raid by HRMC back in November, so you'd reckon the two things are related.

BBC Radio Manchester are reporting that this will be paid off within 24 hours but I wish we were given a clearer view of what the financial prospects of the club are.

The Trust are adamant that any lingering issues stem from the previous regime, but you have to wonder how deep in the schtuck they've left us, and how long these things will hover over us. Clearly paying players late had an effect on morale last season, and if that carries on it will be difficult for them to mount a successful campaign. Fingers crossed...

You may have to get used to this kind of thing. We've had 5 CCJs in the last 19 days. Our Chief Executive (who tbf appears to be quite a decent and up front guy) is dismissing them and essentially saying it is nothing to worry about.

Dale fans may also be discussing this as we speak.

Our allegedly suspended (for allegedly breaking Ousmane Fane's leg in training, allegedly on purpose (allegedly)) midfielder Jack Byrne has tweeted emojis intimating the club's a circus, which has gotten him some nasty responses, at the same time we're beating top half La Liga side Girona!

Always fun and games with Oldham Athletic. Now where's that striker...

Winding up order or winding up petition? There’s a big difference.

Petition. Even with all the drama it's never got to the winding up order stage, and it doesn't look like this will either.
