Home to the cobblers. Sigh.

At least we're at home, but I always prefer to draw teams not in the same league.

Hampton & Richmond Borough away, just the sort of tie I love in Round 1.

We've got a good record against non-league sides though, only Lincoln a couple of years ago have bested us since I've been alive. And that didn't feel so bad once they got to the quarters.

Although a stronger chance we'll lose now we're not very good!

Maidstone away .... an absolute trek but at least it's winnable.

Hemel Hempstead/Oxford City at home. A non-league side we haven’t played before or not in my time following Rovers. Got to be happy with that.

What a shite draw for us that, which is ok as im at work that weekend. :bg:

Suppose away at MK would’ve been even worse though.

It's OK, Tisdale doesn't do cups

Sodding Oxford Utd.

I have probably seen us play them more than just about any other team, except maybe Grimsby and Woking, mixed results and experiences. My first Rovers away game, we won 2-0 at their place when we were largely pants in most games, Danny Carey-Bertram scored both. A few seasons ago in the FA Cup, they had that bloke who they sold to Leeds, who broke our hearts. A couple of games at our place, one where the lights went out in the first half...it wasn't Dale's fault for disconnecting the windmill, there was a power cut over most of Nailsworth. On another occasion, when our crowds averaged less than a thousand and before they swapped the home and away ends, someone thought it was a good idea to give Oxford a block of seats in the main stand...it was bloody carnage, some idiot nearly sparked a riot when he stood up, opened his jacket to reveal a Swindon Town shirt...red rag to an Ox...don't know how our stewards stopped it kicking off but they did.

I was hoping for a nice easy fixture at home...didn't get it!

Not the worst draw. Glad we're at home. Decent chance to get through, I reckon. Got a feeling they're gonna kick on over the next few months or so though.

Charlton at home which will probably be a defeat. Just hope the BBC don’t go shifting it to the Sunday for that goals show they do. Be nice to draw and get a trip down to the Valley.

Rather annoying the only way there by train is by changing at Peterborough and Nottingham due to engineering works, 4.5 hours on the way back :(

Crewe away is shit because it’s always boring and shit playing a team in the same league in the cup.

But, it’s not at Brunton Park so we at least have a chance of winning. And it’s on the Euston line so it’s piss easy to get to.
Provided the trains are running of course.

Hello Hello Hello. County away to the Met. Will we get our collars felt?

Etc.

Interesting draw to say the least.

Ready for all the Met Police fans on here to start saying they ‘should be beating teams like Newport’. ;)

It's funny that we're playing a National League North club who get better crowds than we do.

By funny I mean depressing.

Crawley away at Southend. I can see the TV executives waving their cheque books already....not.

Most people know about us for our cup run to the fifth round at Old Trafford and the next season we reached the fifth round too but the truth is, apart form those two seasons, we have a terrible cup record. We haven't won a game for three seasons now and before that cup run we didn't win for around six seasons, mostly against lower league sides.

Having said that, we could get something at Roots Hall. Probably a good thrashing!

The draw is so going to happen!

Watching England vs NZ in the rugby that day so won't make it, but the Sunday might actually work for me - can't see it happening though.

Could be worse, but it's not exactly an exciting draw.

Guiseley away is the sort of tie I wanted - two leagues below us so we have a chance of winning. Can’t complain really.

We’ll get knocked out now.

We had them last season and they were dreadful and astonishingly bad tempered - they ended up with 9 men

What a treat.

Who the f$$k would watch that game apart from Vale and Sunderland fans? And they would be at the game anyway!

Would have much preferred Met Police v Newport or Chorley v Doncaster. At least they're proper FA Cup games!

How would all Sunderland fans be at the game? 4000 of them will, 10,000s won't.. Same as Leeds always going to be on TV.

How imaginative! That's like putting Man U vs whoever on the TV in the third round.

Surely the FA Cup is about the magic of the plucky non-leaguer, not giving an already big team, who have already received a handsome amount of money from parachute payments yet more money?

As Posh Hammer says, and its no offence at all to Vale, but this isn't a proper FA Cup game.

I agree, but was always going to happen being Sunderland.

That's what it should be about, but it isn't and never will be.

The same as everything in football since 1992 it's always about money, and the tv companies will always put on the games they think will have the most people watching. All those Sunderland, Leeds, Man U fans etc. not at the game will be watching.

How many Met Police fans would be watching?

That’s a gate killer and I bet the TV revenue is minimal.

Only be about 8000 or 9000 there now instead of around 12000.

Sunderland will sell 4500, surely we will get 5000 home fans? Depends how it’s priced mind.

Is it just me that doesn’t get why Sunderland would be massive home draw?

Obviously big club well below their natural level but it’s hardly an awe inspiring tie?

If Bury had have drawn Sunderland in the 3rd round at home last season I wouldn’t be getting overly excited... we played them in the league cup last season crowd was about 3,000 with 800 Mackems.

That happened to us at Bolton our first season back up. Think it went out on a Russian (?) channel.
