So Wales move up winning 1 and drawing 1. England remain 10th after winning both.....

Belgium to go top. Fucking hell

Surely Argentina or Germany should be top, I know both lost last week but Belgium failed to beat Wales twice.

Hopefully at some point the fact that we keep beating sides will move us up the rankings, although im sure Sepp will find a way to dock us a few ranking points...

Wales seem to have dropped back down to 15th - is that because they lost a game?

When will these be updated?

Looking forward to seeing what utter dross we'll be below after losing 2 games!

I read this elsewhere so don't know how true this is, but last year Belgium beat Luxembourg in an official friendly game (where ranking points etc would be given) and Belgium won 5-1. However, the match was later not counted towards the ranking points as Belgium made 7 substitutions when only 6 are allowed in a friendly.

Had the relevant points been awarded than Belgium would remain in third at the next update, rather than go up to first as they will do. Makes a complete mockery of the system. One game taken away from your points and you gain positions.

It works out an average of the games you've won.

10 points for beating a good side so:

So if you beat:
Brazil 10
Germany 10
France 10
Divided by 3 =

= 10

Brazil 10
Germany 10
France 10
Luxembourg 2
= 32/4

= 8

It's definitely a system that needs to be looked at and changed but there is logic behind it.

If you've actually seen Austria, you'd know that its been deserved although I will say that they didn't have the toughest qualifying group in the world so maybe if they play stronger opposition its different? Either way they play lovely stuff.

Belgium as best team in the world sounds about right. Brazil are a shambles, Argentina aren't much better and Germany can't beat Scotland over two games and lose to shit sides like Ireland. I don't get why people are so surprised.

So Austria are now in the top 10....
And deservedly so.

If anything this thread shows our lovely community assume historically good sides to be good and shit sides to remain shit. Would be nice if you watched other games than England once in a while (especially since they're horrible to watch).

I can't believe Portugal are 4th and will probably be seeded for the draw next month. They're a horribly bland side.

If that's the case with Belgium, then Chile would be the best side in the world as Chile are currently better than Belgium.

I'm convinced Germany the way they are playing could still take Belgium, so I disagree with your statement.

I do agree on the second thing though. People just making baseless assumptions as Austria ARE indeed a good side.

Belgium lost to wales. If the rankings were a representation of which country is best at beating the smaller nations England would be number 1. But the actual test is the finals and I am suprised that a team that only made the quarter finals of the world cup and stumbled through their group is deemed the best in the world over a side that made the World Cup and Copa America finals in consecutive years.

Spot on - I've seen them three or four times over the past couple of years and they've always looked a good side.

Belgium didn't stumble to qualify.

This FIFA ranking is allways nonsense.
It does not make any sense.
USA is generally at top 10 but when USA is going to play against most of the teams in Europe (which are far lower than USA in those rankings) we must be sure that USA can not win against those teams.
I can increase these examples.

Anyone see the joke with Cape Verde, they're in the Top 40 Nations!?!! :bl:

They should just do away with it and not bother seeding nations for tournaments anymore, to win a tournament you have to beat the best anyway so there being a major group of death is tough shit. Plus it would give other nations a chance who don't usually get far.

How?

The formula is freely available on the website. Why not read it and find out?

Wales into the top 10 in the world for the first time in their history, above Spain :dk:

England one place above them in ninth.

I like seeing Wales do well, but that ranking may be a little too high!

Top 10:

1. Argentina
2. Germany
3. Belgium
4. Colombia
5. Holland
6. Brazil
7. Portugal
8. Romania
9. England
10. Wales
------------------------
11. Chile
12. Spain
13. Uruguay
14. Croatia
15. Slovakia
16. Austria
17. Italy
18. Switzerland
19. Algeria
20. Czech Republic
---------------------------
21. Ivory Coast
22. France
23. Iceland
24. Denmark
25. Ghana
26. Bosnia & H
27. Ukraine
28. Russia
29. Scotland
30. Poland
--------------------------
37. Northern Ireland
52. Republic of Ireland

These things only work as big fat well done for recent form, would be foolish for anyone to pay it too much attention. Saying that - a big fat well done to Wales!

Its official, according to FIFA, Peru is only barely worse than the Netherlands and is better than Iceland, Austria and Paraguay :D

I do think as a number though 25 is right for us, although we are NOT better than Paraguay.
