Trying to find some free video editing software for Windows that is simple to use and free. Has to be able to import and edit MKVs. Not looking for a trial version that is restricted (ie. puts a stamp over the footage, or only allows half of the audio to be exported). I just need it cut some parts out of some MKVs I have.

I thought it would be easy to find such a program, but apparently not. Any recommendations?

I use NCH software for burning cds and for opening FLAC/ALAC files. I also use their vinyl/tape to digital converter and they've never let me down. Only telling you this as they have this program and it's free if I'm not mistaken - http://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/index.html

Not sure if that's what you're looking for though.

IMovie works fine for me if you're just cutting out clips and putting them together.
