Last matchday before the winter-break begins today with my HSV @Gladbach. Damn, this season started so well with 2 wins for the HSV and Bayern under Ancelotti not at the top. And now? We're already at a relegation playoff place again (could be even #17 tomorrow if we don't win at Gladbach and damn Werder wins against Mainz (which is more probable than us getting a good result @Gladbach). Depressing....ah yes, and Bayern is of course on top again with a 9 pts gap :nw:

1/8 finals in the DFB Cup

Yesterday Schalke won 1-0 against Köln, Nürnberg (2nd Bundesliga) lost 0-2 aet against Wolfsburg, Mainz 3-1 against Stuttgart and a little surprise Paderborn (3rd Liga) won 1-0 against Ingolstadt.

Today we'll see Bayern vs Dortmund. Normally a semi-final or a final, now a last 16 match (btw: for the 7th year in a row both are playing against in the Cup). Dortmund with 2 wins in a row in the Bundesliga after installing Peter Stöger. But I don't expect this run to be extended today.

And my HSV? Already in winter break. They deserve it....:sna:

Watched Schalke last night and I was apalled by the lack of creativity and dynamism of their play. Their goal was a lucky header by Maximilian Meyer who was hoping that his deflection would have a positive effect on the inswinging corner and it somehow ended in off the post. You'd hardly see a more fortunate goal than that this season. Other than that Schalke didn't do anything. It really is a sad state of affairs that the 2nd best club in Germany, over 19 league games, can be so poor in terms of play against the worst side in the first division.

Bayern 2-0 at the break. They're not exactly trying that hard. BvB are convalescing but you still feel they wouldn't stand a chance if Bayern wanted to step up the tempo.

German football really is in a bad state all said and done. Bayern are just a tree hiding the forest (French expression).

I've been watching all Borussia Dortmund matches for six years and lately I suffer from insomia because of the poor results. The last two wins happened only due to good luck. In my opinion one third of the team should be exchanged, especially the defensive block. I also see problems with another players, except for goalkeeper.
What if Watzke made good investment for the team?

Hey, NickBVB. Welcome to the forum and especially in the German Football thread. Always nice to see foreigners interested in the Bundesliga. I hope to read more from you here in the thread in the future

Yes, you are right about the poor results at the end under Bosz. Now with Peter Stöger they seem to turn it around a bit. Although they lost to Bayern in the Cup and could easily get more than 2 in the first half, they showed spirit in the second half and could've even get a draw at the end. But you know how it is: At the end it's always Bayern, unfortunately.

btw: What do you mean with "I see problems with other players, except the goalkeeper"? Especially Roman Bürki made some fatal errors in the CL that cost Borussia at least some points (although Tottenham and Madrid would've advanced anyway). And he was criticized very hard in the media. (Or do you mean "especially" instead of "except"?

Bundesliga resumes with Bayern @ Leverkusen on Friday. Only a short winter break this season because of the World Cup.
Here's the complete matchday:

Bundesliga | Spielplan, Ergebnisse & Termine | 2017/2018

And the draw was made for the Quarterfinal of the DFB Cup (will be played on February 7th)

Eintracht Frankfurt vs FSV Mainz 05
Bayer Leverkusen vs Werder Bremen
Schalke 04 vs VfL Wolfsburg
SC Paderborn vs Bayern München

Paderborn is actually in the 3.Liga (not so long ago they played 2 seasons in the Bundesliga and then went down the following seasons. Normally they would be in the 4th tier now but due to 1860 Munich's "double relegation" from 2nd to 4th tier they can play again in the 3rd. Liga)

Top match tomorrow evening: #2 HSV vs #1 Köln (if you turn the table upside down).

Köln recently with a bit of good form. We can't afford to lose this one, even a draw is too little. At least Werder Bremen (1pt ahead at #16) won't get anything in Munich.

Anyway....I'll be there again no matter how shit the weather is actually in Hamburg (and the team). NUR DER HSV!

HSV lost 0-2. Don't you think a season or two in the Buli Zwei will do your club good in the long run, Dirk?

If one could guarantee that a season in the 2nd tier would "refresh" this club I would say "Yes". But it's not only the team that needs refreshing, it's the whole management. Today they sacked (of course) the coach Gisdol. OK, his Bundesliga record for HSV is depressing (48 matches : 14 W - 10 D- 24L) but it's not his fault that a Filip Kostic, a serbian international, can't score from 8m yesterday (even I would've done that against Timo Horn) and that a Nicolai Müller injured himself after celebrating his goal in the 2nd match and is out for 6-8 months.

btw: Funny though that after avoiding relegation (or better the relegaton playoff spot) in the last match (and even in the last minute) they extended the contract of Gisdol until Mid 2019. Of course this comes now (again) back as a boomerang and he gets a nice sum of money..for nothing.

Not wanting to rub any salts in your HSV wounds, Dirk but Werder have started 2018 alright. Bayern being their sole defeat so far and they're 2-0 up at Bayer in the Pokal inside the opening 20 minutes. Look like a confident outfit does Bremen.

2-2 now. Julian Brandt carrying a very average Leverkusen side. Extra-time beckons.

4-2 in the end for Bayer. Interesting match. Werder could've led 3 or 4 nil after 30 minutes. Not bad in the 1st half (hate to admit that). Leverkusen wasn't that bad too later but it needs some time to adjust when you're 0-2 down at home after 8 minutes.

In a few minutes I'll watch Schalke vs Wolfsburg, another live Quarterfinal match at tv.

Hopefully Berlin will win today against Mainz. 05 is actually 3 pts ahead of HSV at #16 (the relegation playoff place).
We play tomorrow against Leverkusen at home. Anything than a win is nearly useless. As I said we are 3 pts behind the relegation playoff place and even 6 pts behind the secure #15. And we only have 12 matches to play. In the last 7 years I was often worrying (in 6 of the 7 seasons) and we made it several times in the last second (like 3 years ago in the playoffs or last seasons security in the last minute of the last game). I am too old for this shit, can't take this anymore.

Well Mainz won in Berlin 2-0 so you better beat Bayer tomorrow or I'm afraid it's Buli Zwei for HSV in 18/19.

It was a bit depressing today in the stadium (only 46.000 showed up today. 7 years of relegation battle is enough for some it seems. A bit of trouble from some "fans" after the match.). I went straight at home after the match, very unusual for me but today I am too depressed.
Now it's a 6 points gap to the playoff place with only 11 matches to go:(

I think you're as good as down. Once again, I think it's a good thing for the club. True fans will make themselves heard and players who want to play for the club will stay. Chin up!

Damn, never thought that I would keep my fingers crossed for Golfsburg to win. Today's the day, they're playing in Mainz. So, of course Mainz shouldn't win (because...you know) and then it's Bruno's first match as coach for the Wölfe. Although it makes my heart bleed to see him in Volkswagen city I am happy for him that he got another Bundesliga job.

Tomorrow the "Nord-Derby" with our best friends. I'll better stop here...

'Golfsburg' hehe I like that.

Always quite liked Wolfsburg when I had my Golf GTi and they always had some funky kits.

Link doesn't work bruv.

Köln won at Leipzig 2-1 while Hamburg lost at Bremen 0-1. Both sides are now equal on points but 7 points adrift from the play-off place currently occupied by Mainz. I believe more in Köln's chances of survival than Hamburg's. Really love when a side that are destined to go down do the great escape.

Yes, another bitter loss in the 86th minute but a draw wouldn't be enough either. But we're still not mathematically eliminated so there's still hope

hey, mm, you know we have a new verb in German "hsv"

Dortmund uninspiring against Augsburg this evening (mind you the visitors lined up 541). Still some fan protest with a near-silent Westfalenstadion but not as bad as in Frankfurt last week. 1-0 currently thanks to a Reus goal.

Yes, very silent. Fans protest against the new Monday night games in the Bundesliga (which are common now for a few years in Bundesliga 2).Boring match (but who am i to complain)

Anyway 1-1actually in the last minute of regular time
