Our defence looks OK, their defence appears to be the weak link, hopefully our first three points of the season.

Gillingham fall under the bogey team category for us, that said they looked to have a better squad this time last season than this imo. Going a 1-1 bore draw which I'd happily take.

Kilgallon will go back into the centre with NKP and Tom Field will probably start at left back so not like we are absolutely fooked in defence. Would still take a draw as we are usually awful at Gillingham.

A tight affair, either 1-1 or 1-0 either way. I can see us winning this though, as previously mentioned we have a decent record against Bradford.

I've never understood the "we have an awful record at..." argument. I just don't see how it's relevant, especially when there's such a large turnover of squad members in between games.

We never seem to travel long distances well. If we go to the south east or south west we are always struggling and usually happy to come away with a point. I'm sure distance must play a part, and if not then it must be some subconscious mental thing.

No disrespect but if we are considering another challenge on promotion this season then we need to be beating the likes of Gillingham, 3-1 Gills it is then.

That's the thing though. We all thought we had a strong looking squad this time last year.
Unfortunately it turned out that most of the lazy fuckers didn't give a shit.
That, at least, seems to have been addressed.
It would be nice to see us score a goal.

'we need to be beating the likes of Gillingham'

Always a good one for the lower league bingo card!

We've spent 13 of the last 16 seasons in the same league, and the other three we were a league higher. Yet this attitude from Bradford fans comes every season without fail.

Always interested to know who 'the likes' of us are to be honest, sounds like it should be a team who've been in and around the same division as us for well over a decade or something along those lines.

Surely you get what he means though. You've been better than us in recent seasons but at the moment we are looking at trying to get a play off spot and most of your fans reckon you'll be lucky to stay up.

Are you genuinely telling me that when we were awful and you were hovering around near the top of the league that no Gillingham fan has uttered the immortal phrase 'we should be beating Bradford'?

I don't think he's talking about club size, or we should have a divine right to beat you and be above you every season. I took it as the fact most in the league think you're weaker than the last few seasons, and a lot of your fans on here seem to think your deadcerts for relegation. Therefore if we want to get promoted we need to be putting the teams at the lower end of the table away, that's how I took it anyway.

Don't agree with him though, if we lose the season isn't over, Walsall did the double over Sheff Utd didn't do them any harm.

I can't speak for all of our fans obviously, but I've never heard it. We're lower league fans, there's no 'should' at any point. I completely 'get' what he means, and you may well beat us on saturday - but surely you lot 'get' how it sounds?

There's probably ways and means of saying things.

Perhaps "Think Gillingham will be towards the bottom end this year and we we should be looking at getting 3 points from the teams down there" is more fair and comes across a lot less disrespectful.

Yep I agree with you and as I said I'd be happy with a draw.

Bit harsh on the young lad Omari Patrick, but let's save him for the last 20 if needs be. He'll work in our favour more at home, IMO.

Whilst we have a number of players missing, that starting XI is still enough to see away most sides in this league.

Scoring goals won't be an issue this season, especially when Charlie Wyke is back. Massive question marks are in defence, still. Tony McMahon needs to pull his socks up, he's had a shocking start so far.

Rather optimistic about this one! 2-0 CITY

Jones and Poleon

For all you pessimistic Bantams, why don't you avail yourselves of the 5/2 that Billy Hills are quoting us to win

Proper away performance that, a bit of time wasting, a bit scrappy but walk away with 3 hard fought points. I'd have taken a draw before the game especially when we still need two defenders and have injuries and suspensions to come back. Happy start to the season.

Gillingham look dangerous from set pieces, especially them long throws, they might be better playing with more height in the team, a Hanson or Tom Elliot would earn them a good few points this season.

That's not correct ...you know you were in League 2 in 2010

Ahh well only 1-0 but should have been more apparently, good 3 points but probably expected against the likes of Gillingham, onwards and upwards.

Poleon missed an open net, so we certainly should have had 2. No more though really, Killgallon was my MOM very good game, considering how ropey our defending is.
