Nicked from League 2.

Who's under contract? Who's out of contract? Who would you keep or get rid of?

Out of contract/ Release

Marnick Vermijl, Andy Boyle, Tommy Spurr & Ben Pringle

Leaving/ Get Rid

Lukas Nmecha & Brandon Barker - End of Loan
Chris Maxwell - Get Rid, causes too much disruption
Kevin O'Connor & Graham Burke - Cheap Irish gambles, not good enough
Callum Robinson - Would love to keep, but supposedly already a done deal to Bournemouth

Remaining Senior Squad

GK - Ripley, Rudd, Crowe
DF - Fisher, Rafferty, Clarke, Storey, Davies, Huntington, Hughes, Earl
MF - Pearson, Ledson, Johnson, Gallagher
AM/ W - Browne, Potts, Barkhuizen, Bodin, Harrop, Ginnelly
ST - Maguire, Stockley, Moult

Out of contract/ Release

Jacob Butterfield, Bradley Johnson, Craig Bryson, Marcus Olsson, David Nugent, Alex Pearce, Nick Blackman, Ashley Cole and Jonathan Mitchell.

I would have said keep Johnson but it looks as if we're signing Graeme Shinnie so BJ won't be needed. Big wages to get off the books too. As surreal as it is having Ashley Cole play for us he's obviously not the player he once was, not sure he's up for another full season either.

Leaving/ Get Rid

Mason Mount, Fiko Tomori and Harry Wilson returning to their parent clubs.
Iketchi Anya - if we can shift him but he'll probably sit in our under 23's on a mega contract until it runs out next year.
Chris Martin - that ship has sailed I'm afraid.
George Thorne - see above. Move on.
Andre Wisdom - try and recoup some of the fee we paid for him, not the 13/14 Wisdom who was class.

Remaining Senior Squad

GK - Carson, Roos (if he signs) and Ravas.
DF - Bogle, Keogh, Davies, Ambrose, Malone, Forsyth and Lowe.
MF - Huddlestone, Holmes, Bird and Evans.
AM/ W - Jozefzoon, Lawrence, Bennett and Thomas.
ST - Waghorn and Marriott.

Big summer ahead for us, Frank's got some wheeling and dealing to do.

Shinnie has had contract offers from us and Sheffield Utd according to Pete O'Rourke last week. Will see what he goes for.

Yeah far from sorted, looks like he's been down today to ours to have a gander.

Can see people wanting to sign Olkowski & Connell.

Surely you'd keep Magennis for that league?

Way I'm feeling at the moment, I'm sticking with my list. Need a clean slate including manager as well, his record in the Championship with all his clubs, is a 19% win rate

All these players are out of contract in summer and there's only Westwood and Palmer who I'd offer a new contract.
We've got 36 full pro's on books and Bruce wants to trim squad to around 24.
Shame about Kieran Lee as he's been a great player for us but his hip injury keeps returning.

L. Palmer
D. Pudil
F. Nielsen
C. O'Grady

Would also keep the young uns Neilsen & Preston.
Surely worth another couple of years, shouldn't be on too much and still young enough to develop.
As you say sadly Lee appears finished. Great player when fit.
Depending if he'd take a drop in wages would love to try to get Hooper fit and keep him, on his current wages it's too much of a gamble with his fitness.

I'd drive you Boyd down there myself, wouldn't even ask for the petrol money.
Way past his best now, no pace, downgrade from Wallace, who was also past his best.

I can see Bruce giving Boyd another year, clearly a player he trusts.

Had no idea Wednesday had signed Chris O'Grady back.

He played well Tuesday and does generally try, but well past his best now, not for me, clear out and release his wages for someone younger

Totally agree, as said above there's only Westwood and Palmer who I'd really like to keep, Hooper I'd love to stay but that's more heart over head, best striker I've seen in my lifetime at Wednesday but like Kieran Lee spends more time in the medical room these days.

Out of contract
K. Westwood- Keep, one of best keepers in the league and worth the wage.
L. Palmer- Keep, solid enough and for a similar standard of back up be more costly to replace.
D. Pudil- Release, best days behind him. Forget he existed in all honesty.
F. Nielsen- Release, not going to make it.
C. O'Grady- Release, same as Nielsen and doesn't look big enough for a centre back.
K. Lee- Release, sadly one of my favourite players but over a year out, can't justify it.
D. Jones- Release, legs have gone and is a big wage off the books.
A. Abdi- Release, was buzzing when we signed him. Would love to know whats gone off.
M. Matias- Release, not shown enough but there's a good player in there. Wages off the books
G. Boyd - Release, past it and on a big wage. Honest enough pro though.
F. Preston- Release, not likely to make it now at his age.
G. Hooper- Release, same as Lee. We'd give him 2 years and he'll break down in September.

That would leave us with 19 first team players with a few more under 23's still under contract like Ash Baker, Connor Kirby and Jack Stobbs.

Would definitely require some incoming signings, Hector and Aarons will most likely be targets to bring back for Bruce, potentially Lazaar and Onomah too with their loan spells being ravaged by injury. Very top heavy with forwards, wouldn't be surprised to see 2 of Joao, Forestieri, Winnall or Rhodes to be sold on to release funds to strengthen midfield and centre back.

Goalkeepers-
Kieren Westwood
Cameron Dawson
Joe Wildsmith

Defenders-
Liam Palmer
Dominic Iorfa
Tom Lees
Jordan Thorniley
Joost Van Aken
Morgan Fox
Matt Penney

Midfielders/Wingers
Barry Bannan
Sam Hutchinson
Adam Reach
Joey Pelupessy

Forwards-
Steven Fletcher
Jordan Rhodes
Sam Winnall
Atdhe Nuhiu
Lucas Joao
Fernando Forestieri

Not quite the same as who I would want to keep or get rid of but here is our released/retained (offered contracts to) list.

Released

Jonny Williams - Can’t afford him. Expect he’ll sign for another Championship club soon enough.

Josh Parker - Should find a L1 club easily enough.

Ben Reeves - Will find it even easier to find a L1 club than Parker. Surprised we’ve released him actually.

Nicky Ajose - L2 most likely. L1 if he’s lucky.

Igor Vetokele - Shame, but on a wedge and injury prone. Probably leaves the country.

Mark Marshall - L1.

Offered contracts

Joe Aribo - Chancing our arm I suspect. Expect he’ll be signing for a PL side.

Patrick Bauer - Depends what other offers he gets but makes little sense in joining any of the sides he’s been linked with.

Tariqe Fosu - Fuck knows what this about. Had one good season but terrible attitude and hasn’t trained since beginning of April. Don’t care if he signs or not.

Jake Forster-Caskey - Injured all of last season so can’t see there being much interest. Expect him to sign.

Is Aribo that good? I’ve never understood the hype when I’ve watched you but he seems to have a fair amount of hype surrounding him.

Yeah, he’s proper quality and will only get better.

When have you seen him this season out of interest?

We’ve been on tele 4 times. He was outstanding against Portsmouth and man of the match I believe, scored against Doncaster in the first leg of the play-offs, didn’t do much in the second leg granted and then was involved in both our goals against Sunderland, pretty instrumental to the first one.

Man City, Arsenal, Villa, Southampton, Rangers and Celtic all believed to be interested. No way he’ll be here next season.

Only the playoff games. Saw him last season as well, again in the playoffs, though think he may have only played one leg?

It’s only a sample size so not writing him off, sure he must be good I’ve just never really thought he stood out.

Can’t remember whether he played last years or not now to be honest, feels like a lifetime ago but yeah, he’s been pretty unplayable this season, particularly the second half of it .

Would be lovely to get another season out of him now in a higher division but unfortunately, that just doesn’t happen anymore when bigger clubs come sniffing.

Fosu looked great in the first game against us I thought, bit odd he’s fallen out of favour so must be something more to it as clearly talented. I’d guess you’re just making sure you you get some compensation from offering him a new deal perhaps.

Aribo is quality, a bit like a slightly more refined Pelly for us I thought on the few games I saw him in. Whether he is premier league class is another matter but certainly top championship clubs should be taking a hard look at him.

Fosu was brilliant last season, completely outshone Holmes. The talent is clearly there but obviously the attitude isn’t, hasn’t trained since the beginning of April and was nowhere to be seen on Sunday despite others who have been frozen out being there to support and celebrate with the team.

Local journo seems to think he’s only been offered a contract with compensation in mind, as you say. He probably won’t even sign it.

Aribo obviously isn’t ready to play Premier League football yet, but is only 22 and will only get better playing with better players.

My thoughts on the current Cardiff team:

Neil Etheridge - keep at all costs
Lee Peltier - keep
Joe Bennett - keep
Sean Morrison (captain) - keep at all costs
Bruno Ecuele Manga - keep
Jazz Richards - get rid, good enough player but needs a new challenge
Joe Ralls - keep, dependable enough
Danny Ward - 50/50. If there's a better option, get rid, but he's solid enough
Kenneth Zohore - 50/50. If Assombolonga signs, then get rid
Josh Murphy - keep at all costs
Alex Smithies - get rid, few Championship sides want him (Birmingham City are very keen)
Callum Paterson - keep, our Mr. Versatile
Bobby Reid - keep at all costs
Leandro Bacuna - keep
Matthew Connolly - get rid, hasn't played many games for us - needs a new challenge
Greg Cunningham - keep as back up, get rid if there's a better option
Nathaniel Mendez-Laing - keep
Loïc Damour - get rid, not an automatic starter and we have better options
Sol Bamba - 50/50, works hard and is a team player but not the best defender we have
Gary Madine - get rid, is not in the first team plans and should move on
Omar Bogle - get rid (in fact I think he may be going to Birmingham City soon)
Rhys Healey - get rid, apparently Blackpool are interested in buying him
Junior Hoilett - keep
James Waite - keep but loan out
Cameron Coxe - keep but loan out or emergency cover at FB
Ciaron Brown - get rid
Lloyd Humphries - keep but loan out
Lee Tomlin - get rid
Joe Day - just signed, keep
Will Vaulks - just signed, keep
Curtis Nelson - just signed, keep
