I haven't had a look as yet but............if you haven't watched it how do you know it is 'Police Propaganda' ? Do you not think it is fair to look at both sides of the equation rather than dismissing it ?

This is not how the Politics section of this website operates, Leo.

That side of the equation is represented more than adequately. The Met's line ain't suppressed now is it, quite the opposite in fact.

I wasn't being entirely serious. However there are plenty of shows out there on TV every day that show our fearless and honest police upholding the law of the land so I think they're are well represented.

STOP AND SEARCH - THIS COULD BE THE REASON WHY ????? MINORITIES COMMIT MOST OF THE CRIMES
Figures from the Office for National Statistics showed that in 2007 an estimated 10.6 percent of London's population of 7,556,900 were black.Evidence shows that the black population in London boroughs increases with the level of deprivation, and that the level of crime also increases with deprivation, such that "It is clear that ethnicity, deprivation, victimisation and offending are closely and intricately inter-related".

In June 2010 The Sunday Telegraph, through a Freedom of Information Act request, obtained statistics on accusations of crime broken down by race from the Metropolitan Police Service. The figures showed that the majority of males who were accused of violent crimes in 2009–10 were black. Of the recorded 18,091 such accusations against males, 54 percent accused of street crimes were black; for robbery, 59 percent; and for gun crimes, 67 percent. Robbery, drug use, and gang violence have been associated with black people since the 1960s. In the 1980s and 1990s, the police associated robbery with black people. In 1995, the Metropolitan Police commissioner Paul Condon said that the majority of robberies in London were committed by black people.

Street crimes include muggings, assault with intent to rob, and snatching property. Black males accounted for 29 percent of the male victims of gun crime and 24 percent of the male victims of knife crime. Similar statistics were recorded for females. On knife crime, 45 percent of suspected female perpetrators were black; for gun crime, 58 percent; and for robberies, 52 percent.

Operation Trident was set up in March 1998 by the Metropolitan Police to investigate gun crime in London's black community after black-on-black shootings in Lambeth and Brent.

Between April 2005 and January 2006, figures from the Metropolitan Police Service showed that black people accounted for 46 percent of car-crime arrests generated by automatic number plate recognition cameras.

In London in 2006, 75% of the victims of gun crime and 79% of the suspects were "from the African/Caribbean community."

It's quite upsetting how people try so hard to be anti-police. I don't think I've come across a bad police officer yet, and they have a more difficult job than most of us. I think might we have a few Zarna Joshis on this board.

In all fairness i think these anti-police types are brainwashed on social media and think its cool to be anti police.

Where would be without these police heroes?

Yes i call them heroes because that's what they are in my eyes.

The fact that you've not come across a bad copper yet is probably the reason why you hold that view.

I don't go as far to put all police officers in the same bracket and of course I have come to me across genuinely good ones. Sadly as with all professions there are some who are awful power hungry individuals who love to weild said power over the rest of us. My experience of the police is through both my job and personal experience.

Of course there's areas where the service can improve, but I think on the whole they do a good job. I like to think we've got one of the best police services in the world. You only have to look at the US, where the stories of police brutality and needless shootings are off the scale. Or nations where there's secret police doing God knows what to people for having the wrong beliefs or secure orientation. On the whole I think we're pretty lucky and we do well from our police service

I was stabbed in the head with a broken bottle 2 years ago, unprovoked attack on a friend, I pulled my friend away when I saw the bottle and he smashed it on another guy's head and stabbed me in the back of the head with it.

Police were shite. Fucked about for ages to start, didn't believe me when I said I hadn't been drinking, haven't contacted me once since the initial incident, I've had to go chasing it all myself to find out what happened. When I did find out, I found that the police fucked up the paperwork, the court date was cancelled, and as far as I know, the guy who stabbed me in the head, a man who killed someone in 2003, is walking the streets. I have plenty of reason to dislike the police officers involved.

Yet because I am not a moron I don't apply that experience across all police officers.

I think any sort of anecdotal quasi-empirical understanding of the police is insufficient by itself. I am more concerned with the police and their relationship to the state, that they are only necessary to protect the state, private property and the privileged, and that those considerations are placed above everything else. I am not against 'policing' in its decentralised, limited and democratic form, but then this is only possible in a post-capitalist society. In the mean time they form the vanguard of the worst excesses of the capitalist state and if I am being kind I have nothing but antipathy for anyone who would be complicit in that, consciously or otherwise.

With the police it's the coordinated tampering with evidence like we saw after Hillsborough or at Orgreave that shows you then nature of the organisation when push comes to shove. The vast majority of individual officers did join up to protect and serve I bet but as an institution it's still riddled with the same sort of problems and a culture of backing their own even when in the wrong.
