Wow, massive last 16 game.

Italy have progressed from their group as winners and made loads of changes for their final game, so should be in pretty good shape heading into this one.

Spain on the other hand looked pretty formidable until they took their eye off the ball and got beaten by Croatia, meaning they now face a tough route to the final if they are to retain their title.

This game should be a cracker and its on right before the England game as well. So strap yourself in on Monday and get ready for a huge evening of football.

I doubt it'll be a great game. Think it'll be a chess match, with both teams spending the whole game trying to carefully pick each other apart. Think Spain will edge it 1-0.

I'd bloody love to see the Italians progress here. I think they've got a good chance of doing just that too, Spain aren't as impressive as in previous tournaments.

3 at the back causes problems for some teams attacking set up. I'd be surprised if Morata could get the better of Chiellini. Italy just don't look all that strong in the mid. Fullbacks (at club level) as wingbacks works but it's a shame not to see plaers like Candreva and Insigne starting due to wingbacks playing.

Chiellini scores. As said Spain can't get to grips with playing against a back 3. Need to change their shape a bit.

Giaccherini looks a different player to the guy who (barely) played for Sunderland. I wonder if Big Sam will be thinking about bringing him back into the fold. Although Conte apparently wants him at Chelsea.

Good first half from Italy, solid at the back making Spain lool clueless going forward. Changes definitely needed for Spain if they wanna get back into it, Italy play like this all tournament they will take some beating.

Nolito off. Aduriz on. Not sure how they're gonna set up now. 2 up top with Alba providing the width? Cos Morata and Aduriz stick central usually.

Seems like a serious lack of energy in this Spain side, I think they'd fare far better with Koke and Thiago playing instead of Fabregas and Silva, who haven't had the best of seasons.

Lucas Vasquez on for Morata, that should give them something different.

Aduriz goes off injured. How's yer luck?

Insigne on for Italy. It'd be nice if he could get in the game on the break.

We all like to moan a bit about England players who have been picked that have been out of form, but how the fuck Darmian is getting games for Italy after the season he's had.

Not bad for the worst squad Italy have ever sent to a major tournament.

He will probably be rubbing his hands together and thinking of asking 30m for him.
Thinking of starting a thread about warm weather players

Love to see managers going nuts, going to be a good addition to the premier league.

Well that's that Italy through to the quarters to face Germany, definite serious contenders now such a mean defence, yet so dangerous going forward. The way they've just managed that game brilliantly, tactically superb. Spain are on a downward spiral with the looks of it, a serious lack of pace in their squad and the next batch of players don't seem anywhere near as what we've been used too.

Henry talks some poop doesn't he? "I don't think we've seen that togetherness from an other team" You've harped on about the likes of Iceland, Wales and others having that togetherness, or did he forget?

It's not all about togetherness for me, it's about the fact that a lot of these players know eachother from club level, they know the manager from club level, so they gel instantly in important positions. The back 3 are Juve, keeper Juve, Giaccherini is former Juve, under Conte. That gives them a solid unit and understanding to base their attacks. The system is also huge. I think the have better players on the bench than the starting line up but for the system they are sacrificed. Something the likes of, I dunno let's just say a random team... England, do not do.

It was said Italy have the worse squad they've had in years..well certainly not on that evidence.

Great performance - the tie v Germany should be a cracker.

Chelsea fans must be pleased/encouraged with how Conte has set up his side.

Good game that. Italy got the right result.

What does Del Bosque has to do to get the boot? Are Spain severely lacking in decent up-and-coming managers?
