Yep.

Just waiting for the inevitable, which is the customary Port Vale fan laughing at us being in non league now

Not seen any Valiants laugh at that to be honest.

Happened once or twice on here and of course on twitter. But I don't mind really. I find that if you take the piss out of misfortune much, it'll come full circle. Nothing against Vale and I wouldn't wish National League hell on you or anyone else.

Strange, only thing i've seen recently is brotherhood over BLK!

So it's not the club, it's the club's fans
Treated appallingly by stewards last time we played Swindon. I wrote a letter of complaint to the chairman at the time, but surprise surprise I never got a reply. Also some Chester fans were thrown out for standing when most of the Swindon fans were standing. Chester fans also charged £20 when it was £15 for home fans. (about 10/11 years ago)

You’ll be glad to know it’s now £23 for everyone!

It's looking increasingly likely that it's going to be a much more open relegation battle this season, unlike quite a few recent seasons when only 3 or 4 sides at the most looked like genuine relegation contenders.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - it's unwise to rule out anybody at this stage. Loads of L2 fans were saying Macc didn't stand a chance and that they were on for a record low points total and the like. A couple of one nil wins and now they're only 4 pts behind Cheltenham.

Bodweijn may be one of County's better players but surely there is enough quality in that squad for Ardley to change things around. I know I'm stating the obvious but on paper at least, their squad is much stronger than the likes of us, Cheltenham, Morecambe , Yeovil and the other strugglers. I think they'll be fine in the end.

Far too many sides do seem to me to be much of a muchness, and the one thing they've got in common is a poor back line and a lack of a decent finisher.
Bury last season mate, should have been pushing for play offs at least with that squad but we just did not care.

Chesterfield didn't have a bad squad on paper either. In fact didn't a couple end up at County!

Yes but only two. One expected to do great things other a squad player.

Now we’ve appointed a proper manager who knows lower league football we’ll be leaving this thread....... in January

I seem to recall that their fans were cautiously optimistic that they'd do alright before the season began.

Bury fans on the other hand were saying that if we avoided a Chesterfield it'd be a good season. Still trying to avoid getting my hopes up, there is a lot of football still to play. But thus far it looks likely we will avoid doing a Chesterfield.

When Jack Lester started doing well and we equalised in the last minute against them at home last season their fans on "bobs board" claimed they'd finish above us.

The gap ended up being 34 points.

A new manager with a badly ran club doesn't always turn things around, but time will tell for County

Hardly a likely scenario though is it.

After crossing that roundabout thing twice in a day without dying I was quite happy to get into the ground.

I still can't comprehend how things ended up so badly for them.

Yes, that system is a joke. But at the same time, it raises a serious point about ownership of football clubs. It's a terrible idea for any businessman to own a football club. Unless you are in the top flight, you will lose money if you invest in or buy a football club. And most that do turn out a profit only make meagre gains.

Yes, some businessman will take the hit on a football front but make it back through the profits of their other companies. But once you subtract the football losses from the business profits, I'm sure many an owner will ask "why do I continue to invest money in this losing enterprise? This makes no business sense". Why do so many local owners sell up? Because they are fed up losing money and can't justify the continued investment. They made their money through smart investments and by generating profits, neither of which football clubs bring.

And when they do sell up, who is out there waiting to buy? Well, it won't be anyone with an interest in the club, because lets face it, how many rich people willing to invest in football clubs that they genuinely care about the club are available?

So what does that leave you? Well, once you take out those with the finances and/or the interest and/or the knowledge of how to run a football club, the only ones left are the shysters who think they can make a quick buck and then bolt, or those who have the money but have zero knowledge about football.

Yes, the fit and proper test should stop the crooked and/or the incompetent from owning football clubs. But what's the alternative? If the current owners want to sell up and they are barred from selling to an individual with a less than stellar background, the only alternative is administration. Which is even worse, as those that are owed don't get paid, plus the club is gutted and usually drops several leagues, thereby reducing it's value and assets.

Football needs to take a long hard look at why so many lower league teams are taken over by suspect individuals. Then once they identify the problem, they can do something about it.

That's the FA and their "fit and proper" test for you

I was more referring to last season on the pitch.
With all the question marks on our chairman I am hardly in a position to comment on Allen at Chesterfield.

Our form of late is relegation form.

Whilst our league position is reasonably healthy, the recent form and the likelihood that we’ll be weakening the squad in January, I don’t think it’s a given that we’ll stay out of trouble this season.

Probably worth flinging bit of loose change on it at 50/1.

There's a direct correlation with Carlisle's fan being more happy when you're shit anyway:lol:

It's been fun guys.

Bye.

Don’t give up hope yet Tom, we are showing few signs of wanting to overhaul you :D

Big battle of the bottom two coming up on Boxing Day - blow for Macc with Durrell ruled out for a few more weeks?

Macc looked very solid at the back with the new fella they’ve signed to be fair. I’d say they could grind their way out of it.

Barnet (multiple times)
Halifax
Chester
York City
Darlington
Torquay
Aldershot

and that's just off the top of my head.

Going back to 2002/3 when the Conference playoffs were introduced, 24 of the teams promoted from non-league are still league teams, while only 8 are back in non-league (and that includes Barnet twice, so only 7 really).

Four of the six teams promoted between 97 and 2002 went back down soon after they were promoted. Halifax, Kidderminster, Rushden and Diamonds and Boston and the other two, Macclesfield and Cheltenham have both spent some time back down in non-league.

Before then, there was a spate of teams promoted between 87 and 93 who had staying power, which includes Colchester, Lincoln and Wycombe. Outside those dates, teams weren't promoted due to not meeting ground regulations.
