I have to hand it to Jim Bentley. After escaping the drop last season only due to our employing Mark McGhee and then Graham Westley as our manager and the implementation of the Morecambe-Coventry non-aggression pact on the last day of the season and with the Shrimpers seemingly in financial turmoil at that point, it seemed that their time in League 2 was up and that they would suffer their first ever relegation as a club. Yet they have survived comfortably this time and continue to defy the odds.

We've dropped 5 points at home this season from positions where we had a man advantage. Only ourselves to blame, however our new manager said after yesterday's game that Colchester have a man sent off disrupted the rhythm of our game....

Must be related to a Stoke fan who when we recently came from behind with 10 men to win at Northampton , rang the radio phone in 2 days later to belittle our achievement.

Playing with 10 men makes no difference any more as teams can use 3 subs he said.

They aren't all locked up

We have to absolutely win at home to Grimsby and hope Macc and Yeovil lose.
We have no chance going into the game at Swindon behind one or both of them.

Destined to be a Notts great escape in my eyes given they're synonymous with them. Just think Macc lack the quality up top to send both of them down and I can see Notts winning the final two.

Yeovil are absolute no hopers going off Friday's performance. I can't see them staying up but mind you, Carlisle love ending bad runs I guess. And form goes out of the window when one team desperately needs a win on the final day...

I actually think we might win both. Very little to base this on, but hey. I think Macc might still get four from their two and do it anyway, though.

I think there should be playouts. Bottom team goes down and next 4 play 2 legs, 20 v 23 and 21 v 22, winners stay up losers play each other at Wembley to decide who stays up. Would add excitement at the bottom and bring some useful funds in even for the relegated team.

Christ! Rewarded with a Wembley day out for failure.

Only thing I’d advocate is maybe third bottom going into the play offs with the 3rd-4th-5th-6th and 7th in the National League and having a two up two down automatic.

So under the new system:

4th v 7th
5th v 6th

Winners away to 3rd and 22nd in L2 in semis

Sorry Notts but we won the other day, and we have winning streaks and losing streaks so unfortunately for you we will be winning our last two games it looks like.

That sounds amazing. The standard of football between us and Macclesfield over two legs would be breathtaking....!

Rhys Browne is out for the rest of the season with a hammy. Gary Warrren is out as well, as is Josh Grant. This means we have 4 fit defenders including an academy youngster who's played 2 or 3 games.

If only we had fit, experienced defenders to call on like, say, Carl Dickinson or Craig Alcock....

If the last few games are anything to go by, none of the 3 will win again. All common sense suggests that Macc are going to stay up, but football can be fucking weird at this time of the season.

Let’s hope so.

Its so open, Yeovil get a shock win, Notts fail to win and Macc fail to win then they are in the box seat to get out... it literally is so open. Yeovil's GD is their main hope at the moment. Northampton were dire against us a few weeks back, Vale have had their worst home season ever in terms of defeats and Grimsby have been terrible lately. Couldn't call it at the moment.

I still expect us to finish in the bottom two, and from past histories we've only ever finished bottom when being relegated - though we have only ever been relegated twice.

My bigger concern is that if/when we do go down is that it will be the end of us. There are too many rumours going around of our dire finances that would result in the conference saying "nah, yeah, nah, fuck off out of our leagues" and us going to the wall. Give it a week and I'm sure we'll have missed paying all/some wages again.

I could be completely wrong but at this moment in time, the only way I see my club surviving not just in this league, but in its entirety, is by picking up enough points in the next two weeks.

Ah well, strangely looking forward to going to Vale Park on Saturday, even if last time I went with Macc I was having a half time piss and heard a load of commotion outside, looked out the window and there were two smackheads slumped against the wall, needles still in, going mental at each other! We were very close to relegation that day too, in fact I think George Donnelly's penalty is still rising and has just passed Mars!!

Personally I will hold Christy Pym responsible if we go down. Made an excellent save in Exeter’s last gasp 10-man win at Meadow Lane, then got himself stupidly sent off before their game with Macc, allowing his useless deputy to take his place between the sticks and concede three.

Whereas we have already began plans to have a Christy Pym statue built outside the town hall, should we be able to commemorate such a momentous season.

I think Notts will only have to score a single goal to win as we have very little up front with Thomas and Dennis gone. I'm sad to say that I can't see you winning twice to stay up. Funny old game though, innit ducks.

Just to throw interest into the mix, the weather forecast is shocking here tomorrow with torrential rain and gale force winds. Our pitch does not cope with extreme weather, so it would not surprise me if this was postponed. Presumably it would have to be played on Tuesday night if so?

Would be severely tinpot having the penultimate game of the season postponed. I say to save any embarrassment, just let us take the points and no one will ask any questions when they see a random Tuesday night league 2 fixture next week.

Terrible weather here, but supposedly clearing by lunch. I would say its 50/50 if the game goes ahead.

Have to fancy Macclesfield now especially with the goal difference advantage meaning a draw will be enough.

Yep, commiserations to Yeovil.

Left it far too long to sack Way (although results seem to have improved anyway).

We decided to be kind to you today by letting you celebrate your safety in front of your home supporters next week instead.

You’re welcome.

Commiserations to Yeovil, I'm sure you'll be back soon.

However, I hope this Yeovil fan enjoys his lemons - football can be a right b*tch at times
