Good deadline day for us, bringing in Forest striker Virgil Gomis, boro defender Sam Stubbs, and Coventry captain Michael Doyle in a borderline coup. The latter instantly proved his worth with a MOTM display against Lincoln and with him and Jim O’Brien in the centre of the park we finally have some b*llocks. Just hope it’s not too late!

We signed Ben Liddle (midfielder) on loan from Middlesbrough and loaned out Tav Campbell to Gillingham.

So since the site went down we have done some good business, Butcher to Dundee, Anderson contract cancelled and Mirfin/OJS both out on loan.

Brought in Ben Turner (our only cover for three CBs places) who is a really good player, and also brought in Willem Tomlinson apparently last minute as he was due at Exeter, who I know nothing about but is highly rated. Both came free.

That leaves a good squad size of about 23 but we have quite a few injuries including one or two guaranteed starters (White, Bobby) out for the entire season, not to mention Macdonald, Davies, Graham, all out.

No news from this site as to whether it's been transferred to a new server though.

We brought in Lee Angol on loan from Shrewsbury and Matt Gilks from Scunny on a free.

In the end, we had to bring in a third 'keeper, which DC was trying to avoid doing, because Vickers still isn't right and it had to be a free because a loan would've taken us to 7. Gilks has played in the PL with Eardley and Shackell before and kept 17 clean sheets in L1 for Scunny last season.

The signing of Angol didn't go down too well amongst some because he 'chose' Mansfield over Lincoln a couple of years back. Wasn't quite like that, but it doesn't help when some numpties were expecting an Eisa/Hylton/Hawkins type of striker coming in for some bizarre reason. Firstly, the £££ associated with them deals were never going to make them realistic targets this season and secondly, them sort of strikers don't sign to be a number 2 striker in the league (or two in Eisa's case) below where they're at.

Squad of 24, bloated by two because of a third 'keeper and Sam Habergham not playing this season and had to undergo what will hopefully be career saving surgery last week. We were due to sell a squad player, rumoured to be James Wilson, but Bolger and Bostwick picked up injuries at Bury so it didn't happen (good job as well because Bolger missed Notts and Bostwick went off injured).

January overall was 5 loans out, 5 loans in, 2 permanent out, 2 permanent in and cover in positions is exactly the same as the start of January, too.

Theo Robinson - 30 year old striker from Southend on loan until the end of the season. We desperately need goals and Robinson seems to know where the goal is at league 2 level. Signed at 11pm on deadline day which added an element of excitement!
That was some years ago, though (10/11 years?)!

He did well for us here in the NL. Only scored goal in the FA Cup. In league game his finishing was terrible. Not a bad player, though.

Once he got up to speed, he was good at running the channels, holding the ball up and bringing others into play. Loved to be offside as well. Not quite Luke Rodgers levels.

This is interesting... https://www.cheshire-live.co.uk/sport/football/crewe-alex-trialists-abroad-invited-15784858

It got leaked to fans that allegedly Smurf has gone above the managements head (Aspin) to bring two Dutch lads who'd come through Ajax academy, some deal with an agent and these were now playing in the Spanish 6th tier causing huge fury from the fan base as to us looking this low (fans had suggested they had heard they were awful of players).

Assume its these two that then ended up at Alex?

Since the site has been down, we've signed Stelios Demetriou from Ross County, Zak Jules previously of Shrewsbury, Brice Ntambwe from Partick Thistle, Liandro Martis from Leicester, Shamir Mullings from Maidstone and Botti Biabi on loan from Swansea.

And Shaun Goater has come in as a coach.

10 players signed by Sol in total.

Based on reviews of Mullings and his previous 4 days at the club I'd be happy if he never features for us, despite our need for height up front.

We got Kristian Dennis til the end of the season, which I’m pretty pleased about, as long as we’re not paying most of his wages.
I'd imagine he's on a fair whack (for us), but looking at our outs and ins as a whole I'd also imagine the budget book has been balanced accordingly. I'm not 100% convinced on Dennis as a player, but in a season that is looking increasingly like we're going neither up nor down I'm happy he's here and has half a season to show us what he's capable of as it essentially doesn't matter if it proves to be a poor loan signing. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong though and we can sign him up permanently. Really pleased with our Jan window. Probably our best one for a long time.

We brought in Rakish Bingham - no more needs to be said.
The disaster of Cheltenham signing Bingham ahead of us prior to saturday's match was only slightly softened by the snow giving us time to recover from the blow before our rearranged fixture on 19/2.

The absence of a Jabo style signing to play when Jabo is broken is a big problem. Jabo staying to run down his contract, rather than getting to join Keith Curle's borderline relegation rivals at Cobblers, was a modest boost. Hopefully we can get 10 games and a few match winning goals out of him.

Largely thanks to Colin Calderwood's contacts and reputation, We've made 4 half decent loan signings - 2 strikers a midfielder and a potential first choice left back/wingback.

Our youngsters are out on loan preparing to bail us out in March/April.

Newport paid a fee for Ade Azeez!!!!!!

Trickett-Smith is absolutely bizarre. I worked with his dad. Was a shining light at Liverpool as a youngster, only have to google him and he was the best thing since sliced bread. Then went to America.
Then back to Leek Town in the 8th tier, signed by us only to be loaned back, really weird piece of business.

Should have stayed at Gresty Road. Silly career move when he went to Liverpool, though I’m sure he did quite well financially. He’d be an established league player by now, where abouts in the four divisions is debatable but he wasn’t a million miles from our first team when he left. A proper lesson in not following the pound signs*.

*I’d definitely have taken the money at his age.

So on deadline day we brought in.......

Tyler Curran - 18 year old CB from Southend on a permanent deal. Raw and one for the future clearly.

Cameron McGlip - a 20 year old Australian/Scottish Centre Back/CM from Birmingham. There were rumours that Birmingham wanted to keep him but couldn't afford to. He joins on a permanent deal.

Kyle Bennett - 28 year old diminutive winger from Bristol Rovers. Rovers fans generally think he's crap but Pompey fans say he was great when they got promoted from league 2. Hopefully we see more of his Pompey form than his Rovers form!!

Theo Robinson - 30 year old striker from Southend on loan until the end of the season. We desperately need goals and Robinson seems to know where the goal is at league 2 level. Signed at 11pm on deadline day which added an element of excitement!

I'm quite pleased with our business. We have 6 loanees (despite Wellens saying he prefers permanent deals) but have also signed players permanently - looking more for next season, (which is positive) and the 2 players we brought in on deadline day bring experience, and actually look like they are more on trial, rather than random players from premier league clubs that are generally not particularly great. We appear to be bucking the trend that a lot of league 2 sides follow. Whether that works or not, time will tell.
Bennett is definitely not crap and can be a very good player on his day. Problem was he was so in & out in games he became a real luxury . I hope he does well for you and if you asked me "Would we want him back ? " The answer would be an emphatic no.

Its an interesting signing, one that may pay off one that may not... he was a bit unlucky as when Vale tweeted about the next signing at the time it was expected Marc Richards so fans lost their shit when its this guy we've not heard off from Leek!

Obviously has something about him though so worth a look I guess.

Thanks George. Where is he best deployed? What kind of player is he exactly? Best and worst attributes etc?

Big money earners out. Vincelot released and signed for Shrewsbury where he has now done his knee and maybe out for the season. Connelly sold (probably for a pittance) to Dundee. Seems he wanted to be nearer his family (he's Northern Irish but his wife is Scottish). Mark Randall released on a mutual. I have no idea where he will be going.

Incoming! Matty Willock from Manure. 22 year old midfielder Every loan he has had has been terminated early! Ibrahim Meite after his release from Cardiff. We had him on loan last season and he looked to be getting into it before his loan ended. He then had some sort of car crash and it appears he hasn't played since he left us.

Connelly going is a loss but Randall and Vincelot were not playing so no loss as such. Incoming is not anything to get excited about although Willock could be something.

Only brought in Wolves young striker Donovan Wilson on deadline day. Was at Port Vale last season for a bit but only one start, however he did score for them off the bench. Been on loan in the Spanish third tier since and did well, so we will see how he gets on.

It also looks like we were in poll position to sign Willem Tomlinson after he left Blackburn but Mansfield nipped in to get him instead. A shame as we need another midfield option IMO.

Overall a solid window despite losing Stockley. Kane Wilson and Randell Williams have definitely been strong signings plus Ryan Bowman will do fine.

On a separate note we also had fans e or ting unrealistic expectations too, it’s quite amusing.

Not too bothered about the Angol signing. He'll do a job from off the bench, but won't start many games. I think he'll be a short term solution, personally, I can't see us signing him beyond the loan unless he does exceptionally well.

Overall pretty happy with our January business, we certainly look stronger on paper. Danny Rowe easily the pick of the bunch who has looked immense so far. Him, Andrade and Anderson are a frightening attacking midfield.

Confirmed that we lost out on Willem Tomlinson because he was offered more money by Mansfield. Clearly the Troy Brown interview saying that he loves it down here because its close to 6 great beaches didn't cut much mustard.

Someone said our end it’s because he wanted to be closer to home, but maybe the money did make the difference.

Think Rowe is out of contract at the end of this season. If Fylde don’t go up, will he move on? Rovers put in a bid at the start of the season, which was reportedly not much more than Oldham’s, no surprise it got rejected.

His deal expires in the summer but Fylde have the option to extend it by a further 12 months, which they'll obviously do. Cheltenham had £175k turned down during the summer.
