Didn't know that in fairness. No denying both were very talented and far, far too good for non league.

I think Green will suit us as we've missed a proper work horse upfront, only player we have like that is Harry Cardwell who is nowhere near good enough. Maybe he'll improve having a senior player in the same vein to work with. Also a 10-12 goal return isn't terrible as long as there are goals coming from elsewhere which we still need to address. We need some major signings in the creativity role.

Like I said I’ll be surprised if Green is not closer to 20 than 10 goals if he’s fit all season.

Hearn was a top Conference North goal scorer for Alfreton , and I think the fact he only ended up at Grimsby afterwards (where he did brilliantly) speaks volumes, although I think he had it in him to be a half decent L2 player admittedly.

Yeah, I know how many. It was more of a rhetorical question to highlight my point that it was hardly any mate.
Which backs up my point, there's a lot of average players about nowadays and we as fans seem to just accept it. Maybe it's because the game has changed, maybe the quality just isn't around. Even if you had two strikers score 10-12 each, that's just 24 coming from your front pair, you'd still need another 50+ goals from across the rest of the team to compete at the top of the table.

You do realise the reason Hearn never went higher was because he ruptured his achilles tendon, right? He could have gone higher than L2 if it weren't for that. That injury was easily the most devastating injury I remember a Town player suffering in my time, in terms of wasted/lost talent. It's not fair to judge him on anything post-11/12 season really.

Yeah, I guess you have a point. You can look at it both ways, in my opinion. The amount of strikers that we seem to have that struggle to even hit 5-10 goals really takes its toll after while, though!

I’m surprised nobody took him other than Grimsby after his scoring record with Alfreton is my point - at regional level, someone like Peterborough is usually all over a player like that.

True, I think Peterborough were interested when we were but they spent about 500k on Ajose and another striker (?) that pre-season. They were also in the Championship at that point too, and I'd guess they do the majority of their non-league recruitment when they're in L1.

Need I also remind you that Hearn was at one point Chelsea bound?

The Fishy getting into hype mode about possibility of and Embleton return and/or Bali Mumba coming in on loan. A fresh Embleton alongside Hess and Whitehouse in the middle is actually worth getting excited for.

Signing Embleton permanently would be a top bit of business at this level but not sure I see that one happening. I think it's more likely now Sunderland have gone up, in terms of him getting game time. I don't think he's Championship level yet but no doubt he has the potential. I'd imagine he'd have at least some interest from elsewhere though. Green states that we seem to be going for it this year, could be just the usual new signing talk but maybe Jolley is being backed which would make those links we had with the likes of Devitt and Cook a little more believable.

So they did, I even watched it  I'll stick by my point on game time though, he'll be the first name on the team sheet here. He's stalled on signing the contract they've offered him so there's a real possibility he's got an eye on something else.

Yep, would be great but agreed probably won't happen. I do think we are getting ourselves in a decent position to be able to form a bit of a relationship with the Mackems though, and signing Embleton (who they've apparently offered a deal to) could jeopordise that.

Anyway, you Grimsby lot will finally come to appreciate Green overall play now, he was unreal at leading the line and spreading out the opposition, he’s not just a decent goal scorer.

That’s all if he’s still got it like.

Jordan Bowery has signed for MK.

Bit random as Crewe fans were hardly gutted he was leaving?

that is a strange one. He was linked with us, probably due to geographical reasons, but I dont think we will lose any sleep over it.

Local radio reporting that we are close to signing a 28-year-old League 2 striker.

:pond:

I was bored so had a quick look on Transfermarkt.

Could be Van Veen from Scunny, Richie Bennett from Carlisle, Jack Redshaw from Salford, Andy Cook from Walsall or Danny Newton from Stevenage.

I'm guessing Newton

Apparently, Argyle are/were after Bennett from Bristol Rovers. Both very similar sort of player. Nobody would sign both.

Carey's gone to CSKA Sofia, incredibly left field. It certainly frees up some wages for us but would rather have kept him.

Devitt sounds decent and would love to see Lowe persuade Danny Mayor down here.

Maynard, O'Shea and the keeper also linked.

Yay. Our chance to play the "lol you've signed a shit player" card.

You will find his fans (lordofthepies being [the] one) but personally not fussed. Well done to him somehow getting a move up but he showed nothing to say he's anything but a bog standard L2 player. Gave us half-decent service but won't live long in the memory.

You're linked to all our players though. Including the ones you have no chance of signing and ones even Kidsgrove would turn down.

Well according to our forum, we're apparently close to Zeli Ismail from Walsall. Not sure that's great if it happens as I'm sure Walsall fans were delighted he's gone.

Also one poster linked us to Dunfermline LB Jackson Longridge. We're in the market for a LB and he's the second one north of the border to be linked after Nathan Ralph was mentioned in the sun.

Also some suggestions of Paudie O'Connor returning on a permanent deal from leeds. I'd love that but I can't believe for a second we're in a position to pay the sort of fee they'd want.

I bought FM2019 recently and the only game i've played is as Dunfermline. I'm in 2023 now so this is going back a few (fake) years but Longridge was a solid enough LB. He has a brother who was a RW IIRC.

Carey gone to Bulgaria. Strange one. Jamie Devitt started following Lowe on Twitter and Lowe is now following back.. positive sign. Danny Mayor also linked.
