The dream for me would be to watch Derby to play in Europe. Not sure what strategy would be best to get that soonest but you don't have to look much further than Birmingham City, won the league cup and had some class European nights.

Now I can't speak for blues fans but I'd be highly surprised if that league cup win/european tour wasn't the best thing they've ever done/experienced as a fan watching their team. Much better than treading water for a few years in the PL surely.

Exactly that will be every Birmingham fans highlight. Not playing the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea in the premiership, god help me if that's what I aspire to see every week. I want to see my team win games of football whatever division I don't care.

Agree beating Man Utd and seeing my team lift a trophy was definetly the highlight for me.
Can see where JJH is coming from though both cups (in particular the League cup or carrabobbar or whatever it's now called) have lost a lost of their sparkle.
Gaining promotion and staying there and actually being able to compete would be fantastic, but without a mega rich owner is highly unlikely in this day and age.
But getting to the Premier League and gaining all the extra cash would also surely give any club more chance of being able to effectively compete in the cups.
Realistically now you need to be in the PL to compete in the cups, we were the last none top flight to win a major trophy and that was 26 years ago.
Sorry JJH and any other who thinks JPT counts, yes a great day out and a trophy but nothing like winning a major trophy.
Interesting argument probably split on over and under 30s age groups.

I agree with you on the JPT, the game I honestly didn't care about but the point still stands - I've seen my team win at Wembley, even if it was effectively a friendly.

It's pretty much already been stated but it all depends on who you support and what you've already seen.

For a big club like Villa, who do have the potential to be challenging for the top 6 in the Premier League and playing regularly in Europe I would say promotion is more important.

For a club like Bristol City/Sheff Utd/Charlton etc, we're never going to play in the Champions League so for me a long cup run and winning a major trophy at Wembley would be far more enjoyable than promotion to the Premier League.

Again, I can see where JJH is coming from. The likes of myself, Kev and Blademan have all seen our teams on a level playing field and playing at Old Trafford, Anfield etc. Most Bristol City fans haven't.
I wouldn't say the novelty of competing at the highest level ever wore off on me, I was gutted when we were relegated in 2007 but as time has gone on, I look at the Premier League and genuinely don't care if we never play in it again.

Accrington vs West Brom and Blackburn vs Burnley are both infinitely better ties, that's ridiculous

No offence to Leicester but its not even a big team in terms of ratings like Everton or dare I say Newcastle would be.

Either do a Prem team vs L2 (potential for giant killing) or a local derby match for TV. They wonder why they get shit ratings for the League Cup when they pick a matches like this.

Stupid eh.

Blackburn vs Burnley is the obvious one. Everyone wants to see it, it's a fierce Derby AND two leagues separate them so there's a chance of an upset. Absolutely everything you want from a cup tie.

You guys should try reading the other thread (premature predictions), then come back and apologize to me. :ffs:

Also Another Walkley Owl I'm from Leamington Spa, which I'd hazard a guess at is a much better area of the country from where you are from...
Think you misunderstood what I meant with that gif...

It's a kind of "this could get interesting" reaction, i'm not taking sides...

Only £10 for adults isn't it? Surely more than 10,000 will turn out for what should be a decent game.
I'm off to Bolton, 1,750 sold up to late Friday which surprised me, was expecting less than 1k travelling.

Yep only a tenner for st holders and £12 for non. There might just be 10k including away fans in the end , i believe they have sold 1700 up to now I'll probably just go down and watch it in the boozer where as if it was away I'd of gone for sure.

Don't think we've even hit 10k home fans for ours, that inbred lot have sold their 5k so I'm expecting the Darwen End to be trashed again.

Not hitting 10k home fans for Blackburn vs Burnley is embarrassing, cup game or not.

Thought you would have sold more, as I assume it is still your biggest rivalry. No joking I have been to Burnley twice, don't think you're kidding about the inbreeding, they really are a strange/special lot, they even make other Lancastrians look "normal"
