Has that ever happened at league level ? If not it should surely? All that money , ego and you don’t pick the team. Gutting ! Loo

He’s pure entertainment since he came in, never dull
It has. Michael Knighton back in the nineties, after sacking Mervyn Day, installed himself as manager and promptly got us relegated.

Whilst in the old Div Three, the late John Reames who was our chairman appointed himself manager and won 25 out of 75 league games and even won manager of the month award :bg:
And more recently than that, albeit not at FL level, we had a Director who managed to find himself in the manager's job for 18 months!

Didn't Chester have an American chairman in the late 90's who took over the team? Or have i made that up.

Terry Smith, former manager of the GB American football team. Highlights included appointing defence, midfield and attacking captains, deploying American football coaching drills, and reciting the Lord's prayer before all games.

Jay Saunders, just sacked at Maidstone is favourite for the Crawley job.

Following Clean Harry’s appointment , Paul Hart to come in as DoF.

Must be the 3rd time/attempt where this has nearly happened with Hart and Notts in this role

The race for the poisoned chalice of managing Crawley stutters into life.

Jay Saunders who managed to keep Maidstone in the conference last season of winning promotion but sacked this season as his recruitment was poor is an early favourite.

The fans on the forums chuck their toys out of the pram at the mere mention of some names (Slade) and reach for tissues at others (John Yems, Simon Rusk) while none of actually know what's going on...to be fair I doubt the club do either as they were not planning on losing Harry Cool. I have my preferences but gawd knows if any will apply.

Just so you know I wouldn't mind John Yems who was chief coach at Bournemouth until the end of last season and who has coached at Crawley before but I'm not going to gnash me teeth if we don't appoint him and I don't believe he is a savour who will lead us to the promised land as some seem to either.

Saunders had a chance of the Macclesfield job I think but turned it down (location possibly?).

He was quite successful at Maidstone but really struggled since they got into the NL.

Paul Hart? :fl:
News to us!
Not sure why someone would go from Assistant Manager in L1 to Director of Football in L2.

It actually wouldn’t surprise me if we brought in Kevin Nolan as Hart’s replacement.

Yep he was offered the Maccy job and was close to taking it, but turned it down because his wife didn't want to move up North.

As for how he's done with us in the National League?? Well he was sacked after only 6 wins in 35 league games. A lot of our fans are annoyed he was let go, but realistically this has been coming for a long time now. Any other club he would of been sacked ages ago.

Jay Saunders; not good enough for the National League but ok for Crawley! :ffs:

Mind you, we got Terry Robins from Maidstone. Best striker I saw for Crawley. Sold him for the princely sum of 8k.

I've already been on Twitter and our forum saying he can't be appointed. Naturally, they should listen to me as the oracle.

Interestingly, the board hope to interview 5 or 6 of the 50 plus (seriously?) applicants this week with a view to an appointment within the next fortnight.

It may sound harsh, but losing yesterday may actually turn out to be a blessing as I think it was Milton's job to lose.

I'm still praying for Gary Bowyer - but that's definitely a dream appointment.

Be very very interesting if Davis got the Cheltenham job with us playing Cheltenham in a fortnight. I wasn't going but if that shithouse gets the job I may well have to make an appearance!

If you appoint Davis, a man who is currently winless in his last 15 league matches as a manager (n the league below might I add) then that'll be your Paul Buckle moment all over again.

I can't see us appointing him - but then we have no experience on the board anymore, so they could be bought by bright lights and pretty colours.

As it's my middle child's birthday, and party, I shan't be at the Crewe game, which means if he is appointed I won't have to listen to Crewe fans in the pub telling me just how poor he is (a la Luton fans after we appointed Buckle - to a man they were bang on by the way).

The betting companies have closed their markets, and interviews were carried out yesterday with 5/6 candidates.

Hoping for an announcement today - Mickey Duff still the favourite.

Ah, the old Chester City, the most tinpot team there has ever been. Miss them.
