Since the promotion and relegation threads are both up and running, the real important thread, for real League Two teams with no plans to leave it should be up too.

Normally the other two CUFCs are involved, but with Colchester having the temerity to think they can go up and Cambridge unsure if they want to be a league team at all, it's been left to us. We must be clear favourites for this, as I can't yet think of anyone else who has made such a clear statement of intent as us with such determined mediocrity, Stevenage have come close but had a cheeky little flirt with the promotion places earlier on which tars their record somewhat. Only really Swindon can hold a light to our level of inconsistency. Oldham's name seems to be cropping up in the promotion thread instead; Grimsby, Vale and Northampton have all gotten over early season wobbles and now look like they could make mid-table their own.

We are mega average this season all be it partially not helped by negative tactics and the strange disappearance of some players such as Worrall, Gibbons, Kanu and Miller.

We haven’t lost much, twice I think since the Lincoln hammering in mid October (3 losses in 14 games inc cup) but have drawn a few too many to really push up the table.

I said I’d accept mid table and signs of progression with so much mess so this won’t be a disaster but must be built on next season.

January in recent years has often seen us weaker, relegated after flogging Grant and Alnwick and the loss of Alex Jones two years back and then last season losing Anderson didn’t help.

This January we may lose loanee left back Clarke as Villa are rumoured to be wanting him in their side and he’s been class.

That said we may actually be spending some real cash this January, Pope signed a new two year deal Friday which is a massive boost although always likely being a Vale fan himself. We’ve also had a six figure bid accepted for Glenavon attacking midfielder Sykes and NI U21 and offered terms but with Blackburn and Hibs monitoring him it remains to be seen if he will accept or wait and see what else comes in.

Either way we look set for this thread which after the past two seasons is a relief.

Elsewhere Grimsby with their home form, Oldham, Northampton and Carlisle look set for this.

After 5 points from our first 10 games I didn’t expect to be included in this thread by Christmas, mid table obscurity here we come! :woo:

Aye after the first 10 games we have been a typical mid table side even going as far as winning at home and losing away just to make it easy on people who bet.

I think we have the potential to pop up in the promotion thread but I think realistically this is where we’ll be,especially if we don’t keep Surridge beyond Jan. Having said that there’s probably about 10 other teams who are no better or worse than us who will be saying the exact same thing.

Is 8th the winner or are we saying the first team that can’t go up or down?

After winning it last year, it's good to see we're making a late bid to enter this.

You had to share this most prestigious honour with Stevenage IIRC, but I think it was then decided that you were the winners only because the ref in the Boro match decided to give something like 10 mins of added time, so you were the first ones over the line so to speak!

10 minutes, that'll be Dino 'Westley II' Maamria?

Haha. Curiosity got the better of me and I had to check last season's mid table thread to see who they were playing and, more importantly, the date they came so close to winning it. It was on 14/4/18 and surprise surprise my lot provided the opposition that day!

ps - I may have gone a tad OTT with my 10 min added time claim! T'was only 5 mins apparently :emb:

We've been here since our decent run in December with no intention if giving it up. Any minor hope of the play offs was quickly snuffed out yesterday.

To be fair, mid table aspirations at start of season with a budget to match, after last season most of us would be happy with this as a rebuilding season and look forward to next to hopefully push on.

If it wasn't for the first 10 games things could have played out differently but hopefully no similar start next year.

Yep, hello all. As predicted, we are definitely in here this season. Such excitement.
Early thoughts on Scholes? Has he changed anything?

First time I have been confident enough to wave goodbye to the Relly thread and post on here.
How is the top position determined or don't I need to worry myself about it?

Mid-table winners are the first to mathematically not be able to get promoted or relegated. Cheltenham, recent winners I believe, look best positioned at the moment, but Northampton are well placed and a couple of defeats would aid their quest for the ultimate trophy of mediocrity.

As we normally lose 3 or 4 games in a row and we lost Saturday, this title could well be ours in a few weeks.

I posted similar on another thread but it’s far too early to tell. Early signs admittedly aren’t great but he’s taken over a poor side with well-reported off-field distractions. Happy for him to see this season out seeing which players (doubt there will be too many) he wants to keep and which he wants to get rid of in summer. Give him a full pre-season and the chance to sign his own players and then judge him. Think most fans just want to end this season on a positive note and are already thinking ahead to next.
