Just got back.

Delighted we're up, didn't have much hope considering Mansfield just needed the draw so that early goal was a big boost.

Thought we weren't particularly decent apart from a few spells, but we didn't need to be as Mansfield were poor and weren't playing like a side desperate to win. Two nervy sides, but the deserved result in the end.

Anyway..

Disappointed that the day ended on a bit of a downer due to the disgraceful behaviour by pockets of Mansfield fans....

1. A group of five Mansfield fans throw two traffic cones at an MK supporter's car. Completely unprovoked, they just saw he had an MK scarf hanging up in the rear window. Another 4-5 Mansfield supporters come off one of the supporter coaches and start surrounding the guy's car, standing in front of it intimidating the driver.

2. I was driving out, some idiots in Mansfield shirts standing in the middle of a zebra crossing singing and not moving out the way. I wound my window down and shouted at them to move, both come over to my window ask "are you a plastic?!" before one leaned in and tried to pull my car keys out.

I know it doesn't reflect on all Mansfield fans, but that was three separate groups all acting like pricks, completely unprovoked behaviour. Worst fans I've ever encountered.

Oh well, League One football next season for us. Hope Mansfield get battered in the playoffs.

That’s so sad and makes the day even worse, especially considering it’s gunna be a bunch of pissed up blokes here for the ‘big away game’ only.

Spoke to plenty MK before and after who were all decent but that’s how it goes with personal experiences.

It’s sad it happened.

However, there were 4 MK fans who tripped over a young mansfield girl outside the away end.

The way they ran onto the pitch looking for trouble was a tad daft.

That’s just all I saw. There was as much bother from MK fans as there were mansfield.

Enjoy your promotion

Agreed.

There’s always going to be fans out for the big day, but for both sides also

This is obviously gutting but it has been in the making for several months. Was very impressed by MK's facilities, probably my favourite ground so far.

Where do we go from here in getting this team up a league? I can't see us beating Newport and we have proper bottled it again.

In a 5-3-2 formation, the team we have should be good enough to go up a league, but we are just not playing well and don't deserve it.

Did you stick around after the final whistle at all because there was lots of fighting and I was able to see from a distance quite a lot of punches thrown.

Sorry to hear you've had a bad experience of Mansfield fans. You would like to think that as long as you avoid the idiots and show no interest they'd leave you alone. Hopefully some of those are the once a year folk whose faces you never seem to recognise.

I didn't see any fighting in the ground, apart from a few scuffles between the police/stewards and the 50 or so Mansfield fans determined to get on the pitch for no other reason than to confront the MK supporters enjoying their promotion. Didn't see any punches thrown though, but don't doubt it. I guess some of our own supporters didn't help the situation when they started goading them, but every club has it's own idiots.

Will say, the 5k Mansfield fans were very loud at times, especially when they had a corner down that end.

Well done to MK. The best side we've played this season.

Commiserations to Mansfield, but there's a second chance there. Will be difficult to get going again after today and Newport's not exactly an easy test because of how they play and their record at Dave Parade.

Can I just add that the closure of the two blocks behind the goal did look like a tactical move to subdue the fans, considering the blocks to the side of the net in the lower had fans in them!

MK fans goading the Mansfield fans didn’t help the situation. Instead of enjoying your promotion, your fans decided to run straight to the away end.

I was there.

Home fans were always going to be involved in a pitch invasion at the full time whistle - as would any other club celebrating promotion at home. Mansfield fans had no right or reason to be on the pitch or attempt to be on the pitch.

However..

What wasn't needed was the 100 or so Mansfield fans all gathered before the full time whistle at the bottom of the lower tier waiting to come on to confront MK fans - you can see it in the video on twitter, loads of police/stewards stopping Mansfield fans from running on the pitch. And this was before the full time whistle.

MK fans had a reason to be on the pitch - to celebrate. The only reason those Mansfield fans gathered near the edge of the pitch had was to confront MK fans.

Sure, we had a few idiots in the home end who ran towards the Mansfield fans, but that was only reacting to the 100 Mansfield fans goading them.

If that's not true, whats the explanation for those 100 Mansfield fans all being prevented from entering the pitch by stewards and police even before the full time whistle? I take it it wasn't to give our players hugs.

Not sure you can say for certain who started it tbh. It might be best summarised as two sets of idiots goading, hitting and throwing things at one another. Hopefully police can identify as many as possible as there were lots of police with cameras.

As if.

Do you really think that MK fans running towards ours fans is going to get no reaction.

The scenario was caused and started by MK fans.

Ironic given the kids doing it are about as old as the club they support

I love how ‘a few idiots’ from MK came over to the away end but ‘100 Mansfield’ fans were trying to get into the pitch.

Just enjoy your promotion and stop talking out of your arse.

Yeah it’s completely wrong to try and blame one side from this, I’m hearing various versions of both sets of fans being tits.

Nice touch from our lot cleaning the changing rooms too!

If I change "a few idiots" to "100 MK fans" will it make you feel better? Ok, there were 100 MK fans.

Ask yourself this - why would 100 or so Mansfield fans be waiting to come onto the pitch, five minutes before the final whistle, only being prevented from doing so by the stewards and police? Don't believe me then watch the highlights later or footage from the match again and look at the lower tier corner where Mansfield fans are - 100 (approx) Mansfield fans all looking for confrontation. What reason would Mansfield fans have for waiting to go on the pitch five minutes before full time if they weren't getting promoted? Obviously to goad and confront our own fans.

Not saying our fans didn't react badly themselves, but the footage speaks for itself when you watch it back.

First sensible post about this from a Mansfield fan instead of wrongly putting all the blame on home fans.

I'm not denying a number of MK fans were also in the wrong for how they reacted. The reason I'm posting about it is Mansfield fans suggesting MK fans were 100% to blame, which is absolutely not true for the reasons I mentioned in my last post.

Let's just accept both fans had a minority of fans that acted like idiots and shouldn't have behaved how they did.

Knowing that something would happen is a small part of the reason I stayed stood by my seat just drinking in the emotion of the day. I was on the pitch against Yeovil so this time I just wanted to take a step back and enjoy it.

Fair play to Mansfield fans, I couldn’t really hear you in the first half, the acoustics in the ground really are awful though so that’s not surprising. Second half you were decent though, and if the footballing gods have any mercy then you’ll be up with us as you’ve easily been one of the best 4 teams in the league all season.

Look, it was a few young people from both sides getting excited. Let’s not go down the childish route.

Mansfield didn’t go up as flitcroft did what flitcroft does and he bottled it.

Lincoln bury MK and Mansfield were all as bad as each other and somehow we’ve came out the worst.

I wish the very best to Lincoln bury and MK and their fans for league 1 next season and hope we can join you - which we won’t as flitcroft will once again bottle it

Again - talking rubbish.

I only posted back because of your original post indicating you hope we get battered due to the behaviour of our fans. You clearly have changed your tune to indicate that both sets of fans were out of order at the end. That is something we agree on!

Agree with all that.

Credit to Mansfield fans for bringing over 5,000 fans which is incredible for any level of football in this country. Very loud at times and will definitely be an advantage to the team in the playoffs.

Yes I said that because of what happened outside the stadium with the Mansfield fans throwing stuff at one of our supporter's cars completely unprovoked and then another Mansfield fan trying to take the keys out of my car just because he didn't like the sound of my accent (i.e. I sounded like I was from MK rather than Mansfield). Never had any issues like that in 14 years of regularly watching games home and away.

If I've had a bad experience like that, ofcourse I'm not going to wish your team well as I'll associate that experience with Mansfield now. I'm sure you would do the same if you had a bad experience.

Anyway, we're all realising we're adults and agreed the stuff inside the stadium was groups of idiots from both sides. Plus, I'm celebrating and on the beers so probably going on a bit now.

I don’t know if the fans will turn up for the play-offs, we will definitely need a result at Newport first.

A lot have turned on the manager, and to a lesser extent the players.

Losing 3 in a row during a promotion push will also impact the players for the play offs.

The hardcore will be down there at Newport on Thursday - I can’t go as in Edinburgh with work for instance - folk can’t just drop plans to go to the other side of the country with 5 days notice - whereas I’d expect Newport to sell out at our place on sunday.

I’ve not turned on the manager, but he does choke when push comes to shove.

That’s completely understandable - I only started posting after you made out inside the stadium was just the stags fans being idiots. Why some of the MK fans came over and started throwing punches baffled me, I would have been just enjoying my promotion.

What happened outside of the stadium hopefully has been caught on camera for the police to deal with.

Away from all that rubbish - MK deserved to win, we were terrible and played long ball for some bizarre reason.

Newport definitely the more favourable option in the playoffs though. If we had ended up in the playoffs I was hoping it was them or FGR. If Mansfield turn up, I think they'll be far too much for Newport (despite their run of form). Would be very apprehensive if it was against Tranmere in the semis.
