You got PL team Luke? I had a soft spot for Coventry, but I can't remember any of their names it was that long ago.

Dion Dublin pal. Bigger than your club. Also inspired my username.

My apologies, I thought he was a musician or property developer.
Nope. Premier League top goalscorer 1997/98. That alone is bigger than Lincoln and any other club in this league.

Micky Adams by a very long way. 51 players used, top 7 budget, dwindled fan base, corruption amongst squad, players turning up hungover and of course relegated us into the abyss of non league.

Once upon a blue moon maybe. The fact he decided to leave the sinking ship wirh a handful of games remaining speaks volumes about his character too.

Nope. He’d walk into any top L1 or L2 job. His CV speaks for itself

He was moved on by Sligo Rovers. He is the worst manager we have ever had.

Martin Allen is probably still public enemy number 1 at Cheltenham, came in with a huge fanfare and basically took us to the brink of non-league and administration. Walked around town with a billy big-bollocks attitude and pissed off the clubs biggest shareholder to such an extent that he resigned from the board.

Pushing him very close though is Paul Buckle. An absolute disaster of an appointment. Again, came in with an attitude of thinking he was bigger than the club, and seemed to have a bloke in tow who called himself the chief scout but used to spend the whole time at Buckle's side (his name escapes me now). He came in, alienated players, and won 1 solitary game in his spell in charge. The club was in an ok place when he took over albeit we were struggling for wins but just needed some tweaks - by the time he left we were in absolute turmoil and spiralling out of the league. The job that Gary Johnson did in the summer of 2015 really shouldn't be under-estimated after the mess Buckle left us in - he kept on two players from the 14/15 season (one of which was loaned out in Jan 16) and managed to win the Conference at a canter.

Who is the most hated individual ever to be associated with you're club, be it a dodgy owner, a player who left for a rival, a player who was just not arsed, a manager who was utter dross and so on.

Obviously we have the vile Bennall at the top of our list, but removing that scumbag and listing somebody on purely footballing/business terms then it's a toss up between current majority shareholder Norman Hassall and ex manager Steve Davis.

Hassall has sucked the club dry and held us back, we should be a competitive league one outfit or acting like one, not a club looking over our shoulder at non-league. The sooner he is bought out the better.

Davis had it all, promotion winning side, cup winning side, but his arrogance and ego destroyed it all. Admittedly, he wasn't helped by the above mentioned Hassall, but Davis conspired to make us bland, negative, we tried to be defensive when we couldn't defend, he made the club stale and heading in one downward direction, he got rid of promising players when they should have stayed and earned the cous decent transfer fees, he got rid of solid pro's a year too early to promote his own sons career, yet he was ready to jump at any given moment for another job, but when it all blew up, instead of doing the decent thing and walking he held on just to screw money out the club, the club that was being held to ransom by Hassall.

Just as a side note, Garry Cliffe is an ex Manchester City trainee who was unfourtunalty abused by that scumbag Bennall. Yet Cliffe only ever talks about Crewe Alexandra's role in this, which is odd seeing as he was never at Crewe. Guess who Gary Cliffe's brother in law is?

I'd never say I hate Davis, although I wish he'd left at least 2 years earlier than he did. Hard to look past Hassall and Bennell really...

Bennell was before my time but he's public enemy #1 followed deservedly by Hassall.

Fans are mixed on Davis but I despise the cretin. Crap management I can forgive after the sacking like I did with Holland and Gudjon, but openly alienating fans with arrogance, bullying players and horrific interviews on his part mean he'll never be looked at fondly by myself. The day when he was sacked was a fine day indeed, felt like we were liberated from all his bullshit and thankfully so.

Neil Warnock for turning up to the Sheffield United home game in a Sheffield United tie!

Neil Warnock for clapping one of Bolton’s goals as as lost 4-0 and then saying in the post match interview “he didn’t realise it was a derby”.

Alan Knill was a good manager but the way he left the club (joined Scunthorpe with 6 games left of the season when we were 3rd) left a bitter taste. Think hate is too strong a word for Knill... we went up without him and he lost his first Scunthorpe game 6-0. Then the two sides met in L1 the following season (2011/12), we won 3-1 but Scunthorpe took the lead and he ran down the touch line to the Bury fans to celebrate.

Other people that could have got in but since redeemed themselves are Tom Kennedy and Nicky Adams. Both Bury youth products that left us to join Rochdale, both scored against us at some point for Dale and antagonised the Bury support. Especially Tom Kennedy who decided to celebrate his goal by running the whole length of the stand with his hand cupped on his ear.

Seen here at 3 minutes:

Both Adams and Kennedy went on to play for us again, Kennedy must have felt a bit awkward.
Talking of ear cupping Paul Hurst even did that to our fans at Wembley after we’d just scored the clincher in injury time.

Alan Smith who took over from Martin O'Neil in 1995 and quickly tore apart a brilliant side that won promotion to The Football League in 1993 and promotion in 1994,he must be our most hated ex manager and we had Tony Adams ffs!

What because he put Dario in his place... you all cream over Artell who has a similar manner of speak to Micky (all be it usually more derogatory about opponents than Micheal was).

Micky was a great manager for us to be fair, in terms of his character he stuck with us through administration and the mess around it, even helping out so we could never really question that. Turned us around from a similar position we are in now into a top ten league one outfit (would have done it quicker has his beloved Blades not come calling when we were flying to auto's in 2010-11).

He assisted after Brown went to appoint a new boss, him breaking down after taking us up will long live in the memory and that superb 2013 side playing some of the most entertaining football I have seen us play...

Aside from Rudge, the best manager we've had since the 50's legends.

Smashing promotion rivals 7-1, 6-2 that year... I yearn for the Adams days. Was surprised he didn't keep Tranmere up tbh.

I think Micky Adams would top the list of virtually every Tranmere supporter. He came in as the 'safe pair of hands' but left having deprived us of our league status.

He did reasonably well until Palios gave him transfer funds in the January 2015 window. He then went on a spending spree bringing in utter dross, mostly in old pals acts, while sidelining a lot of the younger players who were treated disgracefully. We used 47 first team players that season. Adams admitted in his biography that by the time he got to Rovers he could not be bothered turning up for training in the morning.

A close second is John Barnes. Actually a reasonable guy, but he turned us into a laughing stock in his short tenure and did a lot of damage. He tried to play total football with a mediocre League One squad and the performances under him are the worst I have ever seen from a professional football team.

Fortunately those days are behind us.......

I agree entirely about Adams . What a total waste of skin that man is. As for Barnes the thing that annoys me more than anything about his reign of terror was that a decent manager Ronnie Moore was sacked for failing to get into the Play offs by one point to make way for him. Also he has played, as he always seems to do, the racist card about his dismissal from Prenton Park. The fact he didn`t have a clue about what he was doing as regards to player recruitment, tactics seemed to fade into insignificance and he was not given enough time due to his colour. Totally deluded idiot

Difference was, Ronnie Moore had the 5th highest budget in the league and finished 7th. Barnes had the 3rd lowest. Peter Johnson withdrew most of his funding that season, wage bill was slashed from 1.9m to 950k.

Micky Adams on the other hand had a large league two budget and the license to sign anyone, as seen by the 51 player turnover.

Russel King, we are in the very long queue to string him!

Russell King was the best thing to happen to Notts took a club that was dying being killed by clueless fans with egos clinging to power and petty point scoring and won us the league and made national news. Regardless if it was a con or not I had one of my best years following Notts and I'll always be greatful for that.

Ray Trew was dire for Notts County. I'm sure that Chesterfield fans will agree Guy Branston can do untold damage.

While it is true that the budget was slashed when Barnes took over, our physio still managed to keep us in League One for two seasons with similar money. Barnes was completely ill-suited to managing in the lower divisions. He didn't have a clue.
