Computer's fucked. Got it 10 months ago, barely used it the last 5 months but I did play FM 17 on it and was getting about 140fps, turned it back
on for FM 18 did all the updates for windows and shit and it barely runs at 5fps and is completely unresponsive.

Any ideas why?

Sounds like it's running with friction. Undo the tower and grease the components with Vaseline. Should sort it out.

We talking Windows, what version?

Does the fps drop only on the 3d match engine and all work fine otherwise crunching results, or does FM just generally run crap? Notice any other problems aside from FM?

Windows 10 mate, everything else on my computer is fine apart from FM. I factory reset it last night and it still changed nothing, I updated all the drivers today still nothing other than 5fps, not just in the game engine but the actual game. It's so so laggy.

If it generally runs rubbish maybe you need to run a smaller database size for your games? Although that seems excessively bad for a simple db size / computer spec issue.

Could be over zealous anti virus interfering with it, you running any?

I've known graphics drivers cause massive problems with the 3d match engine specifically, but sounds like that's not it here.

A quick Google on 'FM18 speed' suggests it's generally been received by people as being slower than 17. Haven't played 18 myself yet so can't really comment.

Tried the smallest database and graphic settings and still getting about 5 frames which is ridiculous. Turned off antivirus still brought no results. It's doing my head in mate.

Seems particular Windows 10 updates (the creator updates) introduce some xbox crap which can cause fps issues in a variety of games:

Otherwise, I'm all out, beyond a format and fresh install of windows.
Seems that may be it. What's the best way of solving that? I've no idea how to uninstall then reinstall windows.

Simplest bit is

"To disable the Game DVR in the Xbox app to fix Windows 10 game lagging and lower FPS malfunction after Creators Update, below is how.

1. Click the Start button, and then type Xbox to open it.

2. Go to Settings -> Game DVR.

3. Ensure the “Take screenshots using Game DVR” selection is “Off”."

Reboot.

If that doesnt work there's a few other possibilities on those links short of the nuclear option of reinstalling windows, so check them out.
